Super Goofs Flying into February team thread

Shan, hope you feel better soon!! Drink lots of water!

Lisa, on the first post you asked us to post our weekly totals on Friday. If I'm entering in my runs on the day I do them do I need to post a weekly total, too or does the doc do that automatically?

Hi Shan...I added some cells to the right of the upper list in blue...that is the team total.

Your monthly total is at the bottom of your column.

If you want to get your personal weekly total, you would add up all the minutes in each week, divide by 60 and then by 24 to get hours:minutes.

Hi everyone!
My name is Nicole and I'm from Florida- used to work for the Mouse in costuming 10 years ago. My husband, dad & sister still work there. I have been married for 16 1/2 years and we have 5 children (2 girls, 3 boys from 3-13). I am a crazy busy stay at home mom who loves to sing & write & now run (& walk!)...

I just did the Disney half and am excited to continue my training this early for next year! My sciatic nerve kicked in my rear at about mile 5 and I struggled to finish but I did! I'm hoping to keep doing 5ks to keep me motivated until the Twilight Zone 13k in October and back again to the Half next January. I ran with a charity- Special Kids (Team ASK)- this year but I remember all your WISH shirts during the race- they kept me motivated! "DLF>DNF>>DNS" LOVED them! Afterwards, I found out that my friend Suzanne was a member of WISH & she helped me to join the Super Goofs!

I've been reading your posts and I think I need to download the spreadsheet but just in case, this week I did 5 miles, 73 minutes on mon, feb 2 and 4 miles, 58 mins on wed, feb 5 (in 38 degrees on a very windy lake ACK!). I got waylaid today :P

Anyhow, thank you so much for having me! I hope to figure out these boards real soon! Go Goofs!

Nicole (disnik)

ps. does anyone have any good tips for shin splints??? avoiding them, etc? I used to be prone to these when I ran in high school and mine bothered me during the marathon...

Yay Nicole...you made it!!

Shan...hope you feel better soon.

Mike...thanks for all the emails about the spreadsheet, sorry I'm pretty clueless about computer stuff, thats my husbands specialty.

Everyone else...:wave2:...have a great weekend, looks like most of the country will be warming up!! We are expecting 80 degrees again by next week.

I've encouraged 8 people from work to sign up for the ESPN 5K with me. We've decided to meet at the start, take a couple of pictures, run, jog or walk at our own speed and then meet at the end to take more pictures with our medals!! They say I inspire them...:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Nicole: Welcome! I sent you access to the spread sheet...if you go back a few posts, I put up picture that tries to explain how to use the online spreadsheet. No need to download then upload, or the old data will get overwritten (I think, I'm not a google docs expert, just competent with spreadsheets)

Suzanne Congratulations on inspiring so many people in such a short time!

Shan Hope you are feeling better!

all other goofys :wave2:

I've got an hour swim, and hour on the bike and then an Indian Guides campout with my 6 year old until tomorrow at a YMCA camp 2 hours away :faint:

My knee surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, so I won't be contributing much in the way of miles or minutes (but will be with you in pain!) for the rest of February. Stupid non responsive physicians assistant

I could have had this out of the way in December and stayed on track for IM training but noooooo.....

Oh well, pity party's over.

Mike

Good luck on your surgery Mike and I hope you have a super speedy recovery. pixiedust:

Oh, and I'm down for my surgery on the 20th so I won't be contributing miles either! Sorry Goofs! I thought I'd be out for just a few weeks, but when I went to pre-op they told me I probably won't be able to even try to run again for at least a month.

I was hoping to get in some miles before then just to make it easier to come back after surgery, but this cold or whatever I have has got me pathetic! :sad2: Looks like I'll be doing my "starting all over" program again - for the third time! :lmao:

starting over is better than giving up...

Mike and Shan pixiedust: and :flower3: and a speedy recovery for both of you. No worries-we will hold up our end of the training until you get back.

Maura
(who now has to go back and try to break up some more ice on the roof to try and stop the water dripping through the ceiling fan--but at least it's gonna be warm!)

Welcome to Nicole and sending lots of post-op pixie dust to Mike and Shan.

