and some Krispy Kreme doughnut holes.

We made it to AK for Morning Extra Magic Hours and after some park fun I was ready for the best snack EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only on vacation ........
You definitely have to try a Mickey bar - it is such a wonderful treat, only downside in August when we visit is, it is so hot - it melts before you can eat it at a leisurely pace, if that makes sense.
I HATE having to "bite" ice-cream, I want it to melt slowly in my mouth - you have to be pretty fast, eating a Mickey bar in August! :rotfl2:

I think I only had one of the 'Best. Snack. Ever.' last time we were in WDW - and it was so hot it was a race to eat it before it melted over me! (Now, that would have been a waste!)

They are so lovely - I'll have to do better next year - I think that might be the title of my dining review - 'Must Try Harder!'

Can't wait to read more Karin!

I only had one of them on this trip either. It was just too hot and it is such a race against time to eat this little beauty before it has all become soup! ;) :lmao:

I will have one in February though - it's on my to do list! :rotfl2:

MMMM a Mickey bar. Those never get old!

:thumbsup2 They are so good - and I love their "shape". :lmao:

Day 3, August 15

Mara

Since we were close to AKL we decided to head there for lunch. We were surprised to find the Mara not overly crowded, ordered our lunch, were handed a buzzer and while we were still at check out, the buzzer went off and Tom went back to get our food.

We had ordered the

Chicken Flatbread, with corn, mozzarella and zough drizzle. The crust was very thin and crisp, and there was lots of cheese and some cubed, spicy but a bit dry chicken on top. The drizzle had a bit of a bite and complemented the flatbread very well.

We shared the flatbread and the

African Stew. The picture doesn't do it justice. There were lots of veggies in there and huge chunks of meat (I think they were mostly pork, but I could be wrong - I didn't take notes). The breadbowl "sucks" up a lot of the sauce and it is really tasty. We have had it before and would happily order it again. :thumbsup2

Being on the DDP we did pick up dessert. Tom had a

Fruit Bowl. The fruit were fresh and cool and he really enjoyed it.

I had picked

a slice of Carrot Cake. It's the same carrot cake you can get all over on property, and I really like it. We don't have anything like it here, so I always get it at least once.
The cake is moist and there is a generous amount of icing on top. Sweet, but so yummy.

I have to agree about Mickey Bars that you have to eat it really quickly in the heat! DS was so upset that some fell.... :lmao:

Mara food looks great! We'll have to check it out sometime. The African Stew especially looks yummy~

Yum, I love the picture of the stew. I have had it before as well and I loved it. I have the recipe for it but have never attempted to make it.

I like the look of the African Stew....mmmmm! :goodvibes

It was very good, and the bread soaked up all the juices and was really yummy! :goodvibes

It's like you need to "speed-eat" your Mickey bar or it melts all over you! :lmao:

We love the food at Mara. And that stew is really good! :thumbsup2

It is wonderful isn't it? Whenever we go to the Mara Tom makes it a point we order the Stew and something else and share! ;) Not that I mind - I love that stew too!

Great to see a review of the Mara - thanks for posting :goodvibes:

I am glad you like it! It is a real nice counter service restaurant - the food is very nice and they offer a few "different" options! :goodvibes

the flat bread looks really yummy! I am forever amazed at how many food offerings there are at WDW. With my favorites and then new ones i want to try... I could eat there forever and still miss things.

Mara looks really good - that flatbread looks yummy!

I also still have to try a carrot cake - another reason to return ;)

It was really good, but I have to say, the stew was YUMMY too! ;) ...... and I am completely with you, I could stay at Disney forever and still miss a few things!

The Mara definitely deserves :thumbsup2 ........... oh, and if you missed the carrot cake - you HAVE TO go back! ;)

Your meal at the Mara looks much better than my experience with the food there. I will have to go back again and try some of the more unique fare!

I finally read this when I was full and it's much better for me to do that. :goodvibes

But>>>>>>>:scratchin...........I could..............:mickeybar
