Hi all, I am wondering for people who watch airfare on Southwest frequently, is it usual for them to open for booking 9 mths in advance (they are open right now til June 2012 and have been for a few weeks) or is this a new thing (maybe since acquiring Airtran?) I am just curious because I would be ecstatic if this was their new way of booking since I love pre planning farrrrr in advance but usually with Southwest I get 6 months. Any insight? TIA! :goodvibes

Well, they're only open to June 1, so it's really only eight months. However, if they do open through Aug. 10 on Nov. 14, as planned, that would be almost nine months out.

That is a long lead time by historical standards. You can see a list of release dates going back a few years here if you want to check.
