ok ladies, it's that time of year again....when we have to buy a new swimming suit :scared1:

it has actually been a few years for me since a new suit and i have no clue about the "rules".

if you are "between sizes" do you buy the next size up or the next size down?

i am at first thinking the next size up so i won't look like 10 pounds of sauage in a 5 pound link, but then i am thinking that the next size down would be better because when it gets wet i don't want that pouch of extra fabric hanging from my bottom.....i am over thinking this i know.

i need advise from you swimmers out there? size up or size down?

Size up or size down completely depends on the brand and swimsuit, IMO. They never run quite the same, and you could find that one runs a little big, so go a size down, or that it's a little smallish, and you may want to go a size up. That said, in order to find these things out, you pretty much need to try it on.

honestly, i think it depends on what size you are!

Size 4 or 6, i would go smaller!

Size 14 or 16--i would go larger!

Because, honestly, if your are smaller and a little tight...OKAY
big and tight--NOT OKAY!

but that is just my opinion.

I am in same situation...except,, I am between a 8 or 10? Depending on what time of the month it is....honestly! I usually lose 5-10 olbs come May, because I refuse to buy larger shorts, so I just get myself in the 6 or 8 shorts! Swimsuits always run small I think...I usually always wear a size larger than I do in regular clothes!

Good Luck!

::yes:: Sadly there are no hard and fast rules for sizing of anything anymore!! Try on your regular size, a size down and a size up.

Take more than one size of the swimsuit you like into the dressing room, start with the smallest one, and then keep trying until one fits!

Or, alternatively, start with the biggest one and keep going down until you can't fit into one...

Newport news has some really, really good suits at a good price, and they run true to size, www.newport-news.com

I have always found swimsuits to run on the small size-both smaller sizes and bigger sizes.

I run into this every year.

:confused3

FYI- i ordered a bikini from Newport News about 3 years ago, they sent me the bottoms and said the top was sold out! Okay...

WHY WOULD I WANT BOTTOMS WITHOUT THE TOP!!!

Had to send the bottoms back, but lost shipping costs! Never again!

I agree, cute stuff though!

Yeah, just try them on. I ended up going up a size in the top (because the girls needed a little extra coverage) and went a little snug in the bottom.

While I agree that a too-tight bottom isn't attractive, neither is one that the fabric bunches and sags and gapes or rides up at the legholes because it is a tad too big.

Grab a few different sizes. I always seem to have to go up a couple of sizes. The problem is that I'm flat chested so the top doesn't always work right.

thank you for all the replies. Ah - if it were only that easy to be able to try them on, but the suits i am looking at are online. i think i will order now (pretty early) the size larger and that way i will have time to return and reorder the smaller size before they are out of stock for the season.

great newport site by the way. i used to get their catalogs a few years back, nice stuff. i am looking the blair.com site. some suits are a bit old-ish looking, but some are very cute and built to hide imperfections. (if ya know what i mean?!?!?)
