Super Soap Weekend 2008?

Unfortunately I am also booked for the 8th and 9th. While it would be great to book both weekends, I am booking with DVC and only have enough points for one weekend which I already have booked. So I guess my only choice is to wait and switch once officially confirmed by a Disney rep. The whole thing stinks.

I am not 100% sure how the DVC works, but there's no way you can pay and then switch it out with points, is there? What if you booked the room, put it on hold (just to hold the availability), then switched teh booking to pay with points? I could find out from a friend of mine who works in DVC if that's possible if you like? Or if you already know the answer - that's cool too...

There is different availability with what is open to DVC and what is open to the general public. So I could potentially get a room through Disney and then try to transfer to DVC and that same room could not be available as a DVC room. It is a bit confusing, but I think that's the best way to explain it.

Right...I know that DVC gets first choice of availability and then it gets open to the public. I know you can't transfer from DRC to DVC for availability....but I believe you can book without paying with points at DVC and then alter the ressie so you can use points. I had an email sent to ask a friend of mine. If there is a work around she'll tell me and i'll just pass it on to you. Dunno though....

You have to book through DVC with points if you are using points and unless you have enough to book both sets of dates, it won't work.b

Completely unrelated to anyone's posts in particular I want to add two things.

We are entitled to date information when Disney's policy for ADR's is 180 days and now 180 days to some Nov dates has passed without park hours and related events being confirmed. I happen to be one who books exactly 180 days in advance and in this case it won't affect me but it will affect tons of people making plans for DHS/MGM not knowing the crowd situation for either weekend. Disney should be consistent in their information. Also, since this event has been the same timing for so long, it is not unrealistic for anyone to have made plans around the earlier dates. It's all unofficial until disney confirms it themselves so regardless of what dates it is, we have no control.

I am not happy if it is going to be the 15/16 but I wasn't making my trip plans around it anyway - it was going to be a bonus thing for me to do and now I will have to make it very limited instead.

DVC members are also subject to much more limited room availability, particularly after teh 7 month window which has long past now. So as a member I would feel very entitled to information on special events when the policy I must follow as an owner restricts when I can book my room. Information is invaluable.

Exactly, which is why this is so frustrating. As it is for the 8th/9th I did not get the resort I wanted and now if it switches there will probably be nothing left for the 15th/16th by the time Disney announces it. As a DVC member there are rules to follow and how can we plan without the proper information on events. :confused3

Okay, according to my friend in reservations, you CAN make a booking for the hotel through DVC and book without points and then transfer the points to your booking at a later time if you don't have enough points at the time of booking.

Right now November 3rd is 180 days out, so the information should be coming shortly. However, that is only for Dining. Since Disney books rooms 399 days out, you can't honestly expect to feel entitled to having this information at the time of booking - as many people often book at the 399 day mark. Another example, Disneyland Resort Paris only has their attraction closures till August at the moment.

Also, since this event has been the same timing for so long, it is not unrealistic for anyone to have made plans around the earlier dates.

Bingo! And this is exactly the reason why Disney's block of rooms ran limited for the 8th and the 9th. Guests assuming the dates for SSW, as well as Guests coming for F&W and chefs and their families (since the last weekend is when they come). Since Disney does book 399 days out, many people assumed that it would be the 8th and the 9th. I, myself, before this whole fiasco contemplated waiting until we were 399 days out to book SSW '09. Now? I may just book multiple weeks and just cancel one at a later date if this is the case. Right now i'm resting in peace knowing that I have my hotel for the correct dates as it's already been confirmed for me.

I expect to at least have the November hours at the First of May, for ADR purposes. They have told guests repeatedly to "hurry and book your ADR's to get the restaurant and the time you want" then they don't release the hours :confused3 ?

I don't expect SSW info at the time of my booking, but by now 6 months after the last SSW they should have the dates finalized and their rooms blocked. People save for a long time just to be able to go to this thing and it is extremely frustrating.

We have a right to feel this way, you might not agree with it, but an internet board is full of varying opinions.

You can think and feel however you would like. No one's taking that right away from you.

