SW: No More Shark Dive?

In 2006 my husband and I took part in the "Shark Dive" experience (or whatever it was called, I don't remember), where we got to go in a cage in the shark tank. I don't see it offered on the website anymore. Does anyone know when they stopped doing it and why? It didn't feel dangerous whatsoever and the sharks at the time were all docile breeds when we did it so I'm very curious why they discontinued it.

I don't know when they stopped doing the shark dive, but I wouldn't think it was due to safety concerns.

I know they started offering a similar experience at Discovery Cove, called SeaVenture, where you wear the same kind of dive helmets. They started offering SeaVenture in 2011, not long after the Grand Reef (at DC) opened. Maybe for reasons I don't know, they didn't want two similar experiences at both parks?

I really wish the shark dive still existed because my boyfriend and I would have LOVED to do it. We have done SeaVenture 2X at DC, though.

My husband and I are going to do Seaventure when we go in September! We've never done it before. I'm wondering if I will feel at all claustrophobic in the helmet... I did feel it slightly when we did the shark experience but I survived. I'm really looking forward to our DC day, we loved it there the one other time we went!

That's great! You'll enjoy it. You may still feel claustrophobic if you did when you did the shark experience because I believe it's the same/similar kind of helmet. But hopefully you will get comfortable with time and practice.

It was stopped when Discovery Cove started their Sea Venture, they didn't want the programs competing with each other.

One of the kids summer camps still does the program in the summer, so you might still see it running if you go during that time.

It had nothing to do with safety concerns. And was simply a business decision.
