I booked my res online and there was a field for tip that automatically calculated 18% - but the field was editable... so I put in zero and it accepted it. I prefer to tip based on performance vs blindly. I guess I'll ask if they will stop - if not it is what it is
Thanks!!! 4 days to go!!! whoo hooo!
Okay, I see. That's great that you were able to remove the tip from your final total, so you can use your own discretion as to how much to pay the driver. I agree - I really don't
ever like to be charged a tip before I have received service - for a shuttle, for a restaurant, etc. A lot of these places are getting out of hand in applying automatic gratuity. It is supposed to be a voluntary/optional reward for good service, and it is supposed to be be based on the type of service you have received - not the type of service you HOPE to receive. If restaurants and other companies can't pay their own employees more money and they need to make more money to justify raising the employees' salaries, they should raise the overall price of their services - but NOT force a tip on someone. Many people have said that this gives service workers
less incentive to do a great job because they already have their tip and don't have to impress anyone.
In any case, I think when I called Super Shuttle last year to inquire about prices, since it was about a non-airport call and it would have been round trip picking me up from home and going straight to and from DLR, the girl I spoke to told me that there
would be a tip applied to the amount and it would all have to be pre-paid. So I am inclined to think that pre-applying the tip is a specific thing they do for 'special requests' like a round trip home call, which you can't book online, but for the more standard calls like yours, you have the option of tipping in advance or not.
