Surf and Turf Disney Style…..30 days of food on land and at sea! 06/16 WPE

Do they not have the brunch on the sea day? Or is that earlier? When we toured Palo, there was a guy who said, yes they have brunch on the 4 days and higher cruises, but maybe he meant high tea. iI think I wold prefer brunch....did high tea cost the same?

Yes, Jennifer, they DO offer brunch on sea days.
I think the earliest it starts is 10.30 and the latest is 12.30. We went to Brunch on another one of our back to back cruises. ;)

High tea, brunch and dinner all cost the same - $20 per person. We have never done the tea before (but had been to brunch and dinner several times), so when we got the chance we just booked it. :goodvibes

Hi Karin :goodvibes

It's just coming up to 4pm in England (traditional tea time!) so it's very apt that I have just read a review of your High Tea - I am off to put the kettle on right now

If you are ever in London you should go to afternoon tea at Claridges Hotel, they have a wonderful menu of tea to select from

Hope you enjoyed your tea too! ;)

So Claridges offers afternoon tea? Is that Gordon Ramsay's restaurant that offers it?
If so ........ I need to book a trip to London ASAP!!! :rotfl2:

Hi Karin,

I have been a lurker on your TR's for ages and love them! Your posts are always so detailed and of course your pictures are fantastic! My DD and I are leaving for our first ever Dream cruise this weekend and I check this and your Dream TR every day for updates. We are so excited to finally see and experience the ship!! :cool1: We have Palo booked for both dinner and brunch and are really looking forward to those meals. Already I know that 4 days will be far too short!! Guess that means booking b2b Dream or Fantasy for the next one :)

___________
Nancy

Hi and welcome!
I am so glad you posted! It's so nice to know your readers. :goodvibes

I need to apologize for not updating any earlier, but things have been a bit hectic here last week.
Hope you really enjoy your trip on board the DREAM. It's such a beautiful ship and both brunch and dinner at Palo are wonderful!
;) Guess booking another cruise while on board would be a wonderful idea! :thumbsup2

Tea looks amazing. I think I have discovered that I really like afternoon tea and will go any time i get a chance. Your experience looks beyond anything I have be able to do (especially in my little northwest town ;))

We really had an enjoyable afternoon while at tea. The view was wonderful and the food was nice too!
May I add that I really enjoyed my own tea! :rotfl2:

As I look outside at the bleary snow-on-the-ground rainy day, your table for high tea looks VERY inviting.

I enjoy each of your entries (and can't begin to imagine how much I'd enjoy it if I were writing them :rotfl2:).

To be very honest, looking out of MY window at the moment - I would really enjoy the view from our table for high tea A LOT more! ;) :lmao:
Glad you enjoy reading our dining adventures. :goodvibes

I loved Palo tea! Too funny you brought your own! Next you know, there will be a million threads on the Dis about is ok to carry your own tea stash in your carry on next to the alcohol. :rotfl: Those scones are wonderful!

Have you done the Grand Floridian tea? It's very nice as well.

Jill in CO

It was a real nice experience.
I am such a "snob" when it comes to my tea. :rotfl2: My aunt from London sends boxes of it to us and there was just NO tea on the menu that I really liked, so I just thought I'd ask if it was okay to use my own.

No, we have never done the Grand Floridian tea. I think I made reservations at least 4 times, but I always cancelled shorty before we were about to go there. I have seen photos of it on Ann's thread and it looks yummy, so I guess we will have to make it there any time soon. :thumbsup2

I'm afraid the high tea does nothing for me - all the more for the rest of you though ;)

It was a nice experience in the end. I was a bit aprehensive beforehand, as my aunt had taken me to tea in London and I was worried I would be disappointed - it was different than the London tea, but we enjoyed it nevertheless. :goodvibes

Lol at taking your own tea! :lmao: We are spoilt with the tea choices available here though I'm a coffee drinker and don't like tea!

The finger sandwiches and desserts look yummy!

Bringing my own tea - it made Ann Marie laugh and she can now tell other guests that she served the crazy Austrians who brought their own tea. :rotfl2:
I just love the British tea and am VERY happy my aunt sends a huge amount every year! :thumbsup2

when you are at tea next time... ask them to bring you some of the vegetarian sandwiches... they were various grilled veggies and were.. :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Thanks for the tip! I did not even know they had a vegetarian option, :rolleyes1. But this is something to definitely keep in mind!

Day 12, August 24

Dinner at Palo

Day at sea

There was even more food in store for us that day! In the evening we had a reservation for dinner at Palo.

