Super Goofs Challenge April Edition

Hi

60 minutes total for me today.
Bike was for 20 minutes for 4.7 miles, remainder of time was spent on strength training.

Thanks!

Have a evening. Tomorrow I start week 8 of c25k!". I talked to my daughter today and she brought up the topic of us registering for 5k this summer. I told her "Okay let's do it!"

I'm Back! Unfortunately I had a really bad fall this week- a concussion and a cervical neck injury. I am still in a lot of pain and I am taking way too much motrin but I can not move around comfortably. Needless to say I will not be doing Great Bay today. I spoke with Kristi and left a message with Lisa to give them a quick update on my status but I will be out of commission for some time. Send healing energy my way- please!!!!

Good luck all today.

Joanne

We missed you today, Joanne!

Ok, I am so proud of Angie, I am going to copy my Great Bay report here as well.
I want everyone to know how awesome she did today. :goodvibes

Just back from Great Bay...quick drive-by report:
Met Lisa & Angie (and families) before the race.
Chad finished in 2:00:53!!!! :woohoo:
Me & Angie FINISHED and we were not DLF!!!

I am so proud of Angie. She was having a terrible time with blisters yet again. I talked her ear off at times. I went a little ahead of her at times (to give her a break from my jabber mouth  ). She plugged through in ALOT of pain. And she did it!

Gotta run. Chinese food is calling my name... :rolleyes1

You guys ROCK!! I am so proud of you all- I am so sad I was not there as well.

You guys really to have something to be proud of! CONGRATS ALL AROUND.

I am all caught up with miles to here. I am going to post a longer report later today but Great Bay was awesome. My SIL and I met Chad on the out and back portion of the race and he was flying. I knew he was headed for a good time.

I too have to state very loudly how intensely proud I am of Angie. She was in pain and you could see it. I pulled my Achilles during the race and was only able to do the last few yards with them. What a trooper she was. And she should be screaming from the rooftops that SHE DID IT. What an accomplishment. I am, however, going to do some blister research and see if we cannot stop those from happening. I have one on the outside of each big toe but that is from the toe box of my sneaks being slightly tight. I had to pop one on the way home because it was either that or I should name it, it was HUGE!!

I am very proud of Kristi also. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for pulling Angie through this. You were so wonderful to stick by her side and keep her going. And they were not DLF. There was someone still to come behind them while we were getting medals. Did you ever find the 1st time medals? I would email if you did not.

As for me, I got pushed way out of my comfort zone running. My Sport Beans were not cutting it. I felt very dehydrated but in reality was over-hydrated. At mile 12, I had to get gruff with my SIL and send her on while I walked up a hill with my right arm over my head wondering if I needed to step off the side and stick my finger down my throat. I had such intense pressure in my diaphragm that I pulled muscles holding it in. They are still sore today. My legs are killing me. I tend to slow pace up hills but my SIL does not break pace no matter what and pushed me further and harder than I had been before. She finished in 2:13, I finished in 2:18. My WDW time was 2:31 so still with the pain and the need to walk, I crushed my last time for a new PR. I am filled with happiness.

Chad, Kristi and Angie, you all rock beyond belief. My DH told everyone how nice you all were. He has now tentatively agreed to let me run TOT :cool1:  :yay: :woohoo: so he can meet the rest of the motley crew!! Joanne, I did get your message, albeit late. I was having trouble getting voicemails down there, Kristi can verify that. She left me on the morning of the race and as we were walking the walkers out, my voicemail tone went off after quite a delay. Sorry to have missed you and I hope you are less sore than I am today!!

GREAT JOB EVERYONE!! And especially to you Angie, you persevered and finally met your goal. You completed a half marathon and how many people can say that!!! Name a blister after me!! :sad2:

Hi Everyone-

I took a mental health day yesterday. Friends took me to see "Run fatboy Run" & it was even better than I expected. Then DH and I took the kids to the lazer tag arena for a couple hours. So I didn't get an official "run" in, but believe me, I ran. Mostly though, I had a pretty good day and I am feeling a little more capable today. I am in my running clothes so thats a start. ;)

Joanne - Oh! Ouch ouch!! Take care of yourself! Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I hope you feel better soon

Lisa - Way to go! I know what it is to push yourself to the edge and manage to scrape up enough juice to finish! Thats a lot of time of your last half! Bask in that wonderful time. Take care of that achilles!

Angie - Oh wow. You are so my hero! Way to go. Amazing job. Congratulations! Now, we need to tackle the whole blister issue......

Kristi - What a hero! I know that helping someone else has its own great rewards, I hope that you are basking in them.

Chad -- Great Job! Smoking time!

Great job guys! Hope you all have speedy recovery from your race ailments. I got to cheer some WISH'ers on at the Martian Marathon as a course marshall. It was nice to see the faces of the people you meet online.

Today did 45 min of weights/stretching. Nothing yesterday (It was a LOOOONNNNGGG day volunteering).

Trying out my new shoes tomorrow on my 3-miler. Trying to keep good thoughts about how my training is going (definite bumps in the road). DH has been encouraging, but it is still frustrating.

Cecilia: Thank you and I need to send you a virtual hug. Anytime you need an ear, PM me or I will give you my # to call. I had to do it twice with my dad and the second time he lost. It has been 6 lonely years and I still miss him a lot. I hope it helps you to know that you are not alone in the way that you feel and in your own time, you will let it out. We are always here for you.

