Survivor Vanuatu - Thread

Sorry, I AM a little behind in this, but where exactly is Vanuatu?

mmausse - as far as Vanuatu - I have never heard of it either. This is what I have found:

Located: Oceania, group of islands in the South Pacific Ocean, about three-quarters of the way from Hawaii to Australia . It is a Y shaped chain of 4 main islands & 80 smaller islands, about 65 of which are inhabited. The whole area is slightly larger than Connecticut.

Climate: tropical; The South-East Trade Winds that discouraged early attempts at European colonisation prevail over the islands and are responsible for much of their weather. The wet season falls from November to April and dumps more than 4m (more than 13ft) of rain annually in some places. Many tour groups from Australia go for their Christmas holidays during the wet season, but the cool, evening sea breezes generally save them from taking a long walk off a short pier. During the dry season, Vanuatu enjoys sunny days and mild, spring-like weather. The cyclone season is December to March, with possibilities for wild weather a few months on either side of that. The winds are generally more unruly during the wet season than the dry, and cyclones can hit any island.

Natural hazards: tropical cyclones or typhoons (January to April); volcanism causes minor earthquakes; tsunamis

Major Industry is agriculture (copra, timber, beef, cocoa, coffee)

Vast tracts of Vanuatu's forests have been preserved from commercial logging, mainly because the terrain is too rough and the grades too steep to make it economically viable. The forest is typical of the western Pacific, and includes giant banyan trees and kauri pines as well as isolated stands of sandalwood that survived the 19th century obsession for it. Some of the more mountainous islands are cloaked in almost impenetrable forest from the shoreline to the highest peaks, and over 150 plant species of the more than 1000 so far identified are endemic. Coconut trees and plantations are common throughout the archipelago.

The survivors were in HAVANNAH HARBOUR, Efate Island, Vanuatu from 6/1/04-8/7/04 according to the notice to mariners by the Vanuatu Maritime Authority - Vanuatu Mobile Force.

We're so excited for this to start! When Belle was in K, her teacher's son shipped out to Vanuatu in the Peace Corps for 2 years. Belle had the same teacher for 1st grade, and she visited there that summer, so the class learned a lot about the people and culture. It's very rustic--where the guy was, they had to take a boat to get to an island with a phone, and he was known as "the white American". So, being Survivor fans to begin with, and knowing the tiny country it's located in this time, it should be really fun to watch.

That's really interesting about the guy who lost a leg--it doesn't sound like it's going to hinder him much. On the other hand, I think the woman who was voted out absolutely first on the first Survivor was also a cancer survivor (name escapes me at this point). But, she also brought a ukelele as her luxury item, so I would have voted her off on principle.

My boys just told me about this new Survivor today..........hope we get it around the same time as you guys do........I love Survivor::yes::

Vanautu is a South Pacific Island...........not too far from Fiji

I've been there & it's quite nice::yes::

Thanks for starting this...Can't wait for Survivor. Here we go.

Count me in as another person who can't wait!

I liked when they did the girls vs. guys last time. Honestly, I'd watch any version of survivor.

Gotta set Tivo!

Thanks for starting this thread. Does anyone know when they will start the Fantasy League? I want to join if and when it starts.

I was supposed to take a course on Thursday evenings but I'm having surgery in 2 weeks and will not be able to attend a class this semester - that's too bad! ;) I guess I'll have to stay home and watch Survivor!:bounce:

What is survivor???? feel not included in this.... will we be able to watch in Britain??? example sky 1.. etc.. for instance... i know we get your big brother on E4 ??? but never watched Survivor... what is it about???

I am the biggest survivor fan- completely obsessed. I'm counting down the days til this one starts. It looks like it should be interesting. I also heard on the radio that they were dropping them off on top of a volcano. Also there's a lot of different names. No Robs this time;)

Survivor is an American show that pre-dates Big Brother, so my guess is you would have come across it by now if it was in the UK. This will be the 9th round, 1st premiering in the summer of 2000.

16 (usually) contestants are left basically stranded on an island (usually) and divided into tribes who have to work together to win challenges and keep from going to tribal council where the losing tribe must vote off one member. They also compete for reward challenges such as food and amenities like toothpaste and shampoo.

Once they are down to 10 contestants (usually) they two tribes merge into one and the challneges then become individual, with one person winning immunity from the vote or one person winning the reward. At the end, with two survivors remaining, the last nine voted out decide who deserves to be awarded a million dollars and the title of sole survivor.

Can't wait. I told my supervisor at the hospital I am no longer available on Tuesday nights (Amazing Race night) or Thursday nights (Survivor). I did take on another job in a Day Spa during the day so I am FREE, FREE, FREE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I will NEVER miss another episode again!

While Survivor is more popular in the United States, Big Brother actually is much more popular in the UK and Europe.

We have a local woman in this competition...I will pull for her if she is likeable. I cannot wait. I LOVE survivor!

We can't wait either! It sounds like it is going to be an interesting season! It's fun watching Rupert's commerical,he sounds a bit different to us! I don't know maybe his voice just sounds a little bit deeper or something. We're not all that good at picking the winners! Seems the nice ones always get booted off!

My co-workers are starting a Survivor pool and they won't let me in....I know too much!

Can't wait! I love the beginning of a new season when you're trying to figure out who you're going to love to hate! It's usually apparent by the second show who the snake in the grass is going to be.:smooth:

This is sure interesting.

Why do you think this is interesting? I have known about it for a while now. I never brought it up, because I don't think its that big of a deal.

Might be interesting to see how the other women of the tribe act, and then the men when they merge the tribes, when they find out, just to see if anyone freaks out or not.

But if no one had a real problem with a naked Richard in the first season, then I really don't see a problem with them, I think they might even keep their clothes on. Unlike Jenna and Heidi who were always looking for a reason to take theirs off. (peanutbutter and chocolate anyone?