We arrived shortly before our reservation and were asked to have a seat at Meridan, a bar, until our table would be ready.
It took about 5 minutes and then we were led to our table. Disney does a great job matching return guests with their servers, so it did not take long and Ann-Marie was welcoming us back to Palo.
She filled our glasses with water and we ordered our drinks and while Ann-Marie went to get our drinks we studied the menus.

We were still reading and discussing when she returned with the drinks and then pushed the antipasti cart, which she called her antipasti Ferrari, over to us.

IMG_1425.jpg

She filled the plate with marinated olives, prosciutto and brescaola, marinated peppers and fennel, then she started cutting off chunks of parmesan cheese and sprinkled everything with aged balsamic vinegar. Needless to say all of the above were top notch and we nibbled away.

IMG_1426.jpg

Next she brought us some herbed butter and

IMG_1427.jpg

an amazing bread basket. There was Focaccia, rolls and home made Grissini. They were so good, we could easily have made a meal out of just the antipasti.

IMG_1429-1.jpg

I had ordered the Sicilian Pesto Marinated Grilled Shrimp on a mussel, crab and cherry tomato ragu. This is something I had tried on the Disney Wonder, when they had it on as a special and it had been delicious. So I was excited when I saw it on the menu and it did not disappoint. The shrimp were tender and juicy and you could just taste the pesto and there was just enough of the rago to give it an extra kick.

Tom had ordered the

IMG_1431.jpg

Tuna Carpaccio and Lemon Oil Dressing, thin slices of ahi grade tuna brushed with our Chef's special lemon oil. Again this was something we had tried on the Wonder and it was equally wonderful on the DREAM. The slices of tuna are paper thin and they taste wonderful being brushed ever so lightly with the lemon oil. This would get a huge :thumbsup2

Once our plates were cleared we were served a palette cleanser

IMG_1433.jpg

Lime sorbet, decorated with a blueberry. The sorbet is very nice, not sweet at all, rather tart and fresh and gets you excited for what else is to come.

On Castaway Cay we had overheard one of the Palo chefs talking to Platinum cruisers about the new items on the menu and one of them had sounded particularely interesting to me.

IMG_1436-1.jpg

So I had ordered the Fagotti di Petto di Pollo con Ricotta e Basilico, Baked chicken breast filled with ricotta, basil and red peppers served with pinot grigio reduction. Doesn't the description sound interesting - well, it was a taste explosion! The chicken breast was moist and tender and well seasoned and went so well with the filling! The sauce was to wonderful and to die for and lick the plate clean good! :cloud9:

Tom was very adventurous as well. He ordered

IMG_1440.jpg

the Pan-seared Calves Liver Mele e Cipolle, on polenta cake with caramelized apples and onions, garnished with air-dried prosciutto. We both don't usually eat liver, but the chef had explained the dish the day before and it sounded wonderful. Tom loved it. The liver was very tender and all the flavours worked very well together. He cleaned his plate!

IMG_1437.jpg

And since he had not been sure if he would really like the liver, Ann Marie brought us a plate of the Lobster and Mascarpone Ravioli, with a light truffle beurre blanc. Can you say heaven? One of the best pasta dishes we have had in a long time.

We actually didn't need a dessert menu as we both knew what we wanted.

IMG_1441.jpg

IMG_1444-1.jpg

Palo's famous Chocolate Soufflé with Vanilla Bean and Chocolate Sauce. Light and heavenly, sweet and disneylicious! ;) :cloud9:

IMG_1443.jpg

IMG_1442.jpg

Ann Marie poured both sauces into the souffle after opening it up with a spoon and even though we both had been more than just full before dessert, we both gobbled up this heavenly dessert.

We rolled back to our stateroom and there was not much more we were able to do that day! ;)

Next up - Breakfast at Animator's Palette

I loved the souffle at Palo, especailly the crispy top :thumbsup2

Is the Palo menu different on the Dream to that on the Magic/Wonder?

I really have a hard time deciding on anything else but the souffle, but thanks to some very nice servers we DID order something else and were served a souffle as well. :rotfl2:

There are SOME new things that were not on the Magic/Wonder menu, but there were a lot of things they served on the Wonder as well. :goodvibes

Wow..what a day you had. :worship::worship: How did you pull that off? High tea looks delicious and something I want experience eventually. Although, I don't drink tea, the found all looks so good!

And you dinner...yum. That sums it up pretty well, I suppose. :lmao:

Hi Karin :goodvibes

Your dinner at Palo looks wonderful :cloud9:

DH would be in heaven with the anti-pasti selection; the servers would just have to wheel it over and leave it with him

:rotfl2: Yup... one word again. YUM!

