Survivor All Star OFFICIAL THREAD!

And this is why I'm not even going to watch on Thursday! I know I'm in the minority, but I am so NOT on the Rupert love train. He just annoys me and seems very condescending and I can't take an hour of him in tye dye, listening to him roar.

I think Rob did deserve to win - he did play the game the best. I think lying and backstabbing are all part of the game and the other players (mainly Lex & Tom) were way to emotional.

I totally agree! I think people get caught up in the whole popularity contest and forget about what the game is all about. OUTWIT! OUTLAST!! OUTPLAY! I don't think Rupert did any of these things.

One of the reasons I voted for Tom, even though I didn't always agree with some of his playing decisions, is because of how far he made it in both Survivors he was on. A third-place finish and a fifth-place finish is the best all-around finish of anyone, I believe. I figured he played well enough to stick around a long time twice. That may be because of alliances, but that's part of the game.

I think Rupert should win because he played a very honest game in both Survivors. He is also the only person who played 2 games back to back. All the other players had at least a year to become their 'normal' selves. He only had months.::yes::

If you think "Outwit, Outlast and Out Play" means "Out Cheat, Out Lie and Out Screw" your other tribemates then he definitely would not win. It is sad in a way that the most deceitful person is the one who wins the prize. Really doesn't say much for today's society. :earseek:

I don't think it says anything about our society, because it is a game. JMHO, but I agree with Richard Hatch, not Lex. It is a game, it is not life. :D

Exactly!!!

Well said, always quiet!

::yes:: I do agree.

I do believe as Richard said it is a game it is not life, but these are real people, not actors playing a character and real emotions are involved. I voted for Rupert, as Always quiet said "He played a very honest game in both survivors" and this is the type of person I would like to see win Survivor. JMO.

Count me on board with this assessment.

Just think about it...what is basically being said is that there will be a contest to see who can lie and cheat and deceive and backstab the most, and for performing these acts we will reward the one who did it best with a million bucks.

How many people have said in there that they watch Survivor with their kids? What do we tell them? It is okay to lie and worse when it is just a game?

And this time around, I don't care what anyone says, a lot of these people were FRIENDS outside the game! More than just a hello at Survivor functions...phone calls, get togethers at each other's homes etc (I am talking about what I read about Lex, Kathy and Rob BEFORE the game even started). Of course they knew it was a game, but feelings get in the way. I don't think Richard really made friends with any of these people outside the game, so he made those comments from his perspective.

Yes, I think Lex went a bit too far with his talking (I'm not going to say whining---I have a 3 year old and hearing Lex "Talk" isn't as grating as hearing my 3 year old "Whine") but I totally see his point. I think Lex and Kathy would have been cool with being voted off before the final four if Rob had just handled things a bit differently. Perhaps if he let Shii Ann go before Lex or Kathy, feelings wouldn't have been as raw. Lex went WAY out on a limb for Rob (which he shouldn't have by the way-that I will say was a dumb move) as a friend- big brother/little brother type of favor and Rob was just like, "Gee, thanks, but doesn't matter to me anymore...buh-bye." I just know that if I played this game with my favorite coworkers who also were my friends (trying to make an analogy here- bear with me), who I went to drinks with after work, invited to my home for get togethers, talked with after hours on the phone, and did them some huge giant favor in Survivor that went way over the top, and they turned around and backstabbed me before the coworkers who were just casual acquaintances...I would have been very hurt too.

Stepping off soap box.........

With the Outscrew Outcheat and Outlie kind of logic, Johnny Fairplay would be winning the million. :sad2:

Rupert will get mega votes because people saw the good in him...he was honest, hard-working, and was a WYSIWYG kind of guy. He also had the pirate thing down when he took the shoes...one of the funnier Survivor moments. He was entertaining, and people cared about him.

That's why *I* voted for Rupert. ::yes::

A thought about tonight's show.....since there were votes for Best Villian, do you think there is any chance that "Johnny Fairplay" will be there!???!! :earseek: I hope not!!!!

I totally disagree. If it didn't fit in with Lex's plan, he would have voted Amber off in a heartbeat, regardless of what Rob said. I don't believe for one second that he did it as a "favor". It fit into his "plan" to keep Amber & that's the only reason he did it, just like when he voted off his "friend" Ethan because keeping him didn't "fit his plan" JMHO! :p

OK...now I understand why so many people are complaining about Lex's whining. You think he kept Amber for his own reasons and was just faking when he said Rob hurt him. I personally thought his hurt was genuine, but at least now I see why it annoyed others so much.

OMG! It's a game, not an honesty test.

He came pretty close to winning

I felt like this once ( or twice... or thrice!) So many times I have sworn off watching Survivor series because so many times the "good guy" was voted out and I felt it was advocating the old saying of how "good guys finish last".

I finally came to the conclusion, (in my old age) that it is a game and we have favorites and villians and not everyone plays by "our" rules. (I don't cheat when I play a game) Once I got that into my head, I can tolerate watching the show more and even enjoy it when someone like Rob gets ahead of the pack.

There is something about this show that keeps bringing me back to watch and I can't figure out what it is. Human dynamics....living out in the elements.....Jeff Probst.... I don't know what. But to keep my sanity, I have to keep realizing that it is just a game with no real rules and depending on the group of people playing that time around, some will go far with honesty and hard work and others will go far with lying and cheating.

I decided if I can't accept that, then I may as well stop watching the show.

And don't forget, not all winners have been deceitful. Ethan for one was certainly not.

Oh and thank you all for the birthday wishes. I'm wondering how you people knew and then I realized I actually wrote about it myself!

Yep, that's the first sign:tilt:

Here's my take on Survivor:

The object of the game is to get into the final 2 and then win the jury vote. Whichever player does that, thus DESERVES to win. Flying under the radar, lying, backstabbing, whatever get you to that end result IS fair in this game.

And I only came to this conclusion AFTER my disappointment when Vecepia won.
