Surf and Turf Disney Style…..30 days of food on land and at sea! 06/16 WPE

Karin, since DH and I have decided to do the dining plan for part of our next trip, I am catching up with some reviews on the Restaurants board. Glad to see you are still visiting Disney and, more importantly, still delighting us with your excellent reviews.

I finally got around to trying WPE for breakfast on our last trip in October and it was great so thanks for the recommendation.

Can't wait to read some more of your reviews.

That pineapple stack looks delicious...and how funny you got a cooking demonstration and they make...apple strudel!!??

Oh wow Karin
I just have to get some of that French Toast if they have it on the Fantasy :-)

Whoever called your demo 'Anyone Can Cook' has clearly never met me !!! :)

It is really delish, Linda! I really hope they offer it on the Fantasy as well! :thumbsup2

And making Apple Strudel is not as hard as it looks - you would do well! :goodvibes

OMG, all I can say is YUM!

:thumbsup2

Hi!
I have missed you here on the boards, but there is always FB to catch up on your newest adventures!
And I am VERY happy to hear that you enjoyed WPE for breakfast. :goodvibes

Lots more reviews coming up - but there are a lot more DREAM reviews before we get back to WDW, so I hope you'll stick with me! ;)

I am sure you'd love the pineapple stack - it was really a wonderful breakfast. :goodvibes
We knew first hand that the demonstration would be Apple Strudel and I just had to see how they do it, as this is one of our "national" dishes.
Funnily enough the patissier was from Hungary (which was part of the Austrian Empire) so he did really well! :thumbsup2

Day 12, August 24

Lunch at Royal Palace

Day at sea

After the demonstration we walked around the DREAM a bit, spent some time in the Art Shop and the shops, before we returned to our stateroom for some rest.
Around noon we made our way back to the Royal Palace for lunch.

After taking our drinks order the server brought

IMG_1387-1.jpg

this cute little breadbasket, which was filled with slices of

IMG_1386.jpg

fresh baguette.

Tom ordered

IMG_1389-1.jpg

the Shrimp Cocktail with Wakame Salad and a zesty cocktail sauce as his starter. We were so surprised at how wonderful that was presented and sure enough the sauce was nice and fresh and added a lot of flavour to the shrimp.

I tried

IMG_1388.jpg

the Dill Marinated Salmon, with Mache, Micro Greens and Honey Mustard Dressing and was surprised with the wonderful fresh taste of the salmon. It had an ever so light dill flavour and melted in your mouth. The Honey Mustard dressing was the perfect accompanyment to the greens and salmon. Very tasty - I would definitely order it again.

When going over the menu, there was one more item that peaked Tom's interest.

IMG_1392.jpg

It was the Chilled Tangerine Soup with with lemon thyme cream. Now, that was a surprise in itself. If you tasted the soup by itself it was a little on the sweet side, and more dessert like, but together with the lemon thyme cream the taste changed completely and it was absolutely delicious!

Tom's main course was

IMG_1398.jpg

the Steak Frites, Sirloin Steak with French Fries, Grilled Tomato and Herb Butter. The steak was cooked perfectly medium and was very tender, fries are fries, but the herb butter was really tasty and gave the meat an extra kick.

I had had a bad experience with a Cobb Salad at the Hollywood Brown Derby the year before, but there is nothing I don't give a second chance, so I ordered

IMG_1395-1.jpg

Captain's Cobb Salad, chopped cucumer, tomatoes, avocado, eggs and onions with sliced turkey, bacon, romaine lettuce, watercress and blue cheese crumbles. And it was wonderful. Just the right amount of ingredients of all of them, not minced like at the HBD, but real nice big chunks and very tasty. I really enjoyed it!

Once our entree plates were cleared we both ordered an

IMG_1399.jpg

Espresso, which was nice, hot and strong.

And there was only one dessert we wanted to try,

IMG_1401-1.jpg

the Apple Strudel that we had seen in the cooking demonstration a few hours ago. This time it was served a la mode and it was as good as the sample we had had.

Next up - Palo High Tea

Wow, the food on The Dream really does look top notch. We were a little underwhelmed with the food on our last cruise (Magic in October) but your pictures look great and it seems that there is a lot mnore on offer on The Dream. Our next cruise is likely to be on The Fantasy so I'm hoping the same standards are present there.

The Salmon Dish and the Tangerine Soup sound amazing!

I didn't know they did culinary demos on the cruises....something else to lure me in! :rotfl:

Oh my gosh! I want to leave right now to go on a cruise! Everything looks so good to eat and the setting looks fantastic.

Someday soon, we are going to have to bite the bullet and book a Disney cruise. My dh and I have cruised before (not on DCL) and we love it. I just know my kids would love this too!

That was LUNCH at Royal Palace???? Wow, How am I going to fit in all the food!

We were a bit disappointed in 2009 with offerings on the Wonder as well - but the next year the food was really good on the Wonder. Now, we loved dining on the DREAM, food was very good, well prepared and flavourful and always nicely presented. The Fantasy is on our list for 2013 and we really hope they keep the standard they have on the DREAM alive for the Fantasy! :thumbsup2

what i would do for tom's steak right now !!!!

And I would love to have some of that Cobb Salad right now! ;) :lmao:

I have had my fair share of salmon over the years, and this one ranks with the top dishes! That soup was amazing - you would not believe the change in taste when mixed with that little bit of flavoured cream :cloud9:

Yes, they do cooking demos - they are short and fun.
You would LOVE them!
On the Wonder we saw a Phyllo wrapped salmon being prepared (and got a wine tasting with it as well. ;))
On the DREAM we only made it to the Apple Strudel demonstration (and I only wanted to see it, because it is such an Austrian dessert! :rotfl2:), but they do the Lobster Ravioli as well - I put that on my list for the summer! :thumbsup2

Me too! And we still have to wait 32 days until we will get back on board. :scared1: Too looooooooong! ;)
The ships are really beautiful, the Cast Members are just outstanding and the food ..... well, you see what it looks like!
Yep, DCL is on the top of the leaderboard when it comes to prices, but let me tell you ......... so worth it!

