Survivor: Pearl Islands *OFFICIAL THREAD*

I agree that that was probably in Andrew's head tonight. Jon is the least sportsmanlike player I've seen on that show...nothing to do with strategy, its the gloating like he did at Morgan. Just can't do something and let it go, he's got to announce it to the world.

Andrew did great tonight. Did anyone notice his legs? My god they were strong looking! Obviously that helped.

After council Jon looked like he realized his position for the first time. He voted for Rupert and all the others did not. The cheese stands alone.

As to why the other tribe has kept Osten so long, this baffles me. Apparently all they see is his muscles, and yet he has lost each strength competition.

Not for nothing but Osten reminds me of those guys at the gym that work out all the time and have big muscles, but can't actually use them except for lifting.

Just found this thread. Hello to all!!

I'm SO happy that Rupert is safe for now. Jon is a weazle(sp?) and needs to go next.

I think Andrew is absolutely adorable and I hope he goes far in this game!! Osten is just a waste of time for that tribe.

faithinkarma, Still laughing at "the cheese stands alone."

Go Rupert!! It's kinda scary to root for someone this much because you know what happens to the most deserving......Oh well, maybe this time the good guy will finish first! Can't wait 'til next week!

Has anyone here seen the rumors on some of the Survivor sites about some voted off people coming back as another team somehow? I don't see how this could work with the timing and all but bringing someone back somehow would be interesting.

Planogirl,
I've read those speculations about old team mates returning to the tribes, too.

On next week's preview did you hear Jeff tell the tribes that their past has come back to them? I wonder if that means that all or at least one of the old tribe members will indeed come back.

Trish lying at Tribal Council to Rupert's face..... lady you didn't know it - but you were already halfway down the plank - your comments just ensured that you would be taking the plunge.

I have to admit that Andrew impressed me big time!::yes:: I think he felt so bad about blowing the Reward Challenge and then Jon infuriated him with the comment about Drake throwing the IM challenge, so he was determined to win that challenge. And Christa - wow- what a great lady she was - enduring all of that weight. Why, oh, why wasn't Jon up there holding weight instead of her??

Yes, Planogirl, I've heard those rumors, too. I wonder if the next episode will have that twist; Jeff said in the previews that 'your past comes back to haunt you'. Hmmmm.....

A friend of mine and I were discussing which survivor we disliked the most; Jon or Osten. I made the comment to her that Jon was surfacely annoying, like a misquito, but Osten was like a cancer, just eating away at the tribe. I'd like to see one or the other of them go next episode.

Why, oh, why wasn't Jon up there holding weight instead of her??
I wondered that myself, especially with Morgan having three guys in the challenge. Maybe Drake felt that Christa is actually stronger than Jon.

As for the return of former tribe members, the most logical explanation I have head is that they will come back for just the challenge, not to stay around. They might just be there to act as spoilers.

Oh my---when they were talking about voting off Rupert last night, I was about ready to cry! Thank goodness it was Trish (even tho I have her on my fantasy team). The look on Jon's face was priceless!! :teeth: I hope Jon gets what's coming to him and he's the next one to go.

I haven't been too sure about Christa, but after the challenge last night, YOU GO GIRL! I couldn't believe she held all that weight! And Andrew - boy, he's not bulky like Rupert and Osten, but he has the strength.

Ok, my picks for the winner: Rupert, with Andrew as runner up.

DS and I picked up on Jeff's comment for next week: "Your past comes back to haunt you." We, too, agree that one or more of the tribe members voted off will come back. How about a twist - they come back as members of the OTHER tribe! That might make things interesting............

Gotta go to the Survivor website and trade away Trish. Who should I choose? I'm thinking Tijuana.

Last night....WOW....my 4 kids were cheering at the end when Rubert stayed.....

Savage was amazing...talk about mind over matter.....that was purely mind strength.....

Jon and or Osten have got to go........both are deterimental(sp) to the tribes....

"Your past comes back to haunt you."

