"Do what you can, where you are, with what you have." In other words, keep working it Goofs!!:goodvibes

TGIF, Goofs! I have decided to take a 1/2 days vacation today--hmmm, what to do, what to do! Hey--I really, really need to update the spreadsheet, so I guess I can do that.

Did a light weight workout this morning. I'm really trying to incorporate a bit more upper body/ab work into my cross training.

Checking my usual DIsney sites this am (Mousesavers.com and Allearsnet.com) and saw the F&W festival brochure is out. Downloaded it for a little light lunchtime reading. I'm beginning to look forward to the RFTT.

Hope everyone gets out to enjoy the weather, if it's good where you are and put in a few miles.

Maura

weather is not so good here, but I still got out for 3 miles, my niece wants to do cross country track when school starts and asked if she could run with me...she's a lot faster runner, but cant run very far yet... it was nice to have some time with her (she's 12)

I have the balloon rally 5K on Sunday, then I'm headed to the Cape for a few days

Hi Goofs, can't believe its almost August already...where has my summer gone? My daughter starts high school on the 24th so we are scrambling to get everything done before then. Hot, hot, hot here so I haven't been outside walking all summer but decided it was time to get back on the treadmill a few days ago. Huge difference for me, the treadmill vs the bike infront of the TV.

Good luck Lisa on the Beach to the Beacon, Angie on your 5K and Liz (I think I saw your name on the list) with the Chicago RnR!! Go Goofs!

We are off to Tampa tomorrow to see the Rays vs Kansas City and the after game concert with Daughtry. Its my bday present from my DH and DD. Good times!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Started August with a 10 mile run. I felt pretty good considering how little I have run the past two weeks.

Ran quarter-mile intervals today, with quarter-mile recoveries. Got 5 miles in, and though I ran out of time, I probably could not have eked out more than another mile or so, since I was really pushing.

Happy August, Goofs. Looks like we're off to a good start getting those miles in!

I did my 9 miles with Team in Training this morning. The humidity was so bad that all our clothes were absolutely soaked and I kept expecting my fingers to start pruning. Ugh! But at least we got them done.

It was a tough week for me at work last week. I didn't get much exercise in at all. Tomorrow s 7 miles though! Wish me luck!

Hey everyone!

Shan - P&PD from Cali. Best of luck with dealing with your event. Take care!

Suzanne - Congrats on registering for the races. Have a great time.

Angie - Great job of improving your time from last year's race. You may not have been the fastest runner there but how many people there can say they improved their time by 4 minutes? ;-) Also, awesome job of completing the series. That takes a lot of determination!

Joanne - I'm so sorry to hear about your job. That's a terrible way to find out.

Shannon - I read one of Galloway's books and while I don't follow one of his plans, I do use a run/walk method. I generally do 4 minutes run/1 minute walk. I use 4/1 for all training and usually in races longer than 5Ks. During longer races, I intend to do 4/1 but my ego gets the best of me and I often start out running 20 minutes or so before my first walk break.

AFM - We got back Monday from a quick vacation to see family in Los Angeles. 1800 miles of driving with a 3 year old but we all survived!

The morning after we got there, I ran a 5K on the beach. It was a small race in a series called Playa del Run. I got off to a slow start as there were quite a few walkers lined up at the front of the starting line. It took me a bit to get past them. I ended up finishing only 7 seconds behind my PR. Arrrrrrgh! It was a fun race overall and I got a nice shirt out of it.

I didn't get much exercise that week as I was mostly doing honey-do's around the house for my MIL. We went to Knott's Berry Farm one day (blasphemy, I know) as well as the L.A. Zoo. The temps were triple digits most of the week where my MIL lives so we didn't feel like getting out much as we aren't really used to anything over 70!

On the way back, I ran a half at the San Francisco Marathon. I'll post my review on the July 25 & 26 thread.

It feels good to be home and with getting caught up. I just ran 4.5 miles of trails in the local forest today with our friend we are going to WDW with in January. We couldn't figure out a way to adequately talk plan without all our books and maps!

Steve...Thanks for the response on your R/W plan.

I did a 4 mi run today and took walk breaks for a couple of min at every mile...it worked out well...I felt much better after my run than I do normally on that distance. I think 4:1 would be ideal for me too, but I'll have to wait until after this deployment to try that out...while I'm here, I have to run with other people for safety and the guys I run with have to be convinced to take the walk breaks at all.

Keep up the awesome training Goofs...I know August can be one of the hottest and most humid months of the year in many places...believe me, it is down here in Guyana! Push through and find a way to work around the heat, be it running on a treadmill or changing your run time during the day. I am not usually an early morning runner, but had to get up at 0530 to get out there before the heat.

Hello Super Goofs!!! Wanted to drop in and say Hi! and see how everyone is doing! Looks like everyone has been keeping up with their training...Great job!!

My training has been almost non-existent lately..not good!! I have been trying to get a few runs in each week but with my wedding now only 26 days away, I am swamped with things to do, and not much free time! I am going to head to the gym in a little bit to get in a run on the TM, then it will be back to work on wedding stuff!

Keep up the good work Goofs!!!

