hey everyone! We're back from the trip. I'll be working on the tr as soon as possible. I couldn't figure out why i was so tired and sick the whole time. Turns out i have mono! :faint: Darn it!

get well soon!

You're going to run out of cheeks soon. You only have four, 2 on your bottom and 2 on your face.

Driving DD home from play practice I told her that I couldn't believe that she wanted a boy to stay the night. I found out on Friday, whilst at the PA Farm Show, that this boy liked her and asked her to go steady, but, she kept saying "no". Well, I asked her if they were boyfriend/girlfriend and she said they were and that she didn't want anyone to know. :sad2:

This may shock some of you. It's very common as OLDER teens that boy friend/girl friend stay at each others houses over night now. It was surprising to me that it was the norm.

...yes. Shocking.

...once again "...turn the other cheek...".....;)

How many cheeks do you have? ;)

I went to a "discovery night" at a potential middle school for DD. It was originally our second choice but now it's hard to tell. We now have to do the discovery night for the other choice. Tonights school is a gifted magnet program. I was worried it would be too stressful on DD but she really loves the idea of being with other kids like her. Plus, they have a robotics/technology elective. For me, I like that she'll actually be challenged. Normally, she's done with her work early and sits around waiting which gives her time to get in trouble. But the downside is she gets one elective. So no chance for learning an instrument, taking drama, or art class.

...hey, I just hit 42K posts.....I GUESS that's kinda exciting...:confused3

...disgraceful...

She used to think I was ridiculous b/c I didn't want her boyfriend to spend the night when she was 16. I would say something like it's not like you are a Senior in High School going away to college in a few months. Little did I know she would just sleep at a friends house and the parents would invite her boyfriend to stay there. Like 3 couples would stay at one persons house. Surprisingly she told me about it not long afterwards. Then when she became a Senior she reminded me what I had said about "it's not like you are a Senior" Be careful what you say to your teens. :rotfl2:

Well I am in the process of making arrangements to get my first "flock" of chickens!!:yay: I'm so excited! There's a rooster and two hens, about 6 months old and the hens are just starting to lay. Can't wait for farm-fresh eggs. These are Light Brahmas, and look like this guy:

I will take some pics when they're here and settled into their new coop.

I'm so excited....!:goodvibes

Are these public middle schools? There is no choice for public school around here. You attend your town's school. They are required to have a gifted and talented progam. I don't know much about them as my kids were not involved. Good luck with your decision.

He's pretty....or should I say handsome?

It won't be the norm in this house. I sleep very little as is and I don't need to lay awake all night to make sure the boy doesn't try to sneak up to DD's bedroom. Or to try to stake out my place to rob later on.

That's odd that there's not more elective choices. Although I guess these magnets tend to focus on a particular academic area, right? Well I hope you guys get the one you want! Is she excited about all this? We are actually looking into a nearby school for DS13 next year. He has expressed that he might want to explore that possibility, so we've contacted the school and just need to set up a day to come meet them and tour the place. Now, this is NOT the school we are "zoned" for, but apparently it's one where quite a few students come from other areas and you can request enrollment there if your zoned district is failing (ours is). It's a small ISD, with a K-6 elementary and a 7-12 high school. Academically it excels. We would have to provide transportation but it's not too far away so that's ok. So, we'll see how it goes!

In our area, the local school method tends to be racially & financially unbalanced. To try to integrate more, they created "magnet" schools in the poorer neighborhoods. Some of these schools focus on the arts, math, science, or gifted. It's a big convoluted mess. But I really don't like the school we are zoned for, so we have to find a magnet. I have no clue why they can't just make all the schools good so kids can go to their neighborhood school with other kids who live near them. But this area has yet to figure that out.

This magnet doesn't focus on one area (the other we like does). It's all gifted classes, so starting in 7th, they start earning high school credit for some classes.

That's great about possibly finding a good school for your son. Maybe that'll get him out of his funk. I guess he does want to be social, but on his own terms.

Thanks.

Yes, she made it home. The roads were terrible and someone went off the road not far from my house. She didn't stop b/c they already had a cop with them. We took her back to college that evening.

It's been snowing for a few days. Today was a snow day.

Glad to hear she got home okay. :goodvibes

Well, that sounds like it could be a really nice option, if she doesn't mind losing the arts, so to speak.
