Get up at 6:30am, ready for my trip to the concierge desk, to sort out the mix up from booking in, first I head down to The Maya place and buy 7 of them refillable drinks mugs, fill them up and have a juggling act to get back upstairs, note to self take someone when filling up 7 mugs LOL ;)

Anyways I go down at the concierge desk for 7am, had to wait 5 mins as they where late opening the desk. Oh and I was up early as I wanted to get to the parks early and I guessed going by last nights getting booked in that this problem would take a while, so best to get in early and before the crowds looking to book dinners and so on.

Anyways they go, oh computer never downloaded the information so they need to wait until they can call the person that would deal with Disney UK people at 9am, so was given “complementary” hopper tickets for the day while they sorted out the mess of the reservation on my room. I had them book us Tony’s Town Square at Magic Kingdom for that night also. When I got back later that day I found they had rebooked me in to the hotel, but same rooms, that all seemed fine, but you will find out as my trip report goes along how it wasn’t.

The 1st proper day was spent like this:

In morning we went to MGM, the thinking was get the big rides out the way and if everyone in the group can cope with that, then none of the others would be a problem. So in at the deep end we fast pass Rocking Roller Coaster and go into Tower of Terror. Just before we went in we asked for a Baby Swap (correct term is Rider Swap) and the guy joked that they only had babies that cried available for exchange at this time, oh how we laughed :) So much to our surprise the rider ticket was valid for 4 days and for 3 people, the brain started ticking over at this point.. Anyway more on how to use these to great advantage in a later post.

We got 3 snacks on the plan that day and also used our counter service for the first time in ABC Commissioner or something like that. Nothing great but at least they knew how to take the full order off both rooms without causing a fuss.

So it was back to the Hotel, now AKL has a nice decent sized pool and the girls all tried it out, along with my son while the parents tested the pool side bar ;)

Later in the evening we went to Magic Kingdom, it was 3 extra hours night, and we also had dinner booked at 9:45pm. So watched a bit of the parade, collected our wrist bands for the extra hours and headed off for the meal. Dinner was nice, however they had us on 2x tables of 4 but I was pre-warned in the morning that would be the case so not a big deal. However what was a big deal was each table had a different server and while both got told the meals should be split correctly over both rooms, they both didn’t do it correct. I think the guy who had 2 of us in 1 room wanted to make a bigger tip by making sure 3 where on his bill (but he also included the infant to make 4!!!). So this resulted in 4 coming off the room with 2 people and 4 coming off the room with 5 people.. do the maths, that’s 1 person extra they charged for that they shouldn’t have.

Any how here is the part I found odd, as I was walking along on the way to go on some rides I was trying to work out what they done, I notice this error and I notice another bigger error. We had 1 full days worth of dinning plan missing from both rooms, that like £140 worth of dinning plan gone. Confused as anything I thought I would sort it in the morning as I did not have a clue what was going on. Of the the rides, and enjoyed all the infant style rides as these where the emptiest that late at night, guess most people taken kids home to bed, but not us cruel parents, we made sure and drag ours on The Pooh ride, Snowhite one, Peter Pan and the Hunted Mansion LOL ;)

So for Day 3 post when I get time, I tell you about missing and extra food.. by the way this story of the missing dinning plan credits and how they went from worse to worse lasted like 6 days or so.. You would not believe how much of my holiday I spend at the concierge desk ;) and when you consider every other time I been to Disney I have been max of 1 or 2 times to a concierge desk per trip you would be thinking what happened this time, as I was.

Great reports :)

Just like to say again, sorry about the spelling and the grammar. Honest I did go to School, but Dinner School wasn’t something you got a certificate for at my school LOL .. Joking aside I am dyslexic, but I am not daft.. I speak great English, shame my written English has me coming off sounding like I am an idiot, I just can’t see some of the missing words. So as along as everyone is willing to forgive that, I will keep posting as inside my spelling mess is some sound advice, I hope :)

but i finally looked at your picture of the AKL lobby....those Christmas decorations look all wrong to me....they're beautiful but look out of place with the theme....

I agree, well half agree. I was expecting to see some more African themed Christmas Decor, but having never been to Africa for all I know that might be what they have also ;) But from Kids prospective they where all very impressed by how big it was, and was the first thing they commented on when entering the hotel and they couldn't figure out how they got that inside (I couldn't also but wasn't going to let the kids know that LOL).

Here some other pictures of the hotel, for them that's not been.

great report !!
and stunning pictures (the kids are adorable...)...
and you DO NOT sound daft or like an idiot...not at all...these are wonderful reports..
thanks so much for taking the time to share them with us!!!!

My husband's spelling is not the best as he has dyslexia also but I know that he is one of the cleverest people I know.

