Surprise! And a really stupid question..LOL..

Yep, 4 dozen of your signature cookie. Mine is either cranberry oatmeal or Thin Mints (DH says they are better then girl scout cookies).

I wouldn't worry about the size, all cookies are not created equally. That's what makes them special. When I make my MIL's fudge they are small because they are really really rich. Cheese straws are long but thin.

As for eating cookies from those I don't know, I'm not sure. We canceled all food related events at school because of Swine, but that's kind of a personal choice.

But what about the size of these particular cookies? Do you think I should go with something larger? :confused3

What sizes have you all seen at cookie exchanges?

I have done spritz in the past and have the correct amount, but also made more. Sorry no help here. I think it has more to do with "how" they look, meaning did they take some time, or did someone open a package add an egg and butter, then drop them from a spoon. Does that make sense? :confused3

But, I would love to have a copy of your recipe, my DH works for the public works dept and when they go in for snow storms I make cookies. Your recipie sounds like I can change it up.

Thanks

Anything you choose to take will be fine.

Definitely! These come out so pretty (I add a little decoration of my own) 9 times out of 10 people assume they came from some fancy bakery..:)

If you want to quick just dash off a PM to me now that says "Jello Spritz Butter Cookies" in the title, I'll save it in my PM box and as soon as I pull out the recipe, I'll send it to you..:santa:

Take 4 dozen of whatever cookie you like, along with copies of the recipe to share.

Don't overthink it- it's really NOT about the cookies as much as it is about socializing and getting to know your neighbors!

It sounds fun! Yes, you should go and meet your neighbors!

And as for flu, it's not spread via foods, so don't worry about that either. :goodvibes

(yes, other things can be spread by food, but the heat of baking would kill most germs, unless someone touches the cookies with dirty hands after they're baked. I would think most people would have the good sense to be extra careful with food they're giving away, especially to their neighbors!)

I think you should make your signature cookies and go!! Sounds like a lot of fun and from the way the invite was worded, it seems like they purposely invited you, your dd and your dgd! From reading your posts on here you seem like such a lovely lady who the neighbors would enjoy meeting!

I wouldn't go, because one of my neighbors is WHACKO. In other circumstancecs, yes I would! But I've done one of these before, and it's fun!

Since you and your daughter and your granddaughter were invited..would that mean that you EACH would have to bring 4 dozen cookies?..since there are all those extra people if everyone's 'relatives' got invited..in order for EVERYONE to bring home cookies, I would assume that each person going would be asked to bring 4 dozen?..I was following along quite nicely till this poster mentioned the 'purposely invited the 3 of you thing'..lol
I myself am going to a cookie exchange Thurs..there are 10 of us, each making 5 dozen..so that everyone can go home with half dozen each of 10 kinds
As to the size...some of the cookies end up larger, some smaller (like rum balls), so if I am making smaller ones, I just double the amount I am bringing
This year I am trying Lovemygoofy's White Chocolate Cranberry Oat cookies that she was kind enough to share the recipe for with me (thanks again Tina!)
Whatever you do..have fun!
Happy Holidays

Can you post the Thin Mint recipe please????

CAnn, bring 4 dozen of your spritz cookies, size isn't important. Most people will LOVE having the spritz because they are hard to make and most people don't make them. They probably aren't much smaller than the peanut butter blossom cookies or some bars that are cut up.

lynxstch--I doubt that they want 4 dozen cookies from each of them but on the same token they will be also expected to only take 4 dozen home, total.

I would go to the cookie exchange providing DH has time to bake the cookies for me--I don't bake, he does.

Can I also put in a request for the thin mint cookies? They are DH favorite girl scout cookie, and I would love to be able to make them.

In this day and age when most people do not know their neighbors I think it's nice that someone took it upon themselves to organize this!:goodvibes

I would take 4 dozen of the same kind of cookie. :)

I would say that if all three of you go you can bring just the four dozen cookies as long as you only want one tray to bring home. If your daughter wants a tray for herself (although one tray of cookies for one household seeems enough!) then I would say you need to bring more.
And as previous posters mentioned, don't forget copies of your recipe!

This sounds like a lot of fun, I wish we would do something like this in our neighborhood.

Hmmm.. Well there would be no reason for us to take home more than 4 dozen because we all live in the same house - so I'm thinking 4 dozen would be okay.. But as I said, I've never been to an "organized" cookie exchange before so maybe I should ask when I respond to the invite?? :confused3

I posted just as you were!!
