Is it possible to ever get a refund on a wanna get away fare?

Little background! We only fly once in a while so using funds for future flight can't see possible. DS is in college and we planned a huge last family Disney vacation before he goes off on his own. The 2 weeks over Christmas has been planned since last December and airfare was bought last June. DS was going to apply for internship for next spring with a local company and this spring would be his last semester of school. Well low and behold the company intervied DS last week and accepted him for the internship.:banana: They even offered him to start now :woohoo:, giving 2 semesters as an intern and paying for this semester and next. Now the problem, he now has a position to go to and is locked in till next June. Travel funds will expire before he is out of this program. I know and understand that this is AWSOME for him and that this opportunity is a dream and blessing for him. He will not be able to go with us and it is killing me to be away from my baby over the holidays. DH says its time we go on and that we need to let him follow his dreams. During the interview they mentioned working through the holidays and DS was afraid to mention, Oh my family has a vacation! He did not want this info to make them think he was not serious about this position. If I cancel his RT flight with SWA has anyone been able to write for a full refund?

Southwest is already being accommodating by offering a future travel voucher so, other for death of traveling passenger, or very close relative, I think it is unlikely they will change their policy to get you a full refund.
Sorry!

Once he starts, he could talk to his boss about taking just a day or two off (maybe the Monday before Christmas to give him a 4 day weekend), and he could fly out to join you for Christmas. It wouldn't be the same as 2 weeks, but it would let you have your vacation and still spend Christmas with him, and he would still get a mini-vacation. We did a 4 day weekend a few weeks ago, and it was really fun!

They actually work 365 days, 24 hours a day so he may not know about a day off till 24 hours prior. With this schedule we knew we couldn't plan anything with him during the program, thus planning the trip prior to starting. Who would have dreamed acceptance prior to Jan. The recomendation, experience, tutition paid for, and making $17 hours will be worth it.

It never hurts to ask. I don't know how successful you will be.
The other alternative is to extend the expiring TTF funds for a $75.00 fee.

Thank you:thumbsup2 Reading the thread we need to make sure both flights are under one account so just one fee to extend. Once expired, we have up to 6 months to extend, then we can pay to extend and that will be in the form of a LUV voucher with no name attached and could be used by any of us. Hope I am reading this right.

Since we don't fly very often and if we don't end up using this has anyone given TTF to military or donate in some other way? Just so hate to see all this money just evaporate into thin air.

I've heard that you can donate unused funds to Make A Wish, but not sure about the military.
