Trish had an interesting interview on the Early Show today. She was very upbeat, a very good sport about everything she said.
ES: When you got voted off last night, did you have any idea it was going to be you?
Trish: No.
ES: Not a clue?
Trish: No. It was a shocker and that's what I loved about it, though. I mean, I just love that. I just, that it was, you know, it was flipped around and that's the game and way to go for them.
ES: Here's the thing. We're watching last night, you pop up in the show and you say, "Who's that, oh, that's Trish, she's flying under the radar. She's in perfect position." Why did you stick your neck out and say, "Let's go after Rupert?"
Trish: Well, the bottom line was, we were all starting to feel really uncomfortable with Rupert for at least two or three days. And I love Rupert, I really like him a lot. His whole strategy of being the man for everybody was great when it was just the Drake Tribe. But I would hope that if I went over to the Morgans and I started talking about everybody to Morgan and then I won the challenge for Morgan and then a Morgan came over and I gave them our rice, I would hope that Rupert would raise his hand and, I know he would, and say, "Wait a second, when the merge comes, Trish is going to go all the way to the end." And I think we all started to feel like none of us are going to have a chance for the million dollars. And, you know, I left two kids all summer long for one thing and that's the million dollars.
ES: You were going to take your chance.
Trish: Yeah. And we all sort of felt that way.
Then they went to callers.
Caller: Why did you lie during tribal council when Jeff asked you point blank if you had prior knowledge of your tribe wanting to get rid of Rupert?
Trish: Well, I don't remember Jeff saying it like that. I remember him saying what do you think when Rupert said these things about how the tribe is split in half and people didn't want him to go to the end and that was surprising to me because I didn't know, I didn't think Rupert was told anything. So, I was really surprised to hear that. I didn't know that at all.
Caller: When plotting to vote someone off the tribe, didn't you know that Sandra wasn't on your side?
Trish: You know, that's a good question. Sandra's strategy was as long as it wasn't her, she would do anything. She would go with anybody.
ES: She's a good player.
Trish: And the funny thing was, Sandra, Rupert had sort of come up with a little bit of this alliance scheme, which I won't go into, but, he left Sandra and I out of it. And for three weeks Rupert and Christa and I, I just love them, we were really close, and when Rupert came up with that scheme, Sandra looked at me and I looked at Sandra and Sandra was like, "Well, what are we, chopped liver, Trish?" So Sandra was very comfortable with the whole thing.
Caller: How did you feel when Rupert pulled the rug out from under you last night?
Trish: Well, you know what, I said, "Way to go." I was really surprised, as you can tell, because as I said, for the past couple of days the whole tribe had problems with Rupert that they didn't show. And the ironic thing was, in the end, Sandra said, "Trish, are you in or are you out?" and I was really the one in the end that hesitated. And so I said, "Yeah, I'm in." And Rupert pulled it around and that's the way to play the game.
ES: It's so hard to judge from our distance at home. I'm thinking, if I'm going to try to ride on somebody's coattails, or behind somebody's sail, it's going to be Rupert's sail, and certainly not Jon or Shawn. Why wouldn't you go against those guys as opposed to going against Rupert?
Trish: Well, because they just didn't have the kind of power that Rupert had. I mean, you had to have been there to see his, you know, we would be at challenges and Rupert would look over to Morgan and tell them that he loved them. And Andrew comes to take the rice and he says this is a friendship trade, it's not a looting. And you'll notice that we never took Morgan's food. We never did. And then Rupert made a deal behind our backs with Andrew to take our rice. And we were all so shocked.
Then they show her family, two adorable daughters, and she says she had a great time being on Survivor and that's the end.
