Super Soap Weekend 2008?

Well, I booked it:confused3 Am I happy, not yet. I am confused and I am now hoping that it is the 15th and 16th because that is what I booked. I am using my DVC points and I am praying it is that weekend, because I couldn't really get all my days the week before anyway. This is our first official SSW. Last year we just happen to be in Disney the same time, so me and my DD13 walked over to it. She loved it and begged me even before the weekend was over to PLEASE go this year. I know everyone is not going to be happy when the dates come out, because we are all needing different weekends at this point. I just hope it comes out soon and put an end to this torture.:headache:

It's most definitely geared towards die hard soap opera fans.
We're going with my sil, but dd and I will be doing our own thing while sil stands in line for autographs and photo ops. We'll meet up for meals and maybe a show or two. :)

So your sil doesn't mind being the only person in the family that wants to participate in SSW- My brother is like we don't want to wait forever on you getting autographs and photo ops- and talking to people about soap opera plots... See now I'm kind of leaning toward leaving them all behind- and just enjoying the SSW

Help!! :confused3

I want the trip booked, but I don't feel confident until Disney officially confirms it!

I know the "unofficial dates" are being posted all around for the 15th and 16th, and allears are usually right with their info, but...Teamstitch, are your contacts POSITIVE of the dates?? I don't want to book the wrong week!

I am waiting to book till I hear more info concerning the dates.;) Than, I will let the dice roll.....

She goes alone every year or meets up with a soap fan friend. We just happened to want to go at the same time this year, so we're splitting expenses and will hang out a few days before and after SSW.
There will be no waiting for her.. She'll do her thing and we'll do ours. :cool1:

I received this in my news letter today from allears;

The 13th annual ABC Super Soap Weekend presented by Colgate Total will be held in Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park November 15-16, 2008. Stars from the ABC Daytime dramas "All My Children," "One Life to Live" and "General Hospital" will participate in meet-and-greet autograph and photo sessions, celebrity motorcades, star conversations, interactive games and more. No further details have been confirmed as yet.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Although this fan event has been held Veteran's Day weekend in the past, all official releases so far indicate that it has been moved this year to the weekend of November 15-16.

Since I made my reservations for this weekend I hope they are right.

They have it figured out actually. It may not always appear that way from the guest end of things, but believe it or not, they do have things planned out.

I was just wondering..if they have it figured out, why won't Disney confirm the dates? or Why won't ABC confirm the dates? If they know the dates, why won't they officially tell us? Why make us wait?

Disney ALWAYS holds information. They just are not announcing it yet, which they are entitled to do so. I don't understand why people feel that Disney should inform them as soon as they get a date for SSW as if they are entitled to know it ASAP. They make you wait for everything because they have a specific timetable when announcements are to be made. Do you think when they annouced the dates to the public for MNSSHP or MVMCP it was because they just figured out what dates they wanted to do them? No, they had the dates sorted out, but they announced those dates according to their timetable. This is not unusual for them to have not released the information yet.

But again, no one has to believe a word I say simply because I have connections to the company that is actually bringing you SSW. I told the information that I have, why the dates changed, etc. Take it or leave it. I was trying to do a favor to everyone by getting a final confirmation of what the hell was going on and that is the information that I have. I already have my hotel booked, so it doesn't really affect me either way. :rolleyes1

They are positive. They have already been approached by one of the execs about working the event because she helps him out every year. When she asked him what dates it will be, those are the dates he gave her.

I have been wanting to go to SSW forever- but it never has seemed to work out to where I could.. Anyway, I have decided that this is the year I will go.. But I have a few questions for all who have been before- what should I expect, would this be a fun weekend for friends and family, or would it be better to attend the festivities myself and leave my family to do other things?

I am a person who loves to go to book signings, and events where I can meet people and actors... My family- not so much into it... As that I want everyone to be happy- I am looking for thoughts... Any help is greatly appreciated!

Just a little heads up on this. If you are looking to get autographs, you need to get a FASTPASS to get one. However, depending on which soap you want - GH blows through their fast passes the quickest, then it's a tie between OLTL and AMC. If you've never been to this event before, People get in line as early as 4AM. Last year, those who showed up at around 8AM weren't able to get fastpasses for GH (I think some where left for OLTL and AMC - but only a select few actors). You can get a STANDBY pass, but it's not always guaranteed that you will get an autograph. Sometimes it depends on the actor and the time. There are a few actors who have their own rule of, "If they have a pass, they get an autograph" (doesn't matter if it's a FASTPASS or a STANDBY pass). Other actors, after they go through the people with the passes, will go up to the guard rails and either take a picture or sign something (it isn't a bad idea to bring a photo just in case). I don't know who you would like to see, but again, it depends on the actor. Each one is different.

