We'll be down in August/Sept, and my wife wants to try the surf lessons at TL. Can the kids and I stay and watch, or do they only let the student in during the lessons?
Also, does anyone know if these are for resort guests only, or can we book them staying offsite; I've seen some conflicting info.

Thanks in advance everyone; cowabunga!

I'm thinking of having my son take the lessons. I was told the family can watch. I also asked if we could stay in the park at opening but they said we'd need to exit and then re-enter. Have fun and don't forget your camera!:D

can come in to watch and take pictures. Might want to call and verify 407-wdw-play. My dad, brothers and I are doing this June 8th. My wife and girls are going to come later to meet us in the park. Since the park opens at 9, the lessons start at 6:30 and we are told to be there at 5:45am! Yikes! We were also told we will have to exit the park but are going to ask if we can just go to the gate and scan our passes instead of going to the back of the line. IF not I plan on dropping a bag and towel on some good chairs by the wave pool before I walk out. Hope they wont have a problem with that!

Thanks, all.

HoosierFantasia, if you remember when you get back, let us know how it was, if they let you drop your stuff before you had to "enter" again, stuff like that. We've never been to TL, or surfing, but my wife had decided at 35 it's time to start.

If you don't mind me asking...how much are Suft Lessons? That would be a great surprise for my DH for part of our anniversary trip in September......thanks.princess:

They are $125 per person. You can make resrvations 60 days in advance (maybe 90, cant remember). Its 2.5 hours with some land instruction and lots of water time. From what I have found out, you will be quite tired when you are done.
We are all in pretty good shape, never surfed, but do wakeboard a lot, so we will see.
I will be sure to post a report on here when I get back!

My dd did it last month, the rest of us (3) watched. We were never told there were restrictions on how many observed, we all had to exit and re-enter the park after the lessons to spend the day there. It's $135. I think there were about 12 surfers, 1/2hour of instruction on the land, then each surfer takes 2 rides each turn, 10 rides total, so you're not in the water the whole time. It was pretty chilly on land at that hour, but they bring out a big heater you can stand by to warm up. The instructors were great, I highly recommend it. My dd still had plenty of energy left afterwards, but then again, she's only 10 yrs old!

HEy Laurabelle,
when you had to re-enter TL did they make you go to the back of the line (if there was one) or did they just scan your passes and let you right back in before the masses waiting?

Bill

There wasn't a line...not sure why, people were coming in, maybe they put us through a line that just opened up. So they scanned our PHPs and we went right back in. They do encourage you to drop a towel on a chair on your way out, so you have 1st dibs!

Sweet! I was planning on trying to do this on some good chairs with some shade. I am glad they don't care, even encourage it.
Glad to hear it, thanks laurabelle

My DD12 and myself took a trip last fall to WDW. We stayed 8 days on site followed by Disney Cruise.
We did the (or rather I should say she took) surf lessons at TL. We arrived early- sleepy headed- and w/ video camera in tow. PLEASE bring your video camera- even though we are from Newport Beach, CA she has never surfed. The staff was terrific and I got a thrill watching my daughter surf successfully. I ran down the "beach" to get her board for her and loved every second of it. We stayed when the park opened and had a great time. I edited the surfing /Ramones and Joan Jett music- I love it - even though she won't let me show her friends.

Thanks, everyone, we'll be 90 days out this week, so I'm going to jump on this and get those lessons for my wife as an anniversary present.

Thanks everyone.