Back to day 1, I didn't know that Icelandair gave you a trip to the Blue Lagoon, that is so cool, does everybody on the plane get to go?

I visited the AKL lodge this time last year and the lobby was amazing with the huge Christmas tree, you piccie brought back memories.

Keep the report coming :earsboy:

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.

Lovely piccies.

Everyone on the Glasgow flight gets it, no matter where your going in the USA from what I understand http://www.icelandair.co.uk/main/view.jsp?branch=5653200 however not everyone took it I don't think. I have flown Iceland Air to Orlando and Boston a few times before so this is a welcome move getting the free dip, as sitting waiting 4 hours at that terminal just because you’re the first flight in as the wait for all other planes to return from the destinations is not the greatest thing to do with your time.

Loved day two and the report style and photographs is perfect :)
Can't believe that the room numbers have not been sorted yet

Thanks :)

We got 2 rooms and everyone has a bed so that part is ok, and even the part where they wanted 4 adults and 1 kid in one room and 2 adults and 1 infant in another because they had the same last names again no big deal as we simply took the 13 year old "Adult" in to our room as was always the plan. Just so I am clear the end of day 2 it's the dinning plan allocation that is in a total mess, and we experienced our first we don’t know how to server you with 2 room cards person, you will see how this unfolds but safe to say it wasn't our fault and was case of too many people not knowing how the system worked, but was more complex because they rebooked our same rooms and removed a day of our holiday from the start, the day that had already passed! The end result is comical in the extreme when you hear what I done on the last day, but I will save that for just now.

Clarke, have you considered writing a book about this? What an adventure! You are a fantastic photographer, I know the AKL well but have never seen it captured in pictures so well! The girls are very pretty & your little boy is adorable. :sunny:

LOL day I write a book will be when everyone speaks in mobile phone text talk ;)

Thanks for your comments on my photography, I really enjoy it but if I am being honest I could have done a lot better and should have brought a tripod but it is a bit bulky to take around on holiday. Of course it would help if I actually edited the images before showing people also, as these are as you see them. Only thing that's changed is that I have been automatically resized to go on my website but I didn't crop or anything. I get around to doing all that for the family album images.

If you want bored to tears I post up the link when I am done my report to where you can see all 1,000+ photos.

My 3 sisters in laws are pretty good in front of a camera and since I been with there oldest sister for 10 years and married 6 years, the 3 of them are like my own sisters, known 2 since toddlers and 1 since she was born. With loads of photos taken over the years they can pose pretty good, however they do act up from time to time.. But hey I always say, if you act up, the photo goes up LOL

And as for my son, well I would be bias no matter what I said about him, however I have to say we got the best every ride photo with him on the Buzz Light year ride, we never normally buy them, but this one we had to get and also the frame to go with it.

Oh I forgot to add to my day 2 post the comment my mother-in-law made when we where going to the pool at AKL, she said “I am not sure about is sitting at the poolside bar with the girls in the water, will they have a life guard?” my reply was the bar is pool side so it means we can sit by the pool and watch them and besides it’s not a life guard they have it’s more like 4 or 5, when see seen how many life guards they had on duty she was like, wow I don’t mind the girls in the pool with this many, and I did point out that even at it’s deepest the 2 older ones can stand up and they can all swim anyways.. By the way if you have a kid or need easy access to the pool, AKL has a side where you can walk all the way in without any steps or anything, guess that be great for wheel chair users.. oh and we took our own swimsuit with float devices all around for my son but they have them available to use for hotel guest free of charge so we didn’t have to bother.

Enjoyed reading your report, Clarke, thanks for posting. Sorry to hear of the problems you have had with the rooms and dining plan. Think you guys must be brave going on the Tower of Terror - I am already trying to work up the courage for our next trip in April!!

Great report - sorry you had so many problems :sad2:

Clarke, looking forward to reading how this unfolds over the course of the holiday ;)

OMG it was bad enough managing with 4!!

Great reports Clarke, I am enjoying your adventures :goodvibes

Thanks for splitting the report for me, I get day 3 up shortly, actually I try and do a few days in to each other when it's not as full of drama ;)

Also just to say again I had a couple of issues but I am not the type of person that lets them spoil a holiday, in fact I look on them as was to get more out of a holiday because if someone going to try (not deliberate) to put a few spanners in my holiday I try and get a couple of freebie out of it (but you will soon read I got a few extras without asking) :)

Anyway just now is not the time for me to write a few more days of reports, as I am enjoying a lovely bottle of champagne I was given by my mother and father-in-law thanking me for a lovely holiday and “out of this world” surprises that I arranged. Plus they have taken my 21 month old son over night so me and the wife are enjoying the night in with the bottle of champers, I just sneaked on to the computer as she has a quick bath ;) Who says you can’t extended your holiday when you come back LOL :)