:thumbsup2 .... always happy to make you hungry! :rotfl2:

It was a wonderful day with lots of wonderful experiences and yummy treats! They offer lots of herbal infusions as well (that's not tea to me :rotfl2:) if you like that sort of thing at tea, and really worth to do once, as the experience to sit in that restaurant, looking out onto the sea is just wonderful! :goodvibes
Dinner at Palo is always a treat - we at least go once every cruise, the food is outstanding and the service immaculate! :thumbsup2

Actually Linda, I would have been REALLY happy if she had just parked that anit-pasti cart right next to us and left! :rotfl2:
These things were wonderful and I could have easily made a whole meal out of them. We even dipped the bread into the "left over" balsamic, because it was really good!

Day 13, August 25

Breakfast at Animator's Palette

The last day of our first cruise had dawned and we went to Animator's Palette to say goodbye to our fellow tablemates

IMG_1454.jpg

and "enjoy" the last breakfast.
Well, this last breakfast is always a bit different from all the others, it is like a "now get off the ship" kind of breakfast! ;) :lmao:

As always I ordered tea and never received it, so I stuck with the orange juice.

IMG_1447.jpg

Unfortunately we were so absorbed, that the unthinkable happened and I forgot to take photos! :scared1: Yes, it even happens to me. :lmao:

So I had to borrow photos from last year. ;)

IMG_6786.jpg

Tom had the Chef's Farewell, a large open faced omelet topped with barbecued chicken, green peppers, onions and melted swiss cheese. Regular breakfast stuff, nothing special

IMG_6783.jpg

I had the Route 66, scrambled eggs, bacon, grilled sausage, grilled ham and hash browns. Again, regular breakfast stuff, nothing special, but we were full and ready to disembark and then just turn around and check in again for the next of our cruises!

Next up - Lunch at Enchanted Garden

I always have the Route 66 on the last morning. Did I miss something, were you on back-to-back cruises?

We actually were on back to back to back cruises. ;) 3 cruises/11 nights in a row and believe me we had so much fun, especially since we became very good friends with a lot of the CMs on board! :thumbsup2

I see breakfest looks good and it must be sad to say goobye to a first group of the back to back :sad2: but there is 4 more days to see more wounderful food and friends Hint Hint :cool1:
Karin feel free to post or add any pictures that i'm in because im a big ham :lmao:
Cannot wait for more so ready set go :wizard:

Jeff, there were still 7 nights on the DREAM ahead of us and we were all set to sail through the Hurricane! :scared1:
But not much longer until a very loved family made it to the DREAM! I wonder who it could be ...... ;)

Day 13, August 25

Lunch at Enchanted Garden

Once the ship had been cleared we were allowed back on and then had the DREAM literally to ourselves, which we enjoyed very much.

And when the Enchanted Garden opened for lunch we got in line, signed in and we were seated towards the middle of the restaurant.

IMG_1484.jpg

IMG_1485.jpg

The server took our drinks order and we were off to the buffet.

IMG_1486-1.jpg

IMG_1487.jpg

My plate ........ roastbeef, cooked to a very nice medium and really yummy mashed potatoes underneath, some vegetables, hot and not too soft and some lettuce with ranch dressing. :thumbsup2

Tom had

IMG_1488.jpg

about the same I had and a few additions!

IMG_1489.jpg

Roastbeef, shrimp, lamb chops, some marinated sweet corn, cocktail sauce and a piece of salmon.

IMG_1490.jpg

Some vegetables, some salad with dressing and Chicken Caesar wraps. May I add that he cleaned his plate, which means he enjoyed it very much.

Needless to say I needed dessert!

IMG_1491.jpg

First I tried the a slice of Key Lime Pie. Nice cookie crust, with tart Key Lime filling and sweet meringue. :thumbsup2

But I needed some of these as well ....... and I even shared with Tom!

IMG_1492.jpg

Chocolate chip cookies! They are so good, chewy and moist - yum!

IMG_1493.jpg

And to top it all off, something healthy, a fruitbowl. They were all fresh and juicy and sweet. :thumbsup2

And then we were ready for more adventures at sea!

IMG_1496.jpg

Next up - a Frozone Treat

You KNOW I love those cookies!

I do, Jen! I had a few for you too! ;)
Funnily enough I am not a huge fan of the "American Cookie", but I just love these chocolate chip cookies! Did you know they bake about 6000 of them per day? They must be pretty popular! :goodvibes
