Super Goofs Flying into February team thread

Rich!

Still trying to figure out how to get mine it today...DW is at work, and DD keeps getting pulled in later and later, and I've got the two little rippers.

Can't leave them alone or they'll burn the house down!

Mike - Good luck with your surgery. Wishing you a speedy recovery so you can get back to your training for the IM! :grouphug:

Shan - hope your surgery goes well. Sending well wishes and good thoughts your way!

Nicole - :welcome: As for shin splints, I used to get them all the time and I still do on occasion. You might try calf exercises. Also, while in a sitting postion, lift your leg up and spell the alphabet with your foot - both uppercase and lowercase letters. Do this with each foot a few times a day. Something similar, while sitting and leg lifted, rotate your foot clockwise and counter-clockwise a few times. Now, if you shin is hurting, there is a stretch I like to do. It helps to ease the pain somewhat. Standing straight up with one hand against a wall, pole, tree, etc., for support, cross one leg in front of the other. If you crossed the right leg over the left leg, push the left knee area into the back of the right calf. That helps to stretch the muscle and ease the pain. Hope this info helps.

Rich - a big :welcome: to you as well!

I'd also like to welcome another new member - Steve (airtime247) . Steve is a runner and a biker. I thought he'd fit in really well with the goofs! I'm sure he'll be joining us shortly.

Well, I hate to tell you all this but I have to gloat a little. We've had 70 degree weather here two days in a row. We may be in for an early spring. I doubt it, though. This is typical Arkansas weather - warm one week, cold the next. Steve and I took advantage of warmth and got in some long walks. I did 12 miles yesterday and Steve did 14 today. Since I haven't been training lately, I was pleased with my distance but not-so-pleased with my time. :rolleyes1 However, Steve did really well averaging a 14-min pace with a sore knee. Now that my knee seems to be better, I'll start putting in more time and miles.

So I will be updated on spreadsheet sometime this week, but I got in 6 miles yesterday. I'm going to post pictures on the main page for everyone to see.

Hi everyone, a Goofy Newbie here!

My name is Steve and I'm a former member of Jessica's Rabbits. I joined the bunnies and WISH back in July as a way to help motivate me to train for my first half marathon and shed some more pounds. I loved the group atmosphere and greatly improved over that time. I've lost 18 pounds since then and am six pounds below my lowest weight since high school. I still have about 20 to drop.

I was never athletic growing up. I had asthma really bad as a kid and my doctor wouldn't sign off that I could participate in team sports. I let that become my excuse to live a couch potato lifestyle for the next 20+ years.

I've yo-yo'd with my weight a couple of times. I'm currently about 60 pounds less than my heaviest weight and 25 pounds lighter than when I began running.

After hitting my mid-life crisis a year ago and realizing I couldn't afford a convertible, I decided to take up running instead. It was actually after listening to Disney podcasts talking about the WDW Half Marathon that got me excited about it and motivated to start training. Living in California, I researched the Disneyland Half Marathon and made it my goal to start training for the September 2009 race. I was extremely out of shape but figured I could do it in 19 months if I really worked at it.

I dusted off the old treadmill in the garage and started training. I found and joined a local running club. There was a small local race a couple of weeks later. It offered a two-mile course which I quickly signed up for.

I was so excited and nervous that day. I ran the entire two miles which I didn't think I could do but I thought I was going to die. Being held in a cow town, the humane thing would have been to take me out back and put me out of my misery. I've never breathed so hard and had my legs burn like that before. I felt horrible but the rush of seeing all the people lined up across the path cheering me on and the feeling of making it across the finish line was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I was truly hooked.

Three weeks later was a 5K. This was a lot easier but I took it at a much slower pace. A 5-mile followed shortly and after training just two months, I ran my first 10K.

I ended up running in my first half marathon in October, eleven months ahead of schedule of what was supposed to be my first half.

I decided to rearrange my vacations this year and instead of running the Disneyland Half Marathon, I'm signing up for the 2010 WDW full Marathon.

After 19 races this year, I still see I have countless areas in which to improve but have never felt better or been more motivated.

Enough of my yammerin'. If you have made it through my novel, shame on you! You could have burned 200 calories running in that time! Anyway, I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone! You sound like a Goofy but great group of folks.

So, how would you like me to report my miles/minutes? What is the reporting date range? Do you want me to lump all my miles together or separate them by running, biking, walking, elliptical, etc.?

-steve

Morning everyone!

