Swim diapers in the pools. Enforced? Or not?

I still say if she disobey's the rule and allow's her non-potty trained child in a pool wearing a swim diaper/or no diaper, then report her.

Some people need to learn the hard way, and being removed from the pool/s hopefully should humiliate her enough into being an adult.

Family relations can be difficult at best, but speaking your mind is easier!

BTW, What is your Brothers opinion on this?
This is a personal question so I understand if you don't want to answer it :)

From the DCL site

Children under 3 years of age who are not toilet trained are welcome to enjoy the Splash Zone next to Mickey's Pool. This special play area has been designed exclusively for the enjoyment of children wearing swim diapers.

My issue is the bolded part. I have no problem with the no non-PT kids in the pool. My kids will be 33 and 16 months when we sail. Hopefully the older one will be PT, but he is a boy, so we'll see. But, I understand they let older kids in the splash pad. This is the part I don't think is right. If that spot is for the little ones, keep it for the little ones. My son (11 months now) is always almost trampled by the 5-8 year olds at our local splash pad.

When the one ear was reserved for the little kids I would tell the older ones that was the pool for the little kids who still peed in their pants...so that meant it was in the water they were sitting in. That usually did the trick to get them out. ;)

I remember one comedian onboard joking about the Mickey pool, saying, "The water looked like Mickey had an ear infection."

You got it--kids who are not potty trained are not allowed to swim in the pools. There is a "splash area" where they can play in water in their diapers.

I'm with the previous posters--we saw the Mickey pool closed on at least 3 occasions on our last cruise when one person's selfishness/refusal to follow rules ruined the fun for all the younger kids.

As ex-techie said, these are US public health service rules, not DCL rules.

Also European public health rules!

I've seen swim diapers referred to as "fecal teabags." :rotfl:

And the others are correct- non potty trained children are not permitted in pools on ANY U.S. based cruiselines. They take disease prevention very seriously. Noro viruses cost cruise lines lots of $$$, and ruin the vacations of many cruisers.
:scared1:
Tell her that if she does not put her kid in a swim diaper that you are going to post her sail date and room # so that when her kid closes down the pool everyone can go by and thank her for her consideration :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Form an orderly queue mind!:)

So what do they do when, say, a 14 month old (just pulled a somewhat random age) is in the pool WITHOUT a swim diaper?! Most likely, a 14 month old is NOT potty trained (again... most likely). Will they enforce the rule then, or just allow the child to be in there, since they can't PROVE that the kid's not potty trained?! Or will they take the parent's word on it - if the parent says that their 9 month old is potty trained, will they allow them to be in the pool?!

Also, I read on another thread that they drain ALL the pools, not just the infected pool, because all of the pools share the same filtration system. Is that correct?! :confused3
Nah..just the 'infected' one

In 5 cruises my DD..who is now 17 has never been in the pools. Kid soup she calls it....with a faint wiff of urine. Shes is looking forward to the first cruise we do after her birthday...which will be the day after her 18th...to go in the adult pool...with all the dribbly old ladies..:rolleyes1

I wonder if they allow people in Depends in the adult pool? And I'm only half joking.

OP here!!! I must say that I am shocked that my little post about swim diapers has generated a 4 page thread!!

SIL is just one of those people who has to nit pick everything and I wouldn't put it past her to put my niece in the pool anyway. My mother had the same suggestion as some of you...POTTY TRAIN HER!!! She is interested in the potty so go for it.

Have no fear I will enjoy my cruise regardless. My stateroom is Aft and theirs is forward :thumbsup2

Personally, I'm surprised it's only 4 pages so far. ;)

I don't know your family dynamics, but in my family I would not be shy to an in-law about how they will shut down the pools in the event of an accident.

I did not read this whole thread, but wanted to jump in and say that REAL swim diapers - i.e., the ones that are NOT disposable, actually DO hold fecal matter in. When fitted properly (snug against all openings) they work very well. I've been in waterbabies with both my children since they were 4 months old, and have seen on many, many occasions where swim diapers have successfully kept the pool from being drained due to contamination.

It is when parents use the disposable ones that there is a problem, because those do absolutely NOTHING.

I don't believe the health regulations distinguish between disposable and "REAL".

Probably not. But it would be awesome if instead of the ship selling those awful packages of disposable swim diapers, they'd sell the real ones. There would be far less issues with it if they did. And it's not like they are more expensive. You can buy them at Target for $5, which is a lot less than a package of the swim diapers, AND it's reusable.

Edited to be clear that I'm not advocating to break the rules and take your non-potty trained kid in the big pool. I'm just saying that there would be less issues if people used real swim diapers.

I'm surprised how short it is too. Any topic that deals with laws that some folks disagree with can get heated. Actually, if there is a way we could find a way to open a thread with swim diapers, smoking, taking kids out of school for a cruise, coffee , disembarkation day and early versus late seating at dinner, it would fill up all the DIS board hard drives.:lmao:

Sooooo, What have you decided to do after reading the 4 pages of post's on here replying to your post?! :)
Although you have Staterooms at other ends of the ship, what have you decided to do about your SIL putting your niece in a pool she might "contaminate"?

Are you going to tell her what the rules are, report her if she does. bite your lip or post her stateroom number on here? ;) Lol!

Come on! Don't leave us hanging, and beside's, it might help others with similar family members know how you dealt with it, and how to deal with their's!

DS was a little over 2 when he first sailed with us. I showed him pictures of the Mickey pool (on the Wonder) and told him that if he wanted to swim in that pool he would have to start using the potty. He trained in 3 days and was able to swim in Mickey's pool a few weeks later. He told everybody about it!

Haha! Love it! :thumbsup2
What a great way to learn potty training! Learn and reward!
If only a few more people or SIL's would be creative like that then the pool's would stay open for everyone to use them!

Ex- techie--- As soon as I got a few responses from my wonderful DisPeeps I let my SIL know that it was strictly enforced. I enjoyed telling her. She is hung up on what she can't do with my youngest niece instead of focusing on what she can do. Whatever, let it ruin her vacation not mine.

Today I got a text about a whole different problem with the cruise. So it's just one thing after another. So @Woody--- I don't know if are staterooms will be far enough apart ;)

Anything else we can help you with? And you realize our advice is worth every penny you pay us.

Re: potty training. Our DD was real stubborn til she saw her brother's Mickey Mouse underwear and wanted some. DH told her that Mickey didn't want to get wet. She was potty trained within a day or two. At the time, there were no Disney panties, :scared1: only little boy's briefs, so she spent several months in her own boy-type undies til Disney came out with lil girl stuff. :cheer2:
