OK...so it says no sword of the toy kind allowed on the boat. Has anyone ever taken like a paper/cardboard sword that you can decorate on board? My crazy sister made some and showed the kids even after I told her let me check cause I didn't think they were allowed. :confused3

TIA!

You can purchase the toy pirate swords onboard. I also purchased 3 glow stick pirate swords and brought them on for pirate night last week-but they looked nothing like a sword. If you pack them and they look suspicious, they may open your bags, and possibly hold on to until the end of the cruise. I don't think the plastic toy ones should be an issue, especially the pirate toy ones at WDW or on the cruise. Have a great time!

In December, I took little pirate princess toy knives (small). They were 100% plastic/rubber, and made it onboard in our checked bags.

You should call Disney. They will let you know. The no toy swords is just because they poke and while in tight quarters could cause problems. But if you call them they will let you know. pirate:

I didn't know this!!!

We took a squishy foam one with us recently, they were selling harder plastic ones in the shop, along with hooks!!!

We took rubber/foam ones. Don't ask me where we got them b/c we've had them for years!!! This eldest DS playing air sword/guitar. :lmao:

Just pack whatever swords you want to bring in your packed luggage. Carry on is where you always get into trouble w/ items that are subject to interpretation.

If that was the case, we missed it and were not told otherwise

My son at dinner:

We saw lots of other kids with plastic swords as well.

As a PP said, we packed ours in our checked luggage.

The official answer from DCL:

http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/faqs/prohibited-items/toys/

Prohibited Items
Question: What toys are not permitted?
Answer: Toys resembling weapons (guns, knives, swords and other implements) cannot be brought onboard. If a Guest arrives with items that fit this description, standard security procedures surrounding these items may result in disappointment and delays in boarding.
---

This is one of those areas which is in the rules but DCL never enforces. I suspect they keep the language in there so they can enforce it at their descretion if there is a realistic look alike. I have never read a report of DCL confiscating toy weapons.

You will see all sorts toy knives, swords, and guns on pirate night. You will see toy guns and swords for sale in the gift shop onboard.

Thanks for all the responses. Guess we will be trying to take them like dear sis (MamaPoppins) so clearly stated a few posts above. :goodvibes We'll probably go with the packing idea.

BTW...love the pics! Thanks for sharing.

my best guess is that they have to implement such a rule for security purposes in case someone shows up with a replica that might be mistaken for the real thing. I do not think they would take away obvious foam swords.

The bolded shows a complete contradiction by DCL! Isn't Disney breaking their own rule by selling toy swords and guns onboard?

I agree with your interpretation. I think the key word is "resemble". Does a plastic toy really "resemble" a weapon? That's a matter of interpretation, thus, leaving Disney with a lot of leaway with enforcement. If it looks exactly like a real weapon (i.e. a dull ceremonial sword, a realistic metal pistol, etc.), then by all means, they should confiscate it. If it's obviously a toy similar to what they already sell in the gift shops, then they won't confiscate it.

An alternative explanation??: Disney puts this language out there to keep guests from bringing on plastic swords, guns, etc. so they can make money by selling significantly marked-up toy swords and guns in their gift shops! :lmao::goodvibes:rolleyes1

Agreed. :thumbsup2

Weird - we just got off the ship and there were a lot of swords and guns for sale in the gift shop. The guns were like the ones you see at the Pirates gift shop at MK and the swords and shields were what you see at the toy store in England at Epcot (or at Norway). They also had Pirate swords that had "Jack Sparrow" stamped on the side.
