Tagless Dis'ers / Formerly Tagless Dis'ers UNITE! - Part II

Afternoon everyone. I went grocery shopping today and I needed cooking oil. I always buy the large bottle of Crisco. It is usually $5.00-$6.00. Today it is almost $10.00 :scared1: WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?

I'm getting things ready to apply for food stamps. I work for a school district and don't have a summer job yet. :scared1: Hopefully Wegman's supermarket or Target will hire me soon. I really don't want to do Sheetz gas station or McDonald's. I'm too old for those.

Hey!

Then we stopped at Walmart for a few items. Somehow I came out of that store with each boy in possession of a new cap gun.... They are outside now playing sheriff/cowboy/outlaw!

And lest you all forever dump me into the "music geek" category, let it be known that my kids and I were rockin' out to the Beatles on the ride home!!:hyper:

.

They must so cute watching them play.

OMG, husband and I are HUGE Beatles fans. Love them. I certainly wouldn't consider you a geek for singing along to them. Hmmmm, unless I am a geek too and didn't even know it. :rotfl:

I should start a new thread with that title.... Better yet, a TV show! There was Stupid Pet Tricks, why not Stupid Neighbor Tricks!?

So do any of you have stupid neighbors?

Here's mine: as most of you know, we live in a heavily wooded, rural area. Black bears are as common here as pigeons in a city park. When spring arrives and they start to come out of hibernation, you take your bird feeders in. Period.

Except the lady behind us.

She insists on leaving her feeders out year-round (never mind she's honestly convinced they will not survive without her feeders...). So guess what!....she gets bears in her yard on a fairly regular basis!

Her "solution" to this "problem"???.....give a few ear-splitting blasts on a stadium air horn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, here is a little background on this woman (she's in her 70s, FWIW). The air horn thing started about 2 years ago (she's lived here for 4). When she blew it one night at 9:45pm and woke my kids up screaming in terror, I blew my top and called the police.

That obviously put the final nail in the coffin of our dying relationship. I didn't care, I'd had enough of this carp.

We didn't speak after that, but long story short, fast forward to March of '07. She's leaving her husband who's been beating her up. He's left the house until she moves out, he has to have a police escort to pick up his mail/paycheck once a week, has a restraining order, yadda yadda yadda. So being the good people we are, we offer her any help we can. She's desitute at this point, and heading down to MA to stay with family for a bit. We rented the U-Haul truck for her and paid for it with our own money when we really didn't have it to spare, because it was the right thing to do and we are generally pretty caring people. We even got a group of guys from our church to volunteer a morning to help load the truck and move it.

We stayed in touch for a bit through last summer, but eventually I lost her number, she hadn't been calling here, and at that point we were about to put the house on the market so it was crazy here.

Last September, I watched in utter disbelief as she moved back in with him....

Well, whatever...you made your bed, you lie in it.

So I sat back to wait and see what she had to say, what had happened, or at least "thanks for all your efforts last spring but I just couldn't make it on my own...." Something. ANY thing.

She has not ONCE, in the last nine months, said ONE word to me. She actually started to avoid me once she knew that I knew she was back. I'm sure she was embarrassed or whatever, but her silence and now her recent actions show just total disregard for everything we did for her.

And now, she's blowing the air horn at bears again....

I think the next time I hear it, I'm going out to the backyard and yell to her that I am NOT about to put up with that again, and that that's the last time she's going to hear from me about it, and if I ever hear it again she'll be hearing from the chief of police (it helps to live in a small town and have the police chief married to your kids' school principal!!...:rotfl: ).

Ugh, sorry for the vent but this lady IS just plain crazy. I'm trying to come up with some way of initiating contact with her without being downright nasty (which I'm inclined to....:stir: ) .....

No, the geek factor was in reference to me being perhaps the sole country music fan on this thread!! NO way there's anything geeky about the Beatles!!

Ah, that makes more sence.:lmao: There was someone else who liked country, but I can't remember who.

Good luck with your neighbor. As you know, bad neighbors can make things very unpleasant.

Hey LegoMom!! Good morning and happy Thursday to you too!!

I suppose I need to get ready to go clean my brothers apt. He wants it done so he can be completely out of there by this weekend. He is living in his house, but still has a few things in his apt and it needs to be cleaned. He doesn't want to pay for 2 places for very long. Can't blame him there. The dust is going to kill me; I will pay for it tonight and tomorrow. I will be sure to take decongestant before I go.