Welcome Steve. Another guy....Mike have you been paying Susie or something???? :lmao: Steve, Mike has set up a spreadsheet for us that tracks everything. We are each responsible for adding our own miles and minutes. I am sure he will handle getting you set up when he FINALLY gets on this morning....:rolleyes1

Morning Mike....:love1:

 Everyone!!!!

As for me, it was 46 degrees when I got done work yesterday and I had a little time before I had to take DD14 to field hockey so I busted out the running shoes and took off. OMG did it feel good to be outside running without a rolling belt underneath me. My own pace, hills, pure bliss.... I got in 5.67 miles and got back just in time to wipe down, change clothes, mix shake, fill water bottle and jump in the car to get DD to field hockey. She was giving me grief about skating in just under the wire and I told her she was lucky I even turned around...:rolleyes1 Cuz I didn't want to...:upsidedow It is supposed to be warm again on Wednesday and I think my non-run day will be a run for sure. Today it is really windy and cooler so I will make the call when I get done work, ski or run. :confused3

Keep up the great work everyone and keep posting those miles/minutes. The spreadsheet is looking GREAT!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

First of All, Steve, WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME to the Goofs!

i've updated the spreadsheet below with your name

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pDo_Y1OjfFxhlRUqeH5B_fQ&hl=en)

The sheet is set up to work by entering your MINUTES of total activity, along with any distance you may have covered. Therefore, if you do 30 minutes of stretching, but no running or walking you enter 30 minutes. If you ran 3 miles in 30 minutes, and stretched for 15 minutes, you would enter 45 minutes and 3 miles.

make sense?

There is a picture of the chart linked below which visually explains how to use the googledocs spreadsheet...You'll need to either PM your email or send me an email using the "request access" button on the document page.

Jeez Lisa!

My coffee cup needed some serious lip time this morning, thats why I'm late! Also, side note, why would I mess up the ratios by getting more guys here :rolleyes1

I've got 2200 yards on tap in the pool today, and then surgery tomorrow...have a goofy day everyone!

Mike

Mike, it is the benefit of being an hour earlier than you!! You love me, you know you do....okay just lie and say you do....:goodvibes

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Happy Monday! :rotfl2: Yeah, I know....

Mike & Shan - lots of PD and best wishes for surgery and recovery.

Steve - another former Bunnie! How you doing and Welcome!

Big Hello to everyone!

Weather here Sat was BEEE-U-T-FUL!! Got in my 6 miles outside w/o needing hat, ear muffs, gloves, parka, snow shoes. Would've gone longer (Patrick had 12 miler) but had baby shower to get to. Too bad the temps won't stay but gotta take 'em when we get 'em right now.

Hoping to get outside before rain comes but radar iffy. May have to be gym day. Ah well....

Have a great one!

Hi Goofs!

Ok. I am ready to go. oh wait, you guys started without me! Well, good for you! Now I just gotta catch up.

I have had some MAJOR LTO for the past couple weeks but I think its mostly behind me and I plan on cranking up my CMM training tomorrow. I thik my neuroma is healed. I think I remember how to run. I think I can lose the 4 pounds I have gained since the marathon!

Hi to all the new Goofs!
Mike and Shan - I am thnking of you. I hope the surgeries go well and you get the results you want.

Tomorrow I will tackle the rest. I gotta get to my daughters concert......

Cecilia

Welcome back from LTO...hope all is good in your corner of the world now.

Mike

Morning Goofs, busy day. Work behind, girls to the gym, cleaning lady day.

Cecilia, glad to have you back! We have missed you dearly!!

I got in 4.5 miles yesterday run/walking outside. It was 25 degrees so I decided to brave the temps. Apparently I am a fair weather runner according to my MIL and SIL who have both been running in 0 and minus degrees. I say I am a smarter runner for NOT running in the cold like that! Today is girls to the gym so I will only get 2-3 miles out of my 4 that I am on tap for today. Tomorrow is make up time and a dentist appointment (yay), then groceries, laundry and hockey to field hockey practices. Another busy day. Thursday is not much better for me, heck I don't think any day is. DH came home yesterday and announced that he is taking off the weekend of the 28th for a truck driver's snowmobile ride. Must be nice to never be around and then just take off on a whim too. Me, I have a swim meet, field hockey skills session and a field hockey game that weekend to attend. Lucky me...:sad2: Try to tell him how much he is missing and he just gives me the "I don't get much time off and I want to do what I want". Nice, thanks for the help. Oh and I forgot to mention that I have a 12 mile run that weekend too. Good luck with that.

