I find regional foods interesting as well. I have not heard the term 'field peas.' Is this a dried pea? Ham hocks, interesting. Can't say I know anyone who cooks with those either. :lmao: I understand it gives a good flavor to food. Since I don't eat pigs, I buy turkey ham. I know, I know, not nearly as tastey. The past month, I have not been able to find it at Walmart or my local grocery store. It was always easy to purchase in the past. If I don't find it soon, I'm going to ask in the meat department.

I LOVE mac and cheese. Do you make a white sauce of flour, butter and milk then add grated cheese to melt?

Field peas are a dried pea. And this is the one and only time of year I use ham hocks. Walmart is changing a lot of the things that they have sold in the past. I really don't like it. I have had to start grocery shopping at a regular grocery store again.

I don't use a white sause in my mac in cheese. I just use a mixture of cheeses and a little butter and then add milk until its just starting to peak through the top. Then I bake it in a very hot oven until it is starting to brown on top. My hubby loves that bubbly crust. Sometimes I put bread crumbs on the top. Do you use the white sauce? That sounds good. :thumbsup2 All this talk about food.......I really only cook really fatening stuff at the holidays. But we just can't get completely away from good ole southern cooking.

Yes, I make a sauce 1st. It's a pain in the butt to have to stand there and keep stiring. I melt a stick of butter (I use the term butter, but I use margerine) and stir in 1/4 cup flour. Then gradually add 2 cups milk and cook until thickened/bubbley. This is where it's a pain to keep stiring. Then I add a block of shredded Cracker Barrel. When melted I mix with pasta and bake. On special occasions like Xmas, I put a container of Frenches Fried Onions on top. Pretty fattening and more expensive topping so I don't use it often. So you mix the shredded cheese with the pasta without melting it? Then pour the milk in? I've heard of people doing it that way. That would be much easier. You must have to use more cheese that way.
*You could use less butter if desired.*

I noticed that! This morning could barely read your location because it was light pink. Now, your whole tag section is scrolling rather than just part of it. If the tag fairy has that much time, maybe they can give some of our still tagless babnanas little something for the new year.

...one could only HOPE....

...technically, aren't ALL peas 'field' peas??? :rolleyes1

That's probably why I have never heard of the term :rotfl2: only things like peas, green peas, garden peas or dried peas. The 'field' part made we wonder if it was something different.

Mmmmmm, all that cheese talk, I had to make myself grilled cheese.

Mmmmmm, I have been thinking about french toast lately too. YUM

Gee thanks, now I'm craving one. :rotfl:

It was delicious. ;) Of course, I was starting to shake and feel sick from not eating enough while drinking coffee so it could have tasted like crap and I wouldn't have noticed.

....uhhhhhh, yum....

Heavy snow starting later today and much of tomorrow. They are predicting over a foot maybe close to 2 feet with heavy winds tonight.

...why??? That's worse than "Poo just goes with the territory"??

I don't think ANY thing is worse than "Poo just goes with the territory!"....:rotfl2:It's a perfect tag, though....taken IN context, it made perfect sense. Take it OUT of context, put it in a nice purple color under my user name, and voila!...it sounds ridiculous and gives the Tag Fairy something to do!!:lmao:

.

I went to Barnes & Noble this morning for some "me" time....

And went to the cafe for a Starbucks Gingerbread Latte!....:banana:

While reading my brand new copy of the 2010 "PassPorter's Walt Disney World" guide!!:banana::banana:

Happy New Year, Babnanas!

May you all be blessed in the coming year. I have a good feeling about 2010. :thumbsup2

I'm doing well, even if I am flat out exhausted and would nap every day if I could. It's the getting up constantly in the middle of the night that's grating on me and I would give about anything right now for some uninterrupted sleep. :lmao:

On the whole restaurant discussion, I know it's not a signature, but I had an amazing meal at The Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club. I ate there with a large party, the service was excellent, and there really was something on the menu for everyone.

LegoMom, I'm sorry about the Chinese food. Being pregnant, I never know what this kiddo is going to like. There are so many foods/drinks that I can't stand that were previously my favorites. Thank God, however, that the bean let me have Chinese food on New Years without incident. I had my favorite, Moo Shu Pork. Fantastic. And I'm DED over the beef comment. Yes, Virginia, you live in Texas. ;)

Aw, it's just practice for those new-born days, remember?!...:rotfl2:

Oh. My. Word. You just channeled some major Zzub there for a minute! I so miss his presence in these parts....:sad2: He stopped his blog, too. Rats.

Glad you and the Lil' Bean are faring well, if tired! Happy New Year to the TK Pirates clan!
