Morning guys! How's everyone? We have a busy week at camp starting later today....DH will have his plate full! I'm still trying to unpack and get some semblance of organization around here.

Saw a large snake in the pond last night....:scared1: I'm not "afraid" of snakes per se, but since there are more venomous species here than up north, it pays to recognize them and be aware. Can't put a positive ID on this one but not of the question that it's a cottonmouth. DH put the tip of a fishing pole in the water to try to move the algae so we could get a better look at its body, and the thing swung around and went after the pole!! Cottonmouths are known as an aggressive snake. We have harmless water snakes out there, too, but they tend to scoot away pretty quick when they see you. So, DH is going to have his "22" ready for the next time we see this thing....

Now wasn't that a nice story for your Tuesday morning??....:lmao:

TK
, can you post a pic of one of your Mickey tie-die shirts when they're done?? I'm very intrigued!

I'd love to post pictures, hon. I"m very excited about these. I do it a little differently than the instructions on the design board, but I think I have a pretty good technique down. :goodvibes

Very cool!...:thumbsup2 Thanks! I've decided I'm FAR too excited for someone who's trip is still over a year away.....:sad2: But you see?....Disney-wise, this is what I live for!!.....planning the trip!!!:rotfl:

.

Just had the biggest creep-out of my LIFE.....

I'm in the laundry room, putting colored clothes into the washing machine to start a load. As I'm tossing whites aside, I see a leg....:scared: Great, another big spider getting all cozy under the pile of dirty clothes.

I go get DH, telling him he needs to remove said spider from the laundry room. I show him where I last saw "the leg" and he proceeds to pick away one piece of underwear at a time....:rotfl:And don't you know it's not a spider at all.....but a scorpion!!!!!!!!!!!...:crazy2: :faint:

Either someone else starts doing laundry or we're going to be running out of clean clothes very soon!!:rotfl2:

Wow I'm just full of happy stories this morning, aren't I?!

.

Wow.... LegoMom, I was wondering when the :scared1: stories would begin.
In the year and half that we have been here, we have only seen 3 snakes (and remember we have a running creek not far from the house.) 1 rat snake, 1 corn snake and a copperhead. The copperhead didn't live to slither off. :thumbsup2
TK....I'm looking forward to seeing your shirts as well. :goodvibes

Thanks LegoMom for confirming my decision to live in Maine.:scared1::eek:

I am back from OMT and need to be at work for 1pm. The good news is that it helped with draining my sinuses. The bad is the student working on me did something to my neck that was not there before. The right side has a huge knot and the ache goes up that side of my head all the way to the top. What could he have done to me? UGH I guess I should give them a call if it doesn't go away soon.

You can never be far too excited for a Disney trip, no matter how far away it is. :goodvibes

Seriously?

Thanks!

I sort of involved myself in what I thought would be a little cleaning project that then trickled out to other rooms and is now affecting the majority of the apartment.

Don't you just love it when that happens? :rolleyes1

So, hopefully, pictures later. :thumbsup2

Thanks LegoMom for confirming my decision to live in Maine.:scared1::eek:

I second that motion. Another vote for New England. I have to say, I've always wanted to live down south but the critter stories are starting to scare me!

Definitely call if it doesn't go away. I hope you feel better soon.

Hello all. I'm still around, just not posting much. We went to a condo this past weekend for a last Summer trip. I thought it didn't have internet so I left my laptop at home. It did have it, so we kept rotating my friends laptop between all of us. We are not good without our technology.

LegoMom - glad to see you made it safely to Texas. Now, I hope you stay that way. All that nature sounds pretty scary to me. Arm yourself with some Raid.

So DH shot himself a FOUR FOOT Cottonmouth this evening......:scared1::scared1::scared1:

Thing is, this isn't even the same snake we saw last night that we weren't sure of the species. After all this happened, we were out on the dock and SAW the snake from last night! (which turns out to be a harmless Blotched Water Snake....yep, I'm gittin' pretty good at Googling snakes!) So, the monster that he hauled in we didn't even know about.

I have pictures but I'll spare you....

Mean Queen - somehow I don't think a simple can of Raid is going to do me much good in these parts.....:rotfl2:

.

Legomom--ah, the joys of living in the country. You need to get some moth balls PRONTO and lay them around your house. It'll keep the snakes away.

You've made me so happy to be a city girl. I'll take the gators, roaches and lizards of anyday. And thank you for not showing pictures.

Good evening everyone! I hope everyone is well. Sorry to be MIA but things have been pretty hectic here with packing and last minute things for college. I can't believe I go up in two days :scared:

Good morning ya'll. :goodvibes

Mean Queen and See.....so glad you are both okay and BACK!!

LegoMom....As creativeamanda said about the mothballs....I've always heard they work. But they would be poisoness (?) to your new puppy.

LegoMom....ya'll all know how terrified I was when we moved out here. What we do is keep the grass SHORT around our living spaces. (front yard, the fenced in part of the back yard, and around the fence) We also do not have anything stored right around the house that would encourage any creepy critters to hide in. The garage doors do not stay open. (Any of our doors for that matter.) We get whatever is needed and down the doors. If you don't all ready know how to shoot....this might be a good time to learn. Its also a great stress reliever. :thumbsup2 I love spending time at our local range. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

creativeamanda I just don't even know what to say to this. :sad2: Except  to you.

Just for the record, the snake was a Cottonmouth. They're a water snake. Matter of fact all the snakes we've seen have been in the water (and this is not a swimming pond, either). I'm not dealing with them in the yard or near the house (and yes, Smiley, I would worry about mothballs and the puppy...typical baby he puts EVERY thing in his mouth!). And grass??....what's that?:confused3 :rotfl: Srsly, we are in such a drought here that there is no such thing as "tall" grass. If I want a bunch of little green tufts to pop up here and there, I can run the sprinkler for a hour or so, but that's about all I'm gonna get right now until we get some MAJOR rain. And yes, I fully intend to learn how to shoot (I've actually done it before but it's been years). When I get chickens out here I want to be able to defend them if needed!

You go girl!! :thumbsup2 :banana::banana: But don't just learn to shoot it. Learn to take it apart and clean it. The more you learn about your gun, the more you will feel comfortable with it. :)

Our power was out for a short time. Seems that the power company was taking care of a dead tree down the road. They dropped the tree on the lines. :rotfl2: So much for taking care of the tree. :rotfl:

I should also add that we have armadillos. Have you seen what an armadillo does to a yard??.... Nope...no "lawn" here!:rotfl:

Armadillos.......hummmmmm :rotfl: The only armadillos I have seen are the ones that are on the side of the road on our way to FL. :sad2: So tell me about them. Are they like raccoons or opossums with shells? :rotfl::confused3 Are they approachable? Or is it better to keep your distance? And one more......Do they help keep rodents and creepy crawlies at bay?

I would liken them more to an opossum with a shell. Racoons can be nasty and these are not. I've never deliberately tried to approach one, but when we've been outside and seen them, they don't make any move to get away. Actually, I'm not sure they pay too much mind to their surroundings at all....hence all the roadkills you see!

I don't know exactly what they eat, but I'm guessing bugs or grubs or the like. Thus the holes in the yard....:headache: But I'm not about to enter into an armadillo war. My odds of winning are slim and besides, they were here first.
