Let the planning begin… NEW PICTURES ADDED FROM SAT 12/12/09

So, we went on a Trip of Lifetime in September, 2008. ..we did everything! Disney, Waterparks, Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure, Seaworld, Discovery Cove…you name it. It was a totally awesome trip. The kids loved every minute of it. The grandparents were along and had a great time. Glenn, was for once totally at peace..not having people constantly calling him. And me…well, it was a lot on many different levels.

We come back and two weeks later Glenn and I are talking and he says, he thinks we should go back to Disney for another adventure next year for our vacation. Is he kidding me? It was an awesome trip but, no really he wants to go back…and soon! I finally agree and we decide if we were going to do it, we needed to allow ourselves time to plan it. This time, we would totally surprise the kids! :rotfl::lmao::cool1::rotfl2::thumbsup2

So that was it. We decided the best time would be when the kids wouldn’t be expecting it…over my Birthday in December.

We immediately began to plan out our trip. And over the next 15 months, Glenn has become known as a “Disney Dad”…you know the type who totally obsesses over Disney! Not that, that’s a bad thing…but everything revolves around Disney. Kids need clothes…we shop online at the Disney store. We go to the mall..gotta stop at the Disney Store… New Disney movie coming out…he finds out about everything online and then relays it all to us! And the DISboards…suffice to say, he is always lurking!

Boy, are the kids in for surprises! Not just the trip will be a surprise…but there will be a few more along the way! Right now, we are on the plane and Miss Erika is looking at me typing, so I can’t say what they are….but you’ll know soon enough.

The Big Reveal!!!

So we made it. 15 months, with a few near misses with the kids almost finding out…but we made it and now the trip was about to begin! It was Friday December 11, 2009. We got the kids ready and sent them on their way to school-15 months later and STILL NOT suspecting a thing. Glenn and I finished packing last minute things, the dogs were taken to the vet’s (who will board them while we are away). I went for a manicure and pedicure…almost ready…

Finally, Glenn went and picked up the kids from school. They came home and were told to take showers quickly, “so we could take the grandparents out for their 43rd Anniversary” And they did-I couldn’t believe it---no fighting, no feuding, they just did it. Austin bounced out of the shower first and worked on his homework. Erika soon followed-her hair was even dried, flat ironed and she had a small bunch pulled back-without being told to do it…wow! What was going on here! The grandparents arrived on perfect cue. For me, time was passing soooo slowly..every minute seemed like an eternity! Glenn, was Mr Cool! Slowly, he made his way and hid the video camera in the palm of his hand. That was it. I had to do my best acting ever!

I started out by saying the reason Dad and I stayed home from work today was we had decided to go shopping and we got them something and put it under the tree. They were both shy at first looking at the boxes-then Erika read aloud—“it says to be opened December 11th. I said, so open it. Both opened their boxes at the same time. The first paper, had a Mickey Santa on it and said “Surprise, we are going to Disney for Christmas” but didn’t give a whole lot of details. She ask when we were going….but I just said, what’s the next paper say. ..she started to read it…it was the Disney Commandments---which I made up and will post later on. After, reading thru the Commandments, I asked, so you wanna know when we are leaving and with a squeal from Erika and ah, “well yeah” from Austin, I threw them t-shirts we had made..they said, surprise, we are leaving for Disney right now! I don’t remember much after that, but there sure was A LOT of screaming and yelling! Yep, they were pumped! And we were off!

The grandparents dropped us off at the airport, with instructions to say hello to Goofy, Chip and Dale for them, along with 4 big bags (with an extra one being piggy backed inside another one---for extra space coming back!), 4 carry on bags, 2 computer bags, and a folder which has all pertinent information—more on that later too...oh and don't forget the partridge in a pear tree and the kitchen sink, thown in just for giggles!

We got this security thing down pat-went straight thru with every person from TSA commenting on how well behaved they were for just finding out about going to Disney an hour before. We ate at Subway…4---6 inch subs, chips and sodas for us all….$33.90---close enough to Budget (I figured $30).
The kids were incredible in the airport…perfect behavior! Made a restroom, stop, then it was an hour wait before the plane. We gave them their next surprise, New DVD’s---amongst the new DVD’s. Miley and OIis’s Christmas (a doggie movie), Jeff Dunham, Thumbelina and Ghostbusters 1 &2. Glenn mixed them up too…Erika thought she was going to be watching Thumbelina..she turned on the DVD player and Jeff Dunham started. Austin thought he was going to be watching Ghostbusters…nope Miley and Otis was playing…they were just like Christmas morning---all smiles, everything was good.