You are one good sister. It's times like this I'm glad I'm an only child. ;)

LEGOMOM - I feel your pain about bad neighbors. We have an old lady that lived across the street from us. When we first moved in, she was nice. But she kept walking her dog on our lawn and leaving presents. There's a nice easement people can walk their dogs on right behind her house, but she chose to walk her dog in our yards. She'd actually let the leash go so far as our front step. DH and I both asked her nicely to not walk her dog on our lawn because our DD stepped in one of the doggie piles. She got all upset and said another dog must have done that. Granted, other dogs could have done that, but we still asked for her not to walk her dog on our lawn. After that, she took every chance she thought we weren't looking to walk her dog on our lawn. Then she took old garbage can lids and lined the street by her house so no one visiting my house could park there. It looked like we were living across from Sanford and Sons. She had health problems and was forced to move out. But she refuses to sell, so her house is sitting there abandoned for almost a year now. Her kids stop by to clean up every two months. Which means the house is more of an eyesore than before. I hope when I get old I don't get cranky and crazy.

Is your brother going to help you? Hopefully things will go more quickly than you expected. :goodvibes

I'm really sorry you are having to deal with that. Hopefully she will decide to sell the house before things get to bad. To me, an empty house is a sad house.

The only crazy neighbors we have had is where we live now. They like to get together and have cookouts. And they expect us to come!! :scared1: Can you believe that. :scared1: :lmao: And guess what is on the menu for the next cookout? You guessed it!! :lmao:

Now that's the kind of crazy I can get into. We do have some partying neighbors next to us. The guy is a liquor sales person so they have some good parties. Anytime we have people over, he walks over with a bottle of something. :drinking1

I just feel blessed to have good neighbors out here. There are only 7 families in our little commuity. We are a little isolated out here and it is good to know that we could call on any of them at any time. :goodvibes

I am sadly, sorely behind on this thread. So I'm just going to restart here.

Happy Thursday all!

Yeah, we know where you have been posting. :rotfl2: That's what they all do...get a tag and leave us. ::yes:: But since you said "Happy Thursday" we will forgive you. :rotfl: So welcome back!! You were missed!! :goodvibes

Never! This is my first and favoritest tag fairy thread! I'm partial to all y'all over here. You're such a great group.

Seriously, though, I was like 5 days behind on all my subscriptions. As of this morning my options were catch up or this: :badpc:

I'm glad to be "back" though. Really. The DIS is like a rather strong adult beverage at the end of a rather trying day.

:lovestruc

So, really, everyone doing well? Everyone have a good long weekend?

The BF and I went to Newport (RI) and despite a very good DISer's reminder to wear the sunscreen, guess who forgot?

:wave2:

After 4 hours in the breezy sun, we were all commenting on how it was unbelievable that I might actually be whiter (read: pastier) than when we got there.

Until about 40 minutes after we got home. When I began to get redder by the very minute. Until I looked like this:  Frown and all. We went to bed and I couldn't stop shivering (BF was in rough shape too) and then I got up a few hours later and was physically ill. The BF was worried and wanted to take me to the hospital but I ended up falling back to sleep and woke up in the morning, no longer ill.

Red, however, is an understatment.
As red as my tag.

I couldn't go to work on Tuesday because I couldn't wear anything other than a very loose t-shirt and shorts.

I'm better now and slowly fading into something darker than pure porcelin but let me tell you, I have learned my lesson. Never again will I step outside in less than SPF85 (seriously, Nutrogena makes it), never mind forget the sunscreen altogether. :headache:

Thanks for letting me vent about that. I think being red-tinged has me all uppity this week.

:hyper:

Well first off don't:badpc: These things are to expensive!::yes:: And second...you silly goose. Sounds like you had sun poisioning. And that can be serious. You must, must, must take care of yourself in the sun.
due to our Native Anerican heritage we have olive toned skin. I make everyone wear sunscreen when they go out. Okay Mom rant over. Besides the sunburn it sounds like yo had a good time. :goodvibes

::sigh::

It was foolish. And I KNOW better. I just don't know what the heck I was thinking. :confused3

But I promise I will never make that same mistake again. I'm sure my dermatologist is going to have a mouthful for me when I go see her on the 20th! :worried:
