For the next month, after the SWGS at DHS at 8:15 p.m. Saturday., we are am planning on either walking over or boat ride to Epcot since Epcot will be open to 10:00 p.m. I know the Food and Wine fesitival will be going on but we are not interested.

Is is good that we can hop on a ride or two like Figment or Pixar short or perhaps Soarin. Will it be terribly crowded? is there a chance we could get a good view for illuminations as well?

Journey into imagination and the pixar shorts close at 7pm. Soarin should have a short line at that time of night
If you don't need to be at the rail for illuminations you might be able to find a good spot

The fireworks will be over just before 8:30 and you can bet that a whole lot of people will be going out the gate with you afterwards. As you exit, I would look at the boat dock- if the line is not huge yet, and if there is a boat coming towards the dock, I would go for the boat- otherwise, I would just walk. It takes around 20 minutes to walk it. We stay at YC/BC during our October trips so we have been in EPCOT briefly on the Saturdays of our trips. It will likely be insane walking from IG to FW, but once you get out of WS it isn't that bad. On arrival night 2 years ago, we actually went to EPCOT on Saturday night, but did an ADR and then went to Future World. FW was great even though WS was crazy. The Soarin line may not be too bad for you and TT, MS and Spaceship Earth will probably be really short (if not TT's regular line, I bet single rider is short). There are so many places to stop and watch Illuminations, that I think you would be fine there. It is one of those things that if we were staying in that area and walking back to our resort we would do. If you are relying on Disney Transportation- we would probably do it if you really want to see Illuminations, BUT we would definitely watch Illuminations from closer to FW and we would book it to the transportation immediately when it ends to get ahead of the crazy F&W crowd.

If you are planning to go to Future World you can take the bus from DHS to the front of Epcot. If you walk or take the boat you will enter Epcot at the International Gateway and will need to walk through the WS crowds.
