Swine Flu at Disney?

If you didn't notice I had h1n1 as did my entire family and all my friends. Not one of us was admitted to the hospital.

Thats you and your family, glad you are well. Not everyone is so lucky.I know what I see at work and I know how many people on vents with the flu I have taken care of in the last 6 months..You DO not.

He told me to make sure to wash my hands and make sure to be careful as far as coughing and sneezing goes. But he said other than that there isn't much else I could do.It's a cruise ship and he understood they can't keep my locked up and that I payed good money for the trip. Not to mention locking someone up like that is probably illegal.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner, folks! The "I paid good money for this trip" justification rears its ugly head once again. :lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

WRONG! You absolutely could've been quarantined to your cabin. Consider yourself lucky that you were free to roam.

It's true that a lot of people die every year from the regular flu - primarily the elderly. H1N1 tends to strike young and healthy people, and for that reason I wanted my kids immunized - especially after our friend nearly died from pneumonia.

Really I didn't know they could do that and neither did the doctor apparently.Do they refund your money or provide you with another cruise? Bc if not there is nothing on this earth that will keep me locked in a boring room with the same movies on a loop.

Once vaccinated it takes several WEEKS to sero convert and get immunity. So you can STILL catch it if you were recently vaccinated. As for the safety of the vaccine , the number of reactions and adverse effects are NO WORSE than the seasonal flu vaccine. Both drugs are made the EXACT SAME WAY. I think the media with all its crap about the Swine vaccine from years ago has made people ridiculously on edge about it.I vaccinated my whole family including my kids, nieces, nephews and everyone has been FINE.If you react to seasonal flu vaccine , you will react to H1n1. Also take into account that they have had record turnout for people to receive all flu vaccines this year....INCLUDING PEOPLE WHO NEVER HAD IT BEFORE AND DIDN'T KNOW THEY WOULD REACT.

I have never gotten vaccinated for the flu and I have never had the flu. This year however, I do believe I had the swince flu. Although I was never tested. I had the high fever and bad headache everyone talks about. It lasted 3 days and I was fine. I also fall into the category of people they say "should" get vaccinated. Also, you have to get the 2 swine flu vaccines several weeks apart. It is not just one. It is followed up with a 2nd one weeks later.

The cruise line has no obligation to refund your money or provide you with another cruise if you are sick. People are usually quarantined when they have noro virus, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same for H1N1. If you have trip insurance, it might reimburse you for the days you were confined to your room, as well as cover your onboard medical bills. Without insurance - you are probably out of luck.

Wow that sucks.Next time I'll skip the parks before the cruise.

If you had trip insurance you would of been refunded your trip if you had to be confined to your room the entire trip. All you would of needed would be the a note from the ship's doctor stating you had swince flu.

But as other pointed out those test are not accurate. You probably did not have it at all. Everyone I know who has had it had a horrid headache, achey body and are a very labored breathing. Very heavy feeling in the chest. I have seasonal asthma and I had to use my inhaler when I was sick.

According to the paper I got when I was vaccinated yesterday, only children through age 9 need two doses - one month apart.

The point remains that h1n1 is not as big of a threat as the regular flu.Any type of flu and even the cold can give you pneumonia.

AND just because you are vaccinated does not mean you will not get it. You will most likely get a milder case of the flu or swine flu. Studies also show the virus can not replicate itself in an acidic enviornment. Taking vit c everyday will create this type of enviornment in your body. I personally would rather go that route. My mother and my son were around me when I was sick and they did not get sick. They also were taking 2000mg of Vit C everyday. During the time I was sick I was having some stomach issues and my galbladder was not happy so I was not taking them and I was also not sleeping right. My body was stressed. I am not surprised I became sick to be honest.

I am more concerned about the potential for a young adult (like one of my kids) to become seriously ill by H1N1 than I am about any ill effects of the vaccine.

Riiiight. How about the people who study this for a living and know that the real threat of h1n1 comes from the cytokine storms and potential pneumonia. I personally know 4 people who have been on vents in the past 2 months. My friend's two year old died yesterday after being on a vent for 3 days.

That is so sad

You sure the doctor told you to go out and infect other people? I wonder if they had a real medical license. Any sane doctor would tell you to isolate yourself in accordance with the CDC, USAMRID, and WHO recommendations.

That surprised me too, but then they've done the same thing here with everyone ie. if you're well enough to walk around, you can. It's up to every individual to protect themselves from H1N1, since it apparently has a longer incubation period than the regular flu -- we've been told it is up to 5 days where we live.

BTW, they've stopped swabbing for H1N1 here unless somebody is admitted to hospital, because all of the swabs were coming back positive.

Our whole family was vaccinated, and we're fine (but very relieved that we were able to get vaccinated) -- but I can't comment on your vaccination program in the US since ours was a different formulation. It only takes 10 days to get immunity, and I'm on day 8 :cheer2:

and as a parent that is your choice to each his own.

My son is healthy and never gets sick. In fact I can not even think of the last time he was sick and he is only 7 yrs old. My choice is to not give him either flu vaccine. In fact, I have never given it to him in his entire life.

If you had bother to read my post you would have read that I did what the doctor told me to do.I was fine and so was everyone else.

Obviously, I did bother to read your post....and I am surprised that if they diagnosed you with H1N1, that they did not quaranteen you. If they quaranteen for the noro virus, it seems odd that they wouldn't for H1N1. I'm not saying that you are lying, or anything like that....it just seems odd.

I have the flu right now. I don't know if it's H1N1 or the seasonal flu, they did not test me, they just gave me Tamiflu. And I can honestly say, that if I were on a cruise ship, I would not feel like doing anything, but staying in my room. I feel really crummy. But that's not to say that others may have a milder form of it.

If this was a Disney Cruise you would have been quantined to your cabin!!