Hey Goofs!
Back from the beach. I did some walking while there and I just put the times up on the spreadsheet.
The girls had fun and I was able to forget about some of my troubles for awhile. :thumbsup2
Hoping to get back on some kind of schedule next week cause the girls start back to school.
I'm so sad summer vacation is over for them, it always goes by way too fast.
Now I'll have to look forward to New Year's Eve at Beach Club Villas!
We're extremely busy this week trying to wrap up everything.
My shin did well walking on the beach, hoping to get back to running again.
DH and I were planning on doing a very HILLY 10K for Labor Day, I think I'm training for it a little late. :lmao: If I have to I'll just walk it and he can wait for me at the end. ;)
Still debating on signing up for TOT 13K...
Hope everyone is doing well! :grouphug:

Hey Goofs!!

Did RnR Chicago yesterday so taking today off. Went ok, not the PR I wanted but always next time!

And I have confirmed my shoes are done. After one full, 4 halfs, couple of 5Ks and a tri (along with the training) they are shot. Had the balls of my feet hurt and got a blister - I don't get blisters.

So now have to find new shoes. Naturally the ones I have and love (until yesterday) are no longer made as they now have new model. Will have to try them out.

I've got two super sprint tri's this month so have pool work to do along with everything else. I have got to finish tweaking my plan....

Will update July and Aug later tonight.

So good to be back!
I worked forty hours last week and I have 40 on tap for this week- not used to working all that! I was given a going away party last Friday. I promised myself I would not cry but I did.
My mom got GG#3 a tag along bike for her birthday. I took the gang out for a two hour ride. The tag a long is the best thing ever. She had a blast. GG#2's butt was sore after all the riding. I ended up getting her a pair of bike shorts- hopefully that will cut down on the complaining! When I was at the bike store I found the perfect bike for me. The bike I have now is about 10 years old and it has never felt right. I took it to the store to get fitted and was told I need a different type of something and it will not fit on my bike because it is so old. I am trying to figure out how I can buy a nice bike with no income!
Seamus has been sold. I am taking a break from riding for a month. I need to work as many hours as I can plus my heart is broken. I was told when I was at the Cape and I cried for two days straight, I cannot bear to see him- he will be going to his new home soon and it sounds like an amazing situation for him.
Now that I am home I will be working on going to the gym and cranking out some miles.
Thanks for the welcome back!

Quick & easy 5k earlier today. I'm not running any more than 3-4 miles at a time until Friday, when I have the Howl at the Moon Ultra. 8 hours in Illinois heat. Should be fun. On the plus side, think of all the extra miles those will be, right?

I'll update the spreadsheet tomorrow at some point.

..let me know how the concert was!!!

Daughtry was great, played for about 45 mins, not bad for a free concert! Played a couple of songs from the new CD plus a few from the first CD. The band had the skybox in the next section over and up from our seats so we saw them before the concert which was cool. Tampa won 7-1 and we got to see an in the park home run!!

Hope everyone is having a great week, time to get on the treadmill.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

I sit here doing a little icing of the legs--nothing major, just figure I'll tend to a couple of sore spots. Speed work was tough again today. I'm hoping it's just because this is summer (I almost typed "simmer"--same thing on some days!) Last year, I really didn't run during the summer with my ITB issues, and even though it's indoors (yes-a little wussy), it's stll humid. On the other hand, I am trying to "release the outcome" of achieving speed (sort of a zen thing) and not worry anymore. We'll see which half of me wins! Got in 4 miles anyway.

So yesterday I made a potentially life altering career decision. We'll see soon how it turns out. Let's just say I may not have to worry about time for marathon training soon!

Rich Good luck with your Ultra race. DO people really howl?;)

Suzanne Just getting on the treadmill at 1:30 in the morning? Wow! I assume it's in part of your house where no one can here you.

Joanne Ihope your equine friend is going to a great place and your employment situation improves quickly. (Yours, too Angie!) Your guys will be at the top of my "happy thoughts" list.

Liz You amaze me with your willingness and ability to pack in the races. Once the bug bites you, you go all out!

Shannon I've actually gotten quite used to working out at 5:30 am. At least you have the whole day ahead of you when you're done.

Shan Welcome back from the beach. My sDS would not be happy if school started next week. This year it is the latest of all--September 8 (day after Labor Day)

Laurie Hi--happy almost wedding day!

Steve WTG on the race--I saw your report on another thread. Sounds like you had a great experience. My only experience with the SF marathon was being in town the same time it happened three years ago and snagging a great marathon hotel rate at the Fairmont!

Hii to everyone else...time to get to work.

Maura

Hey Goofs. First post updated with team miles for July and overall. All I can say is WOW!

I am back in the swing of things. Went whitewater rafting on Saturday and had at least an hour of hard paddling that I claimed, a walk yesterday and a short quick run this morning. More to come as I am officially in training for the Seacoast Half in Portsmouth 11/8/09. :yay:

I hope everyone is well. I am trying desperately to keep up, really I am...

Angie...thank you so much for the birthday card. It really made my day!!

Maura...yes, treadmilling it at 1:30am! Its in my computer room/spare bedroom on the opposite side of the house from the master so it doesn't wake my husband up. But, its on the same side of the house as my daughter's room so once school starts, I'll have to treadmill without the radio which can be painful!!
