Carry apple ale onboard?

I don’t love traditional beer, but I do like Redd’s Apple ale. It is indeed an ale/beer per their website. So can I bring this on as my 6 beer entitlement? Has anyone done this?

It is going to be a crapshoot depending on which member of security reviews it. Some are sticklers where it if it doesn't say 'beer' on the can/bottle, it isn't beer and you lose it. Then there are others that don't care as long as it's just 6 per passenger over 21 (or 18 for Down Under) and are not over 12oz.

The bottles do say “ale”. Ale being a type of beer. Is this sufficient?

The worst case scenario is that the ale is confiscated and you're out the cost of 6 bottles. I agree with other posters that you'll probably be fine.

My family has never had problems bringing on cider instead of beer (mom is gluten free and hard cider is tastier than gluten free beer options by a long shot).

You should be okay. As previously noted, it's up to whoever's screening your stuff on how strictly to interpret the policy. If it says "ale" on it, you should be okay, as in my experience the screeners don't look that closely. If it looks like a six-pack of beer and says ale, you're probably good (as opposed to say, a box of white claws as that's obviously not beer). But, I'd be prepared as there's a small chance it might be confiscated if you get a stickler.
