Swingers' party at hotel angers soccer parents
'We thought we were coming to Orlando, not the Las Vegas Strip'

Updated: 1:13 p.m. ET Jan. 3, 2006
ORLANDO, Fla. - Some teenage soccer players and their parents saw more sights than they wanted when they stayed at a hotel where about 200 swingers were having a New Year’s party.

Paul Camporini brought his wife, seventh-grade daughter and eighth-grade son from Safety Harbor and said he had to “delicately explain to my Catholic school children that swingers change partners during the evening.”

“My biggest gripe is that the hotel had two distinctly different groups under the same roof,” said Camporini, 49. “A soccer team and middle-aged swingers should not have been booked together.”

The families said the sexually adventurous partygoers sometimes flashed breasts and bare buttocks in front of the children as they sashayed through the hotel atrium. The parents described the dress at the Crowne Plaza Hotel-Airport in Orlando as “raunchy, despicable and worse than prostitutes.”

“We thought we were coming to Orlando, not the Las Vegas Strip,” said Mark Gilbert, the father of a boy who plays on the Clearwater Chargers, a group of 13-and-under players from Florida.

No prior warning
The teams booked the $92-a-night rooms for Disney’s Soccer Showcase, and said hotel management did not tell them about the swingers’ party or try to keep the partygoers away from the children.

Hotel managers did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment Tuesday. All of the swingers had checked out of the hotel by late Sunday.

“We’re not prudes by any means,” said Rob Young of Greenville, S.C., who said his two daughters, Leah, 13 and Lauren, 11, asked questions he struggled to answer. “We would have liked to have been informed when we checked into the hotel so we could have made other arrangements.

“The kids could see through the glass atrium into the ballroom where naked people were dancing. There were exposed breasts, thongs and see-through dresses on women who were not wearing any underwear.”

Young said he complained to hotel management and to John Hollis, an off-duty Orlando police officer hired by the hotel for a New Year’s Eve security detail. He said neither did anything to help.

Lt. John Mina, a watch commander for the Orlando Police Department, said Hollis didn’t witness anything illegal.

Wow!! Talk about 2 groups that really shouldn't have been sharing the hotel. I wouldn't want my children to be exposed to that at such a young age. My "kids" are now 16 and 18 and if they saw this sort of behavior we would be having a very long talk in our room about what is and is not appropriate behavior in public places.

I saw this on MSN and wondered how long it would be until it hit the boards. If I had been staying at that hotel with my family I would have been furious. IMHO the hotel has an obligation to inform other guests that something like this is taking place during their stay. I'd say at the very least it should have been kept in a non-public part of the hotel, but who are we kidding? The chances of this behaviour spilling out into the public part of the hotel is probably part of the fun for the swingers.

I'm not a prude either, and I think swingers have just as much right as anyone else to get together, but the hotel should let others know about this in advance. Then, people can make an informed decision about whether or not they should stay there.

Holy crap! :earseek: I'm 34 and my eyes are too young to be exposed to that, much less the eyes of middle school kids! I'm not a prude, either, but sometimes there really is such a thing as TOO MUCH INFORMATION!

Move along folks, nothing to see here. :rotfl:

We just found out that there is a "swingers group" in our area. I live in a farming community, small towns, people are having a field day- :rotfl2: , finding out who belongs to this sort of thing.

I don't really see how this is the hotel's responsibility. Unless it is illegal to host a swingers ball. Just because there's a "family group" also staying doesn't mean they shouldn't have allowed the swingers. I'm sure there were plenty of families who weren't part of the group at the hotel too. Do they really have the responsibility of informing all guests about who the other guests are?

Uh, why can't the parents keep their children away from the other people's party?

Good question.

Since people love it when it's used to say things have got too PC...

Since when to people have the right not to be offended?

And here I thought swingers were nice people who did their thing out of the eye of the public. Well I really didn't know but since I had never seen any that is what I figured. Sounds more like an exhibitionist ball to me.

pssst....anyone want to buy some photos??  I can't dis all the time :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Orlando......."The Happiest Place on Earth!!!!" :cool1: :earseek:

The hotel shouldn't have allowed the swingers to go around without being clothed. That is against the law, it's called indecent exposure. You shouldn't have to make the kids close their eyes walking through a hotel lobby to protect them, they took them to a hotel, not a strip club.

What???? There's a swingers club in Lomira???

The hotel certainly has the right to let both groups stay there, that's not the question. Is it right to book both groups at the same time? Of course not.

Not everything some prudes think is illegal is actually illegal. Chances are the people in question knew exactly what was required to make their activities legal and did just that.

BTW: When people start with "We're not prudes", they are usually prudes.

That says it pretty well, christinadei.

Why not? Like I said before, even if the soccer families weren't there, I'm sure there would have been individual families there. And would the hotel necessarily know what type of group books parties with them? I suppose it's possible, but it's also possible that they didn't know they were having a swingers party and a family party--just two parties. Maybe this is a good lesson learned: Always ask if there will be swingers (or other objectionable types) at the hotel before you book.

The thing that gets me is the stupidity of the hotel. They should have protected themselves from any possiblity of anything being seen. I.e. Cover the Atrium Windows Up! Their own liability should have given them a little bit of sense. From reading what was going on, if there were any exposed (normally covered up) body parts, then yes it was indecent exposure. Do you stand in front of your window naked? (Yes, I know there was a thread about that a while back:)) They could actually get away with the skimpy clothing because of the skimpiness of swim suits, but I bet Orlando has nudity laws.;)
