Good morning. We had bad thunder storms last night and lost power. It POURED. Just what we needed, more rain. :headache: I have a sinus headache this morning. No surprise there. All this moisture is killing me.

Not much on the agenda today. We are going to the redemption center to return bottles. Hopefully they are open today. I need to make an ice cream cake b/c we are celebrating my daughters b-day tonight at 6pm.

Good morning everyone! I slept in this morning.....felt SO good. Traveling is fun but exhausting.

Not sure what we're doing this weekend. I have to spend today doing mundane stuff like grocery shopping, paying bills, and cleaning out the van (it's truly amazing the amount of trash that 5 people can manage to strew about in a confined space...). DH has to attempt to diagnose the loud sound coming from right behind the engine; half way home something broke loose down there and it now sounds like we have no muffler. DS12 thinks this is THE coolest thing..... If we move to TX we're going to have to buy a truck anyway, but for now we need the van to be running!

Speaking of TX, I have a gamillion pictures to upload and I'll write a little mini-TR of sorts later. It was an adventure!!

.

LegoMom, I must have missed some info while I was away from the boards. I didn't know you were going to TX and I had no idea you were thinking of moving there. I hope your van is nothing serious.

Yuck, Legomom--van troubles are not good. I am glad my car is still new (only 1 year old), but it's going to have to last me for a long time. I'm not buying another car until the wheels fall off of this one. Can't wait to see your pictures.

You can make an ice cream cake? That's impressive. :thumbsup2

Here's the "in a nutshell" story: before we left NH, DH looked into a job possibility down there. At that time he decided against it (for reasons that now look so flimsy!!) and we came to FL. Well, three months in FL and he has yet to find a "real" job and the outlook isn't promising. Meanwhile, he had kept in touch with the guy in TX and that position is still open, so we went out there for about 10 days to look further into it (and he worked while we were there). I'll write more detail about everything when I do my little mini-TR! Basically, it's a full-time job for DH doing something he loves to do, with a salary PLUS a house & utilities!! With the national unemployment now at 9.5%, it's pretty much a no-brainer... We'd be the ultimate in stupid to walk away from this.

And I don't think the van is anything too serious. It's running fine, it's just LOUD! It's something exhaust-related, which does have the potential to run into some $$, but nothing that threatens to make it drop dead.

This will be my 1st attempt.

I was concerned when you 1st mentioned you were moving to FL and your husband was going to look for work. I was hoping he would be lucky and find something.

I would love some ice cream cake right now. . .

We are on our way in a few minutes to pick up a new kitten. Long story short, our wonderful Tiger is gone. We haven't seen him in over a month. I wasn't too miffed about the whole thing until Sweetie started getting upset about it outside of Pleasure Island. We did some calling around yesterday and the result is we are going to get 2 new kittens today.

Sorry about the loss of your cat. I have had cats disappear too. One of which was a wonderful special guy. The not knowing what happened is tough. 2 new kittens will be fun. Do you have other cats at home?

I've got my trip pictures uploaded to PhotoBucket, so I'll post a few here and write a bit as I go.

After a day and a half in the confines of a van, boredom sets in with renewed vigor, as demonstrated here by DS9...

TX013.jpg

This is the road into the camp....It's 5 miles long and straight as an arrow! DS12 would have a blast on a dirt bike out here....

TX091.jpg

One of the typical spreads in the area...DH liked this old dead tree - it looks like it's reaching for the bale of hay!

TX092.jpg

The funniest thing are all the oil wells! They are scattered all over the place out there. You can have a huge field full of hundreds of cattle, and there's an oil well, smack in the middle...

Ok, on to the house:

This is the view from the front porch, looking towards the pond and the dock...

TX031.jpg

And, looking back at the house while standing on the dock....

TX040.jpg

I had to get a picture of this - this is the front screen door...it's wooden and creaks when you open it and sounds just like the one in the old "Walton's" TV show, which I have always wanted!!...

TX032.jpg

This is looking at the house from across the other side of the pond (could the setting be any cuter??!)....

...all this rain is just p*ssing me off....:headache:

These next two pictures are of the barn area...it's been unused for years and is overgrown and neglected but it's all there!! I can keep a horse or two and there is an enclosure (2nd pic) that is PERFECT for keeping chickens!...

TX047.jpg

Finally these are just a couple of scenic shots I took from the house...

Legomom--I am loving your pictures! They are just too awesome! That barn area is just perfect for a chicken coop!

Ya'll I've started my Trip Report. Link is in my siggie.

No others--they are both grey tabby cats, one named July and the other Goofy. I'll post pictures once we get them house trained.

10 Things I learned on this trip:

1) Texas IS "the West"....we were 5 hours beyond the Mississippi River and all the tv and radio stations start with a "K".

2) No amount of persuasion or threatening can calm an adolescent male who's been confined to a vehicle for two days straight and has begun to sing and dance in the back seat....

3) Coastal Alabama has THE most humid air. Ever.

4) They ain't kidding when they say everything's bigger in Texas...case in point is the GINORMOUS bull-frog sitting in our yard on our last night there...The thing was fully 8 inches high to the top of its head and that's no exaggeration!!!... Dude.

5) The panhandle of Florida is nothing like the peninsula and is, in fact, a separate state entirely.

6) No matter how tired you are after a long road trip, do not - I repeat DO NOT - *snortlaugh* while drinking a carbonated beverage....

7) College towns have a Starbucks on every corner.

8) You can create some very interesting renditions of your favorite songs when you attempt to sing them over 5 miles of "washboard" dirt road...

9) Armadillos are adorable.

10) Tree frogs, bull frogs and cicadas can keep you awake at night with their cacophany of noise....