For some reason, this sounds familiar, like Jeff has said it before on another Survivor. Possibly maybe a challenge made up of several different challenges, untying knots, swimming, putting puzzles together, etc. Bringing back voted off members would be cool but how would it come to haunt them? There really hasn't been anyone voted off that has really been real upset that I can think of at the moment. Rupert already knows the dynamics of the Morgan tribe, so it would only benefit Morgan to get the scoop on Drake. Maybe thats what he meant.

I can only hope he's the next one to go!!

Did you see Jon's face when trish got boted out? I think he realized that he threw his chips in with the wrong side and he could be next. I guess it depends if the merge happens before or after the next tribal council.

And I agree about Shawn's comments. I was so sure that meant he was voting for Rupert. I don't get what his comment meant now that we know he voted for Trish.

Gotta admit, Trish was gracious in losing.

We talked about the possiblity earlier in the thread about one of the voted off survivors coming back. At that time, I think a lot of people thought it would be Lil.

Wasn't last night's episode supposed to be the one with the "big lie"? If it was, I missed it. What lie was that? Trish's lie at council wasn't big enough to have the kind of effects that the show hinted at.

Did you see Jon's face when trish got booted out?

Did you hear Rupert's reaction in the scenes from next week's show when Jon admitted casting a vote for him at tribal council?

We were so afraid for Rupert too and cheered when it was Trish! I always liked Trish though, and don't really blame her for trying to make a move. I mean how many times have we "talked" here when someone we liked was voted off and said they should have tried to form an alliance or do something to help themselves. Trish seemed really nice on the Early Show and they showed her twin girls and husband also.

I really wish we could see more of what they film of the Survivors. Trish was talking about stuff that happened that wasn't aired, that everyone on the tribe was upset by Rupert and had been for awhile. But it was cute when she said at challenges Rupert would look at the Morgan tribe and say he loved them!!!

We loved the whole thing with the pelican!!! Ryan and Rupert are cut from the same cloth with their love for animals. Osten can sharpen that blade all he wants but I doubt he'd ever be brave enough to get close to that bird to ever kill it. What a wimp!

And I agree about Shawn's comments. I was so sure that meant he was voting for Rupert. I don't get what his comment meant now that we know he voted for Trish.

I think he knows Rupert won't turn on him if he supports Rupert right now...which would almost guarantee he will stay around until a merge....I figure Jon will be next and then Sandra...Rupert would be totally loyal to Christa and Shawn...IMHO

Trish had an interesting interview on the Early Show today. She was very upbeat, a very good sport about everything she said.

ES: When you got voted off last night, did you have any idea it was going to be you?

Trish: No.

ES: Not a clue?

Trish: No. It was a shocker and that's what I loved about it, though. I mean, I just love that. I just, that it was, you know, it was flipped around and that's the game and way to go for them.

ES: Here's the thing. We're watching last night, you pop up in the show and you say, "Who's that, oh, that's Trish, she's flying under the radar. She's in perfect position." Why did you stick your neck out and say, "Let's go after Rupert?"

Trish: Well, the bottom line was, we were all starting to feel really uncomfortable with Rupert for at least two or three days. And I love Rupert, I really like him a lot. His whole strategy of being the man for everybody was great when it was just the Drake Tribe. But I would hope that if I went over to the Morgans and I started talking about everybody to Morgan and then I won the challenge for Morgan and then a Morgan came over and I gave them our rice, I would hope that Rupert would raise his hand and, I know he would, and say, "Wait a second, when the merge comes, Trish is going to go all the way to the end." And I think we all started to feel like none of us are going to have a chance for the million dollars. And, you know, I left two kids all summer long for one thing and that's the million dollars.

ES: You were going to take your chance.

Trish: Yeah. And we all sort of felt that way.

Then they went to callers.

Caller: Why did you lie during tribal council when Jeff asked you point blank if you had prior knowledge of your tribe wanting to get rid of Rupert?