That was LUNCH at Royal Palace???? Wow, How am I going to fit in all the food!

Yip, that was LUNCH!!!!!! :rotfl2: Menus are different for sea day and Nassau day and the food is definitely top notch. AND ...... it is brought out for you, no need to wait in line and serve yourself - yes, I AM as lazy as that when it comes to vacation.

Day 12, August 24

High Tea at Palo

Day at sea

You think this was enough food for one day? ;)

NAY!!!!!!!! Lots more to come. :rotfl2:

In the afternoon we had a reservation at Palo for High Tea. We had never been to High Tea before, so were looking forward to the experience.

We arrived, signed in and were led to a beautiful 4 top looking out onto the ocean. Our server Ann-Marie from South Africa was right there to greet us and give us a run down of things to come.
AND, she offered us the tea menu. Now this is where I was really disappointed. I did check out the menu at home, hoping that they would have more appropriate afternoon tea selections, but one glance at the menu and I knew I would not be happy with their offerings. I don't drink English Breakfast tea in the afternoon and am not a huge fan of Orange Pekoe.
So .............

I came prepared

and asked for just

HOT water as I had brought my own tea. :rotfl2: You should have seen the look on Ann-Marie's face. We later talked about it and she told us that in 8 years of service in Palo on the Wonder, Magic and Dream we were the first guests to bring our own tea. :lmao:

So let me start off with our tea selection ........ ;)

IMG_1408-1.jpg

Fortnum and Mason (Huge London shop with a devine tea selection) Countess Grey tea. My aunt gets it for us, it is Earl Grey tea infused with light citrus flavours - totally awesome taste! :thumbsup2

Once our tea was ready we were brought a plate of

IMG_1409-1.jpg

finger sandwiches.

IMG_1410.jpg

Salmon and cream cheese, now, this was the one we liked the least - the bread was very dry, like it had been left out for too long and the cream cheese was just that, cream cheese, topped with thin slices of salmon.

IMG_1412.jpg

Next were the cucumber sandwiches - my favourites! :thumbsup2 White bread spread with butter and seasoned with salt and pepper, topped with thin slices of cucumber! I remember these from going to 5 o'clock teas with my aunt when I was younger! Loved them!

IMG_1413.jpg

Shrimp sandwich, again white bread topped with a shrimp tossed in lemon sour cream, dill and mayonnaise. Very nice again!

IMG_1414.jpg

and then there were some egg salad sandwiches. Tasty, well seasoned on brown bread.

Once we had finished the sandwiches, Ann-Marie cleared the table and put some new plates in front of us to return with a tray

IMG_1415.jpg

freshly baked Scones,

IMG_1416.jpg

some Devonshire Clotted Cream and some strawberry preserve. These were fresh and soft and tasted heavenly with the preserve and cream on top.

By that time we were pretty full, especially since we had had a full lunch.
But Ann-Marie came over with yet another plate of yummies. This time they were sweet!

IMG_1417-1.jpg

There were small carrot cake domes, Macarons, Kiwi tarts and Eclairs. They all were VERY good with the carrot cake domes being our least favourites (not moist enough) and the Macarons being the most tasty things on there.

When we had finally finished the plate, Ann-Marie told us that there was one last treat! :scared1: Yip, even more!

IMG_1420.jpg

........... a Sherry Trifle, a blend of soft sponge cake, strawberries, creme Anglaise and whipped cream! :worship: What a perfect way to finish off our tea. And yes, it was as wonderful as it sounds. ;)

Next up - Dinner at Palo

Do they not have the brunch on the sea day? Or is that earlier? When we toured Palo, there was a guy who said, yes they have brunch on the 4 days and higher cruises, but maybe he meant high tea. iI think I wold prefer brunch....did high tea cost the same?

Hi Karin :goodvibes

It's just coming up to 4pm in England (traditional tea time!) so it's very apt that I have just read a review of your High Tea - I am off to put the kettle on right now

If you are ever in London you should go to afternoon tea at Claridges Hotel, they have a wonderful menu of tea to select from

Hi Karin,

I have been a lurker on your TR's for ages and love them! Your posts are always so detailed and of course your pictures are fantastic! My DD and I are leaving for our first ever Dream cruise this weekend and I check this and your Dream TR every day for updates. We are so excited to finally see and experience the ship!! :cool1: We have Palo booked for both dinner and brunch and are really looking forward to those meals. Already I know that 4 days will be far too short!! Guess that means booking b2b Dream or Fantasy for the next one :)

Tea looks amazing. I think I have discovered that I really like afternoon tea and will go any time i get a chance. Your experience looks beyond anything I have be able to do (especially in my little northwest town ;))

As I look outside at the bleary snow-on-the-ground rainy day, your table for high tea looks VERY inviting.

I enjoy each of your entries (and can't begin to imagine how much I'd enjoy it if I were writing them :rotfl2:).

I loved Palo tea! Too funny you brought your own! Next you know, there will be a million threads on the Dis about is ok to carry your own tea stash in your carry on next to the alcohol. :rotfl: Those scones are wonderful!

Have you done the Grand Floridian tea? It's very nice as well.

Jill in CO

I'm afraid the high tea does nothing for me - all the more for the rest of you though ;)

Lol at taking your own tea! :lmao: We are spoilt with the tea choices available here though I'm a coffee drinker and don't like tea!

The finger sandwiches and desserts look yummy!
