Swollen, red, chapped, peeling lips - Allergy??

Two year old zombie thread bumped by newbie. What ever happened to your DH North of Mouse?

Thanks for asking!! After several episodes of severe cases within a few weeks of healing, then full blown misery of being red, swollen, burning, peeling, then repeat, the allergist put him on prednisone. As luck would have it, he was allergic to the Prednisone (or had a reaction) of severe hiccups (learned that was a side effect for some). After the third day he started hiccuping non-stop - exceptions were when he was 'sound' asleep and when he was eating (very strange). He stopped the Prednisone cold turkey after 6 days as he couldn't deal with that anymore.

Anyhow, he really 'healed' himself - Dr. was 'not' helping. He used Blistex all his life and decided that had to be the culprit (was trying to keep his lips moist as they hurt and burned so much). They gradually healed 'again' when he stopped 'any' moisturizer and 'so far' has not happened again! :confused3

I finally got him to try pure Vaseline - for lips in tube - nothing else - that's what he is using now for dry lips and has had no more problems. Can hardly believe it was the Blistex, but he will never use it again!!

May 'never' actually know if it was entirely the Blistex, but so far, so good!! :thumbsup2

Thanks again for inquiring!!

Thanks for the update! I developed an allergy to most commercial toothpastes. I have to use 'natural' toothpastes that cost 2-3 times as much as a tube of Crest or I'll develop the same kind of symptoms. I also stumbled on the cause of the problem after unsuccessfully seeking help from an allergist.