Soooo, now that Mike has agreed to babysit for ToT :cool1: I have decided not to do my full marathon in the fall. It is the weekend before ToT and I would rather do the Disney thang!! Also, I love the 13.1 distance and I am really not sure that I will like the 26.2. I don't want to hate running because I love it so much. On that note, I have worked a plan so that I will be able to do the Maine Half Marathon in September (women only) AND the Hollis Applefest :woohoo: (stop cheering Joanne I can hear you from here!!) My question is to Kristi or Angie, would you like to do the relay (I am willing to take the longer hilly portion!!) If you would, I will do the relay team thing, otherwise, I will just run the half with Joanne. No talk about holding me back or any of that stuff, we are a team!!

Also, suggestions on a hotel...

I just want to be clear...Angie was NOT holding me back.
I probably could have gone a little faster. But for what? I wasn't going to win. ;)
I loved being on the course with someone & not doing it all alone.
This year's Great Bay went by alot faster than last year's race. I really enjoyed it this year.
Last year I hated the race. I was swearing the whole time. Just ask Chad or my Mom! I finished and was crying, in pain.
No fun. No fun at all.

Angie - Did you name a blister after Lisa? :lmao:

Lisa - how's that achillies?

Hi,

70 minutes total for me tonight

30 minutes on the bike for 6.7 miles
40 minutes of strength training.

More running for me tomorrow, c25k w8w2, no stumbling for me and I was able to add the extra minutes and not loose too much in my pace.

Keep on keeping on!

SOrry I've been missing in action. I was co-chair of a big conference my department hosted over the weekend. I've been working on this for several months and the last two weeks have been a killer. I've done very little exercise in preparation for my upcoming half. My goal is just to finish at this point.

For those that participated in the Great Bay half - WTG!!!!! You guys rock.

Angie - Good going despite the blister problem. :woohoo: Congrats on completing your first half. :thumbsup2 I'm queen of the blisters. I've never participated in a race that I didn't get some big ol' blister somewhere on my feet. I honestly think I could do better if it weren't for them. I feel your pain.

Cecilia - It's so hard to see a parent not doing well. Sending you lots of hugs for this difficult time.

Angie - my DH, Steve (aka Nukeman), is finishing an outage at his work (working 12-14 hours/day) which means he'll be able to get back on the bike again. He'll probably ride at least 60-80 miles a week this summer in preparation for a century ride in July (100 miles). I also plan to ride the bike a lot more after school gets out this May.

Joanne - sending you :wizard: and :goodvibes for a speedy recovery. Ouch!

So far this week, I have done zilch, nada. I was supposed to do 10 miles this weekend but I couldn't get to it with the conference going full swing. I plan to get back into it in the next day or two.

For Steve:

Sunday: 13 miles/ 52 minutes (bike)

Morning, SuperGoofs,

Did my 3-miles this morning at 0-dark-30. Anyway, 3miles-28:30. So on a scale of 1-10, I rate this run a 6-6.5. On the plus side, my new shoes felt good, felt good cardio-wise and did manage to a decent pace. On the down side, still having some issues with my right shin/ankle, but on the plus side it's only the right and it didn''t get so bad that I had to stop (like last week). Icing now, as we speak.

Anyway, I'm hoping that over the next 3 weeks, if I'm careful, it will resolve itself and I am rally going to try and forget about it. Does anyone have any good in-run suggestions for "shaking out" your legs?

Maura

Maura -

I don't havve any specific ways to shake out your legs but I know what you mean. I am terrible about stretching after my runs and I am worse about getting my cross training in.

However, I keep my legs in constant motion. I do light stretches all the time. Standing in the grocery store check out, drying my hair, cooking dinner, etc I am stretching some part of my legs. I spell the alphabet with my feet while watching tv to strengthen my ankles.

I have also taught myself not to cross my legs when I am sitting. I did this while training for my first marathon because my legs would fall asleep but I kept it up because it just isn't good for my legs.

Also, a long soak in a warm bath of epsom salt will do wonders for your legs. I know we talk alot about ice baths on these boards and they have their time and place too. But a warm epsom salt bath can really be healing when your legs are tired. And its just a lot more pleasant than an ice bath.

Good Luck!
Cecilia

Ceclia: Hope things are ok with you. My mom had cancer, and it was a trying time. Sending you PD! :wizard:

Afternoon Goofs. I am MIA mentally today. My follow up cancer screen is tomorrow. I am fasting and VERY nervous. Fingers crossed everyone.

Angie: You silly, you did 26.2 not 13 for Sunday!! This is VERY important. I don't know about you but my calves still feel like I did 26.2!!

I did 20 minutes of stretching yesterday and am about to do some strength, stretch and abs. Mostly I have been laying around feeling sorry for myself. I was nervous the first time, found out about the precancerous polyp and am now officially scared that it has turned. I know I am healthy but cancer does not care how far or fast I can run. Cecilia, extra hugs from me to you today. Hug me Goofs, I am really scared! :grouphug:

Lisa: :grouphug: :grouphug: Hugs to you. My prayers are with you. Not much, I know, but know that we are all thinking good thoughts and sending you good energy!
