Once vaccinated it takes several WEEKS to sero convert and get immunity.So you can STILL catch it if you were recently vaccinated. As for the safety of the vaccine , the number of reactions and adverse effects are NO WORSE than the seasonal flu vaccine. Both drugs are made the EXACT SAME WAY. I think the media with all its crap about the Swine vaccine from years ago has made people ridiculously on edge about it.I vaccinated my whole family including my kids,nieces,nephews and everyone has been FINE.If you react to seasonal flu vaccine , you will react to H1n1. Also take into account that they have had record turnout for people to receive all flu vaccines this year....INCLUDING PEOPLE WHO NEVER HAD IT BEFORE AND DIDN'T KNOW THEY WOULD REACT.

The single dose of the H1N1 vaccine does not contain thimerosal. Only the multidose vials have it in them. If you ask for a preservative free vaccine, you will likely get the single dose vial. That is what they give children and pregnant women. For the mercury, it is methyl mercury that is shown to be harmful when taken into your body, not ethyl mercury which is what is in thimerosal. Thimerosal is added to vaccines to keep them from being tainted. Multidose vaccines require repeated needle insertions, which can push bacteria into the vial. Thimerosal prevents bacterial contamination of vaccines, which can cause illness and toxic shock.


OP, a PP is correct in that most doctors are not swabbing anymore as the test is not very accurate. They are also correct in that, in most cases non high risk patients are not given Tamiflu. It's generally reserved for people who have a higher risk of complications, like young kids, pregnant women, and asthmatics. If you feel sick, your best bet is to just stay in your room and rest, don't go out unless you feel it is a true emergency.

I'd also like to point out that the vaccine isn't that safe.Quite a few people have had health problems bc of the H1N1 vaccine.

I could tell you there are alot..I work in a hospital and we have had plenty of otherwise healthy adults and children on vents thanks to the flu

Well it's their children not yours so don't you butt in or judge them.Personally me,my friends,and most people I know were glad we got it so early.We now have protection against it so if it gets worse and actually starts killing healthy people we'll be fine.

Yea the swine flu is dying out here in FL at least where I live.

As to how they handle it I don't know.But back in September I caught the swine flu at WDW before starting a Disney cruise.I started getting symptoms the day after we left port.They tested me on the ship and gave me said it was the swine flu and told me to come back if it got worse.It didn't interfere with my cruise at all I walked around,ate,and played sports the whole time.

You obviously didn't care if you infected others.

They should be able to test, since they can in our local doctors' office. My 2 yo granddaughter went in last week with a sore throat and the first thing they did was test for H1N1. It was negative, but again she could not get the vaccine as she's been trying for 3 weeks, but she keeps getting the sniffles (like most 2 yo).

We leave this week and we got both the regular flu shot and the H1N1 shot. (first time for us). No effects whatsoever. All of our family members have been trying to get it, while some have, others are still trying. I'm glad my doctors office has plenty of vaccine for their patients. I'm allowing 2 weeks before our cruise to have it take affect.

They can likely do a rapid test, which will only show if you're positive for influenza or not. In general, the rapid tests are very often wrong and cannot show which specific strain you are carrying. In order to do that, the test must be sent out to a large laboratory such as one found in a hospital.

I personally know 4 people who have been on vents in the past 2 months. My friend's two year old died yesterday after being on a vent for 3 days.

The point remains that h1n1 is not as big of a threat as the regular flu.Any type of flu and even the cold can give you pneumonia.

He told me to make sure to wash my hands and make sure to be careful as far as coughing and sneezing goes.But he said other than that there isn't much else I could do.It's a cruise ship and he understood they can't keep my locked up and that I payed good money for the trip.Not to mention locking someone up like that is probably illegal.

If you didn't notice I had h1n1 as did my entire family and all my friends.Not one of us was admitted to the hospital.

I agree. I'm currently earning my Master's degree in virology and microbiology. I know way more about this stuff than I would ever like to know. Next my bed right now is my backpack with two 15 pound texts on virology, and here in bed with me (supposed to be studying) is a nice stack of articles from professional journals, all about H1N1. Fascinating stuff but I'm ready to have my degree in hand and just be done with it all.