Trish: Well, I don't remember Jeff saying it like that. I remember him saying what do you think when Rupert said these things about how the tribe is split in half and people didn't want him to go to the end and that was surprising to me because I didn't know, I didn't think Rupert was told anything. So, I was really surprised to hear that. I didn't know that at all.

Caller: When plotting to vote someone off the tribe, didn't you know that Sandra wasn't on your side?

Trish: You know, that's a good question. Sandra's strategy was as long as it wasn't her, she would do anything. She would go with anybody.

ES: She's a good player.

Trish: And the funny thing was, Sandra, Rupert had sort of come up with a little bit of this alliance scheme, which I won't go into, but, he left Sandra and I out of it. And for three weeks Rupert and Christa and I, I just love them, we were really close, and when Rupert came up with that scheme, Sandra looked at me and I looked at Sandra and Sandra was like, "Well, what are we, chopped liver, Trish?" So Sandra was very comfortable with the whole thing.

Caller: How did you feel when Rupert pulled the rug out from under you last night?

Trish: Well, you know what, I said, "Way to go." I was really surprised, as you can tell, because as I said, for the past couple of days the whole tribe had problems with Rupert that they didn't show. And the ironic thing was, in the end, Sandra said, "Trish, are you in or are you out?" and I was really the one in the end that hesitated. And so I said, "Yeah, I'm in." And Rupert pulled it around and that's the way to play the game.

ES: It's so hard to judge from our distance at home. I'm thinking, if I'm going to try to ride on somebody's coattails, or behind somebody's sail, it's going to be Rupert's sail, and certainly not Jon or Shawn. Why wouldn't you go against those guys as opposed to going against Rupert?

Trish: Well, because they just didn't have the kind of power that Rupert had. I mean, you had to have been there to see his, you know, we would be at challenges and Rupert would look over to Morgan and tell them that he loved them. And Andrew comes to take the rice and he says this is a friendship trade, it's not a looting. And you'll notice that we never took Morgan's food. We never did. And then Rupert made a deal behind our backs with Andrew to take our rice. And we were all so shocked.

Then they show her family, two adorable daughters, and she says she had a great time being on Survivor and that's the end.

kbeverina, thanks SO much for posting that! I always miss the Early Show interview, that was interesting.

Okay, some thoughts on the show. I think Trish's fatal mistake was misreading Sandra. She seems convinced that Sandra was completely on board with booting Rupert, but last night it seemed to me that Sandra looked uncomfortable with the idea. I don't know if they edited that in or it was genuine and Trish misread Sandra or was misled by her during other discussions. Could be that Sandra is a true master manipulator or could be that Trish isn't good at reading people and she was the one actually initiating conversations about Rupert and Sandra was just going along, trying not to make waves with Trish.

I was surprised that the callers seemed so critical of the play that Trish made--I think she was doing the smart thing, it just backfired, either because, again, Sandra is a great actress or she misread Sandra's feelings. Remember when Theresa in Survivor Africa was trying to convince people to vote off Ethan because he was so likeable and no one would vote against him in the final vote? Rupert's in a bad spot right now because he does have a good shot at winning and once there's a merge that will guide the voting.

Rupert is really going to have to rely on a strong alliance that won't vote him out out of loyalty. I think he's purposely choosing people who would choose loyalty over money--he's counting on that.

I think Trish won't reveal Rupert's scheme because it must somehow come into play later on. It must involve friendships with Morgans.

One thing that keeps coming up, but they never showed--they've talked about Rupert talking about everybody to the Morgans. Did that happen or did the Morgans somehow tell the Drakes that or imply that to the Drakes? Because that's what I'd be doing if I were the Morgans and they came to loot--make them turn against Rupert and vote him off. That's what I kept thinking was going to be the "big lie".

There's a reason they're not showing the conflicts with Rupert, though, and the tribe's feelings against him--they would have used that to make us think he was getting voted off if they didn't have another reason not to use it. So I wonder why they didn't show some of the dissension.

BedKnobbery2--you're welcome! Courtesy of TiVo, it's nice to be able to pause and get the quotes. Trish's was definitely one of the more interesting interviews.