As for the 180 days out rule, nothing is stopping you from booking your ADR. You can still call up the ADR number and book dining for yourself. 180 Days out puts you at November 3rd. I never needed the park hours to book my ADR because the restaurants have their own hours and the Dining System is a completely different system than the booking one for hotels. The hours in the dining system are valid hours as long a the time pops up and they'll never extend past park closing hours. Any questions on restaurant hours, that's what the Dining people are there for.

Maybe I need the park hours because I am traveling with someone in a wheelchair with Cerebral Palsy and we want to dine in the park we are at? You might not need park hours for ADRs but I do and others do.

There are also others that use TourGuide Mike, a sponsor of the Disboards, they use his guides for park attendance to decide which park and TourGuide Mike uses the HOURS to determine things.

You don't have to tell me that the dining system is a different system, I am not a newbie to WDW.

Ok, so to get back on track.....

In the two corners are the following:

Nov. 8th and 9th - A crowd favorite due to being the second weekend of November like it traditionally has been. (No mention of breakfast on the 7th)

Nov 15th and 16th - Most popular dates that have been given out by various entities (websites, Insider Info, etc...) and will probably be the dates but just not a crowd favorite.

Nov 14th Insider Info about a Susan Lucci Breakfast

Does this about sum up SSW 2008 so far, correct :confused3

All I have tried to do is help...there's no reason to get snippy with me. I'm offering information that is not necessarily common knowledge to everyone, so excuse me for turning off my ability to read minds at the moment so I can count how many times you've visited WDW.

I think you meant to type 8th and 9th - 10th is a Monday :)

Dag Nabbitt
Your right......8th and 9th with no mention of a breakfast on the 7th.

Sorry to screw up the recap...

Do the SSW events take place until the park closes?

I was just wondering because on the 16th is a MVMCP at MK.

So that would leave AK and Epcot for having EMHs that night.

Yeah. The events end and then they start the Street Jam. The Street Jam goes until the park closes.

You are starting to argue with yourself now. I appreciate that you have passed on information as you have it however information changes and until they officially pass the word nothing is final for me. Which doesn't matter anyway because my dates have nothing to do with SSW and I was just hoping to go.

DVC operates its own way and I have found as a member for 2 years that info from reservations regarding DVC is not always accurate so with all due respect I would not rely on anything from anywhere except DVC when discussing DVC.

I never said I expected to have the information at 399 days. I am DVC and can only book 11 months out and change resorts 7 months out so I have completely different restrictions. I absolutely expect to have park hours and special event information for an annual event when it is 180 days out and within the ADR window, which Disney pushes big time for dining reservations. My dining reservations have absolutely everything to do with park hours and EMH and special events because I plan based on the least crowded parks and this information is critical to that. There is a whole other thread about the hours not being posted yet referring to SSW as well on these boards.

I know you have inside information, but I am unclear is it is ABC soap inside information or Disney inside information. Regardless, I personally find it hard to believe that this late in the game Disney just figured out that they dont' have the rooms they wanted available and now they are going to move the dates. One would think that those rooms would have been blocked before the 399 day advance if they had tentative dates already. Just because they don't allow guests to book before that doesn't mean some guy in IT can't hold up the rooms in the system where needed. But it doesn't matter why or when the dates are until they pulish them. There are a lot of upset people and I just think that you may have good intentions but you are giving people information that is not yet published as if it is fact and honestly, given that different dates were the unofficial info a few months ago, I don't think that is a good idea. Until it's published, I would say that anyone who can should double book and DVC members are going to have issues no matter what now if they have to change.

Ok...I'm done giving information because no matter what I say or no matter what i try to do to help people, I'm met with people who want to argue with me.

I am not an idiot and the information that I have regarding booking the rooms without points came from DVC Reservation Agents - you know, the people who you actually deal with and book with? I have friends who work in all areas of Disney and in ABC. I know what I'm talking about.

Like I've said over and over, believe me or don't believe me, what i've said so far is the truth. I have my room booked, so it doesn't effect me, but i was trying to help as many people on here as I could. So from now on, I won't give any information - even when I have the attendees list and schedule ahead of time - I will keep that to myself and pretend with you guys that I'm waiting for it too.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if events were just during the day.

Nope in 2006 my friend decided to stay through the Street Jam, but we split up and they thought she was with me, I thought she was with them. She got stranded at the park. It's funny now, but back then - not so much.

The Street Jam is fun though! Definitely worth staying through.
