Surprise announcement update!

Marketing sure is working because it's getting a ton of us to watch a NYE show we'd normally not bother watching. smart

I'm not planning on watching. I'll just keep my eye on the Dis! :thumbsup2

Besides I'm with those who think it'll be a pretty disappointing announcement.

EDITOR’S NOTE 12/30: The big surprise to be announced on Dick Clark's New Years Eve show is the gimmicky 24 hour bi-coastal party on Leap Year Day this Feb in the parks, plus more WDW discounts and a continuation of the Memories campaign. Meanwhile, Disneyland is managing massive crowds this week with daily phased closures and forcing the overflow into DCA with complimentary parkhopper upgrades. Between Christmas and New Years Days, Disneyland Resort is heading to a park attendance tally near 750,000 visitors, a new record. - Al Lutz

I'm renting points in 2 weeks and have tickets so I'm hoping for something 'disappointing' :)

eta: Yes, a "24 hour bi-coastal party on Leap Year Day" will do.

Suddenly, falling asleep on the couch (with the TV on any channel but Dick Clark) before midnight is looking better and better. *yawn*

Ooh - I was just reading Miceage too and saw this: "An offshoot of this growing Niche Revenue Markets program is also partly behind a current plan to offer a 24 hour long party at Disneyland for Leap Year Day at the end of this February. While they will market the Leap Year Party at Disneyland widely, they fully expect that a big chunk of the party guests will be Annual Passholders for this publicity stunt."
I was hoping that if the info about Disneyland was being thrown around so casually that surely that couldn't also be the big WDW NYE announcement. Guess I was wrong :(

Hoped it would be an announcement about the badly needed and long overdue fifth gate........... couldn't be more off the mark apparently if the 24 hour party post is true.
Epic Fail Disney.

If that is what all this hype is about then I will surely be laughing!!! After all of us getting so excited! Now I watched the video on the website and the clock hands move around but it is always daytime. I thought for sure that if it had to do with nighttime, then it would've shown the clockhands and it being dark out but I guess that would've given it totally away.

OK, here's my best, completely unfounded, shot at this.

It won't be one day added to your ticket. That's just nutty since it's only worth $8 to most folks. They did far better with the birthday and the give a day promotions. That would not make a difference in staffing levels when the announcement is made.

My guess is that if you make a minimum length stay between now and whatever cutoff date they choose for the promotion, you will get a full value, upgradeable ticket redeemable once the Fantasyland Expansion is done. I also think they will give a better timeline for when that will be. That value would be around $90. Or you could choose the special fastpass option like with the other promotions.

Stay tuned...............

Okay, so here's my completely unfounded, yet intriguing thought...

I say, for those who (in 2012) book a package meeting certain criteria (or maybe even tickets meeting a certain criteria), that they will give a voucher good for a one day ticket when the Fantasyland expansion is completed... or at least in 2013. Something like that. Any park could qualify for receiving the voucher... Disneyland, WDW, Paris, Tokyo...

Again, totally, unfounded with absolutely no sources other than my active imagination.

Oh, and the reason for it is that they will continue to fill the park during the annoying construction. Lots of people may be putting off their next visit until the expansion is complete. This way, they can entice people to come this year with the carrot of a down payment towards next year.

:wizard:

Great minds must think alike, MOM2rtk. I posted a similar guess several days ago (Post #s 125 and 126 as quoted above) . Don't you wish that would be the case. I think this would a great incentive to have people make two trips. Alas, it may not be but I do think it would be exciting.

Perhaps this is me just being hopeful, but it just sounds like "One More Disney Day" is they're 2012 Slogan... and that, for the announcement to be during this nationally televised New Year's party, it would have to be bigger (at least more applicable) to more of the target audience.

So, yeah, maybe they will be announcing a 24-hr party of sorts, but aren't children/families the main demographic? I know my family doesn't even last for the midnight magic hours... how would we last all night?

Fingers-crossed that there is an added benefit... an extra night and an extra park ticket... 'cause the 24-hr party just seems to really miss the bar.

Sorry if I'm missing something that's right infront of me but I'm wondering IF it's going to be Magic Kingdom opening for 24 hours how would they do it exactly?

If it was going to be open for 24 hours on the 29th Feb, let's say, opening at 8am and obviously closing at 8am March 1st (next day), what would be the opening times on March 1st? 9am? No way could they have the park fully cleaned up and ready to re-open the gates in just 1 hour surely?
I just don't see how they could do it, unless they closed most of the park off at say 3am to be able to clean leaving say, just tomorrow land open for the remainder so they would only have to clean that land up with an hour to spare?
Even 7am-7am doesn't leave much time for getting the park sorted for the next opening.

I also don't think it's the most appealing announcement either, just sounds as though the Cast Members are going to be in for some long, brutal shifts.

I just don't see how they would be able to pull this off , am I missing something here?

Similar to a MVMCP timing kind of thing. (Times approximate.)

Close MK at 8PM on Feb. 28.

Open MK for Party at 11PM Feb. 28.
Keep MK open until 12 Midnight on Feb. 29

I don't understand all the negativity about the party being the announcement. Stitch Kingdom posted that 2 weeks ago. This thread instead built it up like you were going to get something free. Nothing to be disappointed about except that some people let their imaginations go way too wild.