We boarded and never looked back—made the turn onto the runway and were up, likiy-split. I love flying out of small airports! No long waits here!
The plane ride-on Allegiant Air was smooth. About an hour into flight, Erika fell asleep and Austin just kept watching his new watch he got at Santa’s workshop today at school-keeping track of time and where we were at and watching the DVD. Normally it is reversed—Erika can usually stay awake and Austin is out of it! But not this time. He was going to Disney and wanted to see the lights of Orlando when we landed! And for me, I finally got a chance this trip report kicked off!

Glenn and I were amazed how smooth this trip has gotten off. I realized I only forget one thing---the sugar free flavor pouches—no biggie, we’ll pick them up at a store down there.

Sooooo for this trip report, I have decided to do a report card of sort and pictures, since that always seemed to be what helped me the most on other people’s….pictures seemingly tell exactly what is going on…I’ll post a lot more pics later on!

So, the ride to the airport in Mimi & Pappy’s “Cash Cab” aka their mini van, complete with “Red Light Challenge---and I don’t mean stepping on it Pappy to get thru the red light”--- …was an A++. When we did get to the airport, I said everyone who wants to go to Disney bail out…and of course who bails out of the mini-van first…Mimi and Pappy of course!!!

As for Thrifty Rental Car, we reserved a “Wild car” meaning we could end up with any type of car, larger than an intermediate…The woman at the counter said we got a PT Cruiser in B23-okay. When we got to B23-we found out it was a Jeep with an identity crisis…I think this thing is a Jeep Crossover. We looked at it thought, how in the world are we going to fit everything in. Now I’d like to say thanks to my Dad for being a truck drivers daughter (see Dad has drove truck for over 50+ years in the moving line industry) but in this case it was just good old fashioned push this in/pull that it in/kid move over there, no over there, sorry you can’t feel your toes…it’ll be a short ride!!! Yes, it all fit…with not an inch to spare! So for the rental car: the service at the counter-signage was a bit confusing and both Glenn ad I thought she was a bit snippy (seriously don’t try to upsell me at 11PM---B, the rental car---C (it has manual everything…and I mean everything!) and value---B for ten days the total with a full tank of gas $309---we budgeted $400 initially.

By the time we hit I-4—literally seconds out of the airport, both kids were sound asleep. And since our last quickie trip in April of this year, we bought Sunpass. It worked like a charm and scared Glenn when we went thru and it beeped---well, at least we know its working the way it’s supposed to.

We arrive at 11:40 and checked into Holiday Inn Express at Universal Studios Entrance. We got 2 rooms-adjoining. The total with tax came up to $32 per room. Awesome deal—thanks to my boss Greg! The kids went right up to the room and were out again in seconds—no arguing on this trip! Meanwhile, I realized I had packed my cosmetic case in a piece of checked baggage, thanks to TSA regulations…so back down I went. Unloaded the car to find it, reloaded the car and got the kids their next surprise for morning…new personalized fanny packs! Walking back to the front door of the hotel, I got robbed!!!! :scared1:Some dumb_ _ _ hits me up for a few bucks so he can “go to the bar”…are you kidding me, my native American came out and I went on the warpath…Tiger Woods Wife, Elin has nothing on me!!!! :lmao: Now I didn’t kill the guy or even leave battle wounds…but I did my best psycho impression..and he left running down the street!!! :rotfl2: He, he, he!!! Dumb _ _ _!

So the hotel…it’s a relaunched Holiday Inn Express…cleanliness…B, Front Desk Customer Service…a D-…Yes folks, Glenn had to calm me down on this one…I’m not sure if this was a bad policy, a poorly trained front desk agent or if it was just it was almost midnight and he didn’t care but no doubt a solid D-…and as for value, A+…really how can you complain at a $29 rate per room!

So overall for the day of the surprise…an A-…a few minor hiccups…but certainly off to one of best starts! :goodvibes:thumbsup2:cool1:popcorn::

Next up, Saturday December 12th and time for serious coasters, the Macy's Thanksgiving parade (I have always wanted to see), a Christmas concert and oh yeah, coasters! It should be great now that Austin is tall enough to ride the big boy coasters! :lmao: Huh…I wonder if he’ll ask the question Erika did…Dad, I wanna get off—Glenn’s reply…I don’t think you can do that right now!

It's Saturday, and I decided to sleep in...my internal alarm clock got me up at 5AM today...well, at least I can get this trip reprort thing kicked off.

I should tell you, I'm not some type of weirdo who's on vacation and has a sick sense of getting up at stangely early hours...In everyday life, I commute from PA to NJ to work and I typically get up around 4:30 or 5...and now as I am "moving into my older years" just find it hard to turn off that internal alarm clock....even when on vacation! So my updates will probably be in the mornings, before we leave for the parks!

