Surprising adults with a trip - ideas?

This has a bit of a prologue, so bear with me. My parents split up when I was very young, and when I was a kid, I only saw my dad during yearly summer vacations to Florida, where we would stay in a budget motel, visit local attractions, and our big splurge - a one day ticket to either Magic Kingdom, Epcot or Universal Studios. We fell out of touch over the years until he reached out to me again when I was an adult. Even though we don't live close to each other, my two kids know him well thanks to regular FaceTime calls and annual visits when he makes the drive to come see the kids. Of course, with Covid-19, our usual visit was depressing this year, outside in a park with masks on in the spitting rain. He has a number of comorbidities that put him in the high-risk category, so he and his wife are playing it very safe. After I took the kids to WDW in 2019, he sent me some old photos of my childhood trips, and we made a game of matching them: he and I on the Peoplemover when I was little, me and my kids on the Peoplemover, etc.

Maybe it's because 2020 has made me realize how little we can take the future for granted, but I realized that I would love to treat him and his wife to a trip to WDW, once it is safe for them to go and they have received both doses of the vaccine. I can afford it, and I think it would be a lovely chance to make memories for him and for my kids. I love how accessible WDW is, and we could rent him a scooter onsite so that he could enjoy the parks comfortably (he was in a car accident several years ago that damaged his spine).

I would love some ideas for a gift that would be partway between a surprise and a proposal, since of course they would need to agree to go! I was thinking maybe Disney world T-shirts with the year of the trip and their names or "Grandpa" etc, printed on them, Magic Bands, and maybe some MK confectionary treats, along with a note asking them to join us for his birthday at the end of next year.

Has anyone here ever gifted/surprised grandparents with a trip? What did you do?

TIA!