It's a crazy weekend and I literally go the entire weekend without sleep!

Wow... sorry to make you so upset at my questions. I wasn't trying to offend your knowledge of SSW. I was honestly just asking a question. I don't feel entitled to any information. I really don't. I was just wondering why they don't release dates. I actually did think they announced the dates to the MNSSHP and MVMCP because they just decided the dates. That's why I was wondering why they don't announce the dates to SSW, if they know them.

I was just curious... nothing more. You seemed to be very knowledegeable on this thread, and know a lot about SSW, so I asked you. I thought that in asking you, that I would understand better how Disney works. I never questioned what you knew, I was just asking a question. I have been to Disney a few times, but never to a party or event or special week... etc. I am sorry that I asked how Disney works, and it bothered you. I was just trying to learn how events like this work.

So I actually do trust your information, and because of you I have made my plans according to you and your inside information.

I greatly appreciate it. I was only trying to ask a question. Not question you in anyway. I just thought that since you had information to share, that I could ask you a couple questions to help me see how events like this work since I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to special events at Disney.

So... sorry again. Thanks for the info.

I think the biggest mistake would be for anyone to make solid plans until Disney officially announces when this will be. That was my mistake, listening and believing people who did not really know for sure, but were quite convincing and booking airfare for the 8th and 9th. I'm fairly certain it will be the 15th and 16th at this point too, but I won't change the air again until I see it on the WDW site.

It is frustrating because the calendar is usually up by now.

Sorry, that wasn't really geared towards you, but in other people who are questioning me and telling me that I shouldn't offer the information that I have because they are basing their info on rumors on the ABC Thread simply because they don't believe that the dates were changed due to the rooms but will believe that they don't know because they can't get a commitment from the actors. That is not the case at all because the actors don't even get their invites until September. The actors LOVE attending SSW. When I spoke with Kelly Monaco 2 1/2 weeks ago, we were talking about SSW and she said as long as she gets the invite, she goes.

Didn't mean to snap at you directly.

If there's any other SSW info that you want, feel free to ask.

Well, i know you don't choose to believe it but the dates WERE the 8th and the 9th, but were changed. If you're that concerned, book a hotel for both weekends. If you're booking the hotel only, then all you need is the deposit and then just cancel the one you don't need and get the refund. Buy the tickets to the park when you get there.

It's okay. :) I really am thankful for your information. It has helped me a lot. I guess it would be frustrating to be sharing inside info, and have people not believe you or question you. I am glad you are willing to help us by telling us what you know. Thanks!!

It is. Now I understand why some people just don't share inside info any more. I was always told, "you get attacked", "no one believes you", etc, etc. The problem is, you need to be vague in some info, cause you don't want to get people in trouble, but then you get attacked for it too. You can't win. :confused3

The biggest mistake anyone could make online is booking their vacation based on unofficial information. :) This has nothing to do with the reasons why Disney is choosing to not post their SSW dates or whether you are legit or not and everything to do with not being naive. I am kicking myself for being one of the gullible because it cost me $225. I know better. :headache:

Unfortunately I am also booked for the 8th and 9th. While it would be great to book both weekends, I am booking with DVC and only have enough points for one weekend which I already have booked. So I guess my only choice is to wait and switch once officially confirmed by a Disney rep. The whole thing stinks.

The problem is, even official information can change. Things get changed and switched around all the time. Like last year during SSW, Tyler Christopher was on the official list of attendees. However, he never showed up - he did have personal problems that prevented his attendance, but last minute they had to switch around all his events and substitute other actors in his place at the talk shows. No one even knew until the morning of because he cancelled the night before. Imagine people who were there just for Tyler coming all this way and finding out that he wasn't going to be there? I had planned my events around Kelly Monaco and Tyler Christopher.

Granted, I had originally booked for the 7-10th of November because I was told that was the date they were going to have it, but after my friend told me, I was able to switch hotels and dates. I'm pissed a little 'cause I dont have the concierge service at the Beach club anymore 'cause all I could get for the 14-17th was the Yacht Club Pool View because that's all that was available with the cast member discount. Oddly enough because of the price increasing that following week, i'm paying only $100 less for the pool view than I was for concierge  But you gotta do what you gotta do....