Get some coffee :surfweb:and enjoy the ride. We are LIVE from Disney!!!! :cheer2:

And finally I don't have to do this for ten whole days....:laundy: :cool1:

Commandments of thy Disney Trip…what would any trip be without a few rules!!!:thumbsup2

1./ Thy will listen to Dad and Wendi and do what they say!
2./ Thy will be NICE and POLITE at all times!
Take off your hat in a restaurant, open doors, ask to help, not sure…wait to be told!
Other examples: always say: please, thank you, may I…let older people go first!
3./ Thy will not whine, complain, be purposefully annoying or ask stupid questions
For example-don’t ask 10 times over, “Are we gonna ride Rock n’ Roller Coaster?” Duh! Yeah, we’ll ride all the popular rides…as long as the waits aren’t too long!!!
4./ Thy will be partner for the whole day—ride rides together, sit together, etc…
Remember when in the restroom with your partner-wait in the restroom Don’t go away from the entrance-make sure you are visible to everybody else with us!
5./ Thy will remember the order: Wendi, Wendi’s partner, Dad’s partner, Dad…
Why that order? Old people always go first & we always save the best for last!!!
6./ Thy will lose the attitude, bossy-ness, mouth and anything else bad!
Remember Dad and Wendi will make the decisions this trip…we don’t want to send ya’ home early! And Don’t forget; A bad minute in Disney, is a minute you’ll never get back!
7./ Thy will be told at the beginning of the day…general plans for the day---
Seriously…don’t ask after we leave the resort & don’t ask what we are doing next? Stuff!
8./ Thy will break bread when thy are told to do…so you don’t get hungry later!
Eat what comes with your order…We may not be eating at your “normal” times!
Don’t waste time poking around…wouldn’t you rather be back on the rides!
From Dec 17th (think Wendi’s Birthday) onward, you MUST TRY (1 scoop rule) one new food at Lunch and Dinner
Only 1sugar drink per day---this includes soda, lemonade, fruit punch, Gatorade or Powerade…don’t ask and don’t forget! Got it, good, I thought you were smart!
You may have as many water or water & Sugar Free flavored pouches as you want
9./ Did we go over rule number 1. Any questions???
10/ Thy will: will wake up daily at 7AM, brushy thy teeth & thy hair, washy thy face, feedith thy belly sometin’ and be ready to go by 7:30AM.Put on your fanny pack with: Cell Phone on, Camera, Water, Flavored pouches, Autograph book and Marker! Think…Rope Drop awaits!
11./ Thy will have fun together, carry this list with you in your pocket and did I mention, when in doubt, or if you forget---refer to rule # 1!
So are you ready to go????????????????????????

Folks, yesterday was long!!! 90% of the day wwe had A++ times and experiences--the parks are empty-waits were short, weather couldn't have been better. By evening, checking into Old Key West, unpacking and eating at Downtown Disney-Earl of Sandwich...we were all getting wiped and the day went down hill. Lesson learned--we need to back off some activities...Another day, another trip. We left the kids sleep in later this morning...in the meatime, I took some time to myself at 4AM and hit out our in room Jacuzzi (Yes, I know, finally after 3 trips to OKW in really nice villa's---I made it too the jacuzzi!!!)

I'll type more later. Today its Universal Studios, Downtown Disney and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party:santa::cheer2:

Just found your trip report. Congrats on pulling off the big surprise. That sounds so awesome. I wish I could do something like that. I told my daughter 8 months in advance and have to hear about it everyday. Can't wait to hear about the rest of the trip!

I love, love, love, picture reports. I almost fell off the chair with the "Man-ly Photo #1). :rotfl: :rotfl2:

So it was like this, we were at Downtown Disney at the Christmas Store. Glenn wanted to get us all personalized stockings. He and Austin were going thru the store and Erika and I were looking at how they made the Mickey Head Christmas Balls. I said they were neat and it was pretty cool that you could even get your balls personalized for $3...

I didn't realize anyone was near us, until a man started cracking up hysterically about just how funny what I had said so matter of factly...and after thinking about it a second or two, I was like...oh my god!!:rotfl2:

All I can say is ever since then, all converations have revolved aorund balls!!!

We just got back from Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party---rode Big Thunder Mountian Railroad and Splash Mountain at almost midnight and just got back to Old Key West.

Pictures will follow...long day! Shorter night ahead!:sad2:

Next up DFTW-Site Inspection, Meeting with Misty Miotto Photographer and Epcot---Candleight Processional