I ran 2 miles on Thursday night and about 6 this morning. Still need to update the spreadsheet. I'm disappointed that my knee pain came back during this morning's run. We did the hilly course, which is not what I was expecting, and this was my longest run since coming home from the half. One of my teammates is a physical therapist, and she confirmed that it's my IT band. :headache: Guess I can't remain in denial about it any longer. sigh

Got my minutes and miles updated. Took a pass on my long run today - gave the roads some extra time to clear. Tomorrow should be a little colder, but still above freezing, and the roads are much better.

Ran a 5k time trial instead. I'm more than pleased with the result, but I'm still going to do my 14-miler tomorrow.

Hi Goofs,

45 minutes on the Tmill yesterday for 3 miles.

Also did some sit ups.

There is a local Leprechaun run ~~ I am pondering. If I do decide to enter it would be my first race ever.

Have a great Sunday.

Lynn:)

Happy Sunday Goofs!

Mike and Shan, pixiedust: for both of you. Make sure to post your progress after surgery with us. We would miss you both too much if we did not hear from you!! :goodvibes Mike, be sure to ask your PT if you can do your "runs" in the pool. My MIL had a friend who was having PF issues and trained for a marathon completely in the pool.

Kim, take care of that IT band, stretchy stretchy...::yes::

Rich, my LR is today too. I actually may get outside for part of it anyway. :hyper:

Suzanne, way to be an inspiration to your friends (well beside us of course)..:thumbsup2

Everyone else: :grouphug: :wave2:

It is already 32 degrees here :beach: and I am headed outside for my first run in the fresh air in quite a long while. So cannot wait!! I am only going to get about 5-6 miles though as I have to take DD to field hockey. These mid-day games really mess up the whole day!! We went on a long (75 miles) snowmobile ride with the kids yesterday afternoon/evening. It was a lot of fun. The riding was great even with a ton of people out. We may go for a short one this afternoon in between field hockey and :laundy: and running and :laundy: and skiing and :laundy: . Anyone see a pattern forming? Today is my LR day of 8-9 miles and I am going to have to split it but I will still get it all in. Maybe part run and part ski as the skiing is really sweet too... Decisions decisions.

I hope everyone has a great Sunday and keep up the great work!!! :cheer2:

Hey Goofs! Hope everyone is doing well! I have been super busy this week. As my wedding gets closer it feels like I have more and more to do now. I am trying to get a little bit done each day so I am not a crazy lunatic in the summer.

I figured out the spreadsheet, and I love it! Mike did a great job of setting it up. I have been getting my workouts in this week, as I started my new training plan for my next race, the Long Branch Half (NJ) in May. So far, I feel great! Here's my numbers from the last few days:

Wednesday: intervals 5x400 at 8:49 pace

Thursday: rest

Friday: 3 miles at 29:30 plus 30 min strength exercises

Saturday: 3 miles at 30 min

Sunday: 5 miles at 50:43 plus 1.5 hours hockey tonight

I am very happy with my workouts so far. The speed workouts are definetely going to help me, and they aren't so bad!

Lisa--that is great that your DS is playing hockey...I hate playing at outdoor rinks! Hope you stayed warm!

Angie--I know what you mean about wanting to get outside. Luckily we have had great weather here in NJ this weekend so I took advantage and got outside. Hang in there, spring is almost here!

Mike--Hope the surgery solves the problem and you are back to training really soon.

Shan--Hope you are feeling better soon! Good Luck with your surgery as well.

To all the other Goofs, keep up the good work! Time for me to go watch qualifying for the Daytona 500..Nascar is back! FINALLY!

Nicole--WELCOME!! to the Goofs. As far as shin splints, make sure your shoes are not too old. That can be a huge cause of shin splints. When I used to get them, I used to freeze water in a paper cup. Then after each workout, I would tear off the top of the cup and rub the ice up and down my shins, and it worked wonders. Good Luck!

Suzanne--that's great that you inspired some folks at work to do the race with you! I have been trying to get some family and friends to run with me and I think I am getting to some of them. Hopefully soon, a few will start training with me!

Got my long run in today. 14.09 miles in 1:49:26. It wasn't a race pace run, but given yesterdays 5k time trial, I'm quite happy with it. Tired, but happy.
