Wednesday, November 24, 2010 - Day Three - Disneyland Paris Hollywood Studios
Woke up in time for our breakfast slot. It was not crowded. A waitress brought us to our table and then we were free to eat as much as we wanted. They had cold cereals, Dannon Yogurt and a little teeny yogurt that I think was for babies but we ate anyway lol. It was little thicker than regular yogurt. There were cold meats (ham, salami and I think chicken) and cheeses (Swiss and I forget what else). Croissants, rolls, and square croissants with chocolate bits in it. Fruit salad and this is different…..a garlic spread, a red sauce spread and green and black olives. Butter, jam, Jennifer’s favorite - NUTELLA!! Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, orange juice, milk and pineapple juice. Nothing hot. I had zip locks and did what everyone on the internet said to do which is to pack a lunch from breakfast and carry it in my pack.
Off to the studios (after putting yogurt on ice in our room for later).
Hollywood Studios is as quiet today as Disneyland was yesterday with most of everything being a walk on. We started with walking through an arcade that had shops and eating establishments but we walked through to get to “Crush’ Coaster” the headliner ride in this park. Lines for this on a regular day can reach 2 hours long and there is no fastpass. As soon as we exited we saw Mike from Monsters Inc. at a meet and greet and the girls wanted a photo so we got on line. I went for Crush fastpass before I saw there weren’t any. Back to the girls…we waited a few minute but then Mike just walked away!! Not like Orlando at all…..they just end it with no warning!! We didnt wait for him to come back as we didnt know how long it would be and I wanted to get the headliner attraction done.
Girls went on Crush…..it was posted as a 30 minute wait so I went back to the arcade. I bought a Mickey pencil case. It was so cute. I can use it at work. I like functional souvenirs whenever possible.
I walked back to Crush and took a decent picture of the girls on the ride. From there we proceeded to the new Pixar area but we just kind of walked through there as the rides where really mostly kiddy rides. Jess made a mental note to buy her boyfriend Kenny some Army Men as a gift if we can find them. Now we made our way to the Hollywood Tower of Terror Hotel. Girls went on…. I waited on a bench.
When we started the day the weather was not bad….sunny and a little cold. Now it started getting cold. I was freezing.
When they came out they said their on ride photo was great so I went in and bought it for them (2 photos - 20 euros)…..duh me….I should have been waiting in the exit gift shop the whole time…where it is warm.
On to the Backlot Tour which is kind of like ours but also has a lot of props on display from what I gathered was a famous French film.
Back to Pixar place, girls started to wait for the parachute drop and decided the wait wasn’t worth it. Jennifer didn’t want to do RCRacer which is like those huge ships that swing back and forth. I don’t blame her….lets ride the things we CANT ride anywhere else.
Rock n Roller Coaster…..they wanted to see if it was different than Orlando. There was a great “singing in the rain” umbrella near here. Unlike the one in Florida…this one really POURED rain on you. I would think it would be the opposite as it is so hot in Florida and it is so cold in France…but I did it very carefully so as to not get drenched.
Now I started to have a problem because there were 3 shows to see and not all of them are in English so timing is important. I had time the Stitch show well so after Rock n Roller Coaster we went right there and it was great. Our equivalent is Turtle Talk with Crush. Stitch interacts with the audience members and boy did he make fun of this poor man from Holland. It was great. And the best thing? As soon as walk out the Ratatouille Stars ‘n’ Cars Parade is about to start!! OH NO my camera is dying…..this is why I don’t like cameras that don’t take batteries. I spend the rest of the afternoon babying photos out of the camera before it shuts down. I missed the first float that have Mickey and Minnie in it but got some others that are pretty good. The characters get out of their cars and come up to the rope where the crowds are to interact and sign autographs. Really cool.
Against the advice of the British couple next to us we go to see Armeggedon .. A Special Effects show. They were right…it wasn’t worth it.
We now have Animagique and Cinemagique left to see…..neither of which is starting up for an hour so we decide to go into the arcade and eat lunch. Pizza…..that’s what we had….pizza and drinks. The restaurant is “En Coulisse”. We had 2 personal pizzas that the 3 of us shared and 3 drinks one in a souvenir mug (27.95 euros). It was good.
Saw both shows … one after the other…..we may have shopped in between but I don’t remember. Animagique was cute….sort of like a character dream sequence with blue lights and things flying around….. Cinemagique was GREAT. Old movie, black and white on the screen with Martin Short (in color) on the stage (not really on the stage but the actor is really on the screen). An actor sitting in the audience climbs onto the stage and “goes though” a door on the screen that brings him (Martin Short) into the movie that’s playing.
After this we decide to go back to the room to charge my camera and get Jennifer’s camera and go back to Disneyland to watch the Christmas Tree lighting, show and parade…..which we did. Saw the Tree Lighting as soon as we got into the park. Then sat on Main Street. We watched the castle stage show, the lighting of the castle and the French Disney parade “Fantillusion” all from the same spot. We were tired and it was very cold but I am glad we did it.
Walking home through the Disney Village we decided to go to Billy Bobs for a bite to eat and to sit down because it was only about 7:30 and there is nothing to do at the hotel…they don’t even have pay per view movies!! Billy Bobs is a bar restaurant in the Disney village that has live entertainment at night……like……line dancing lol…..or what the French think line dancing is…. There is an all you can eat buffet but it was very expensive and did not have much for a vegetarian so we sat where we could see the show and just order snacks and drinks. I had a drink called a Kir here … actually 2. It was pretty good. Jess and I had stuffed baked potatoes and Jennifer had chicken nuggets. This came to 44.45euros ($65.78). The show difficult to see as we were on the second floor and the railing and angle of our table blocked the view but the music was good enough and our server was great…even though we don’t speak French?).
We walked home through the village which really takes as much time as it does to walk to the bus stop and take the bus. Our hotel is on the opposite side of the lake. We walked past the New York Hotel on our way and Panamagique which is a tethered hot air balloon. At the NY Hotel they have an ice skating rink set up but I have read that it is not ice. It is some sort of plastic and we never had the time to check it out. I would have liked to try the balloon but there is always the one in Orlando.