I hope everyone has a non-busy happy day planned ahead!! Go Super Goofs!! Has anyone else noticed that all the other teams have a little saying after their team name? Maybe we should come up with a mantra too.....:confused3

Surgery day.

Lisa I like that our motto changes each month. If you really want one it could be "Insert Motto Here"

:welcome: Steve I enjoyed reading your race report. Hope you come to enjoy the Goofs!

Mike Good luck on the surgery. May you heal as quickly as Claire or Sylar on Heroes (and if you're not a fan of the show, let's just say Super Fast!)

Cecilia Glad your neuroma is healing and you can run again--and we all know that you can run!

Lisa Did you know there is a Princess Runner on the boards? I was perusing the princess half and thought you might be heading to WDW for the race. I'm really trying to find a flight to go down and race the 5k. (Try to put this new training to an early test)

As for me, speedwork today. This week it was a ladder of 200,400,600,800 then repeat downwards. Top speed of 7:35 mpm. I must say, it does feel sorta neat to run "that fast", even if it is just for short bursts.

Off to an "All-people" meeting to listen to what kind of shape we're in and our goals for the year.

Maura

Maura, I did see that and it peeves me to no end. Nothing like stealing a name... So just so everyone realizes I am princessrunner all one word with no caps the other one is a copy.

Mike :wizard:  :grouphug: Heal quickly my friend.

Mike - best wishes for today. :grouphug: pixiedust:

Maura - you should definitely come down for the Princess weekend!

Lisa - yeah, briefly confused me when I saw the post in the princess thread as well. Totally stinks someone could just hijack the your name.

Just realized my Super Goofs icon is missing. Have to fix that later.

I am taking a half day today to enjoy the 60 degree temps we have today (seeing as it'll be 30 degrees colder by Thurs). So out of here in 15 min, home, change, head out to trail for nice long, warm walk. SO looking forward to it.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi all-
spin class for 1 hour yesterday, fitness yoga today (75 minutes)

I have been leasing the Beast for almost three years now- his owner offered to sell me him last May. I decided to keep leasing him because i could not afford it at that time. Today she offered to sell him to me again at half the original asking price. I am so confused- it has always been a dream of mine to own my own horse but i am so afraid of the economy right now.
He really is the perfect horse for me. Of course DH wants no part of it!

Drive by. Got in 3 miles with the new women's group I'm trying to run with. Ran out on the mountain again and yes, it hurt as much as it did last week. When I first got to the trail there was an ambulance and firetruck. Not a good sign. I thought maybe someone was trying to tell me something - like I'm too wimpy to run this again! Turns out an elderly woman was out walking the trail and fell and broke her arm or something like that. Hope she is OK!

Have a super day tomorrow Goofs! :grouphug:

Just thought I'd drop by and say hi to the Super Goofs! Hope you're having a fun February!

Lisa: Not that I'm on your team or anything, but I really like that your team's inspirational quotes change. We just took ours from the movie...
Wow, you're really busy with the kidlets' schedules in addition to your own. You're a Super Mom in addition to a Super Goof! P.S. There will always be just one princessrunner to me. :goodvibes

Mike: I'm thinking of you today, hoping your surgery went well. Recover soon, recover strong.

Shan: I understand you have an upcoming surgery, too. Sending PD your way on that one. Running with a woman's group sounds like fun. Mountains, not so much. (I'm having problems with hills right now...)

Liz: I can't believe how nice the Chicago weather was. That's great news. You'll deserve a break.

Cecelia: Good news on your neuroma. I hope your LTO continues to be absent while you train for CMM. I envy you for going--it sounds like it's going to be a great race. (Of course, you'll be one of the reasons it will be great....)

Maura: Wow, your speedwork is really working! Congrats! I really hope you get to test it out at the Princess 5K!

Joanne: Good luck making your decision with the Beast. I really hope it works out for you, because you deserve to have your dreams come true. (Okay, that's the Disney sap in me coming out, but I do mean it.)

To all the Super Goofs I missed: :cheer2: Have a great day!

) Torn Medial Meniscus

2) Condromalcia. http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/patelladisorders/a/chondromalacia.htm?rd=1

3) Femoral Cartiledge effed up.

Likely 2-3 weeks recovery, no swimming until stitches are out, hopefully they'll be out next week.

Poop.

At least I wasn't imagining it.

Anyway, this ain't my first rodeo as far as kneed surgery goes, so tomorrow will be ok and Thursday will suck out loud.

Thanks for the pixie dust goofs!

Mike
