Super dry skin...what do you use?

Good morning!

What is the best product for dry skin. I am super dry all over. I itch like you would not believe. And when I scratch the skin turns white with scratch lines. In some places it feels almost... bumpy but it's dry. I am going nuts. Started out with my hands/arms but it's on my torso, face and head now. It's not flakey (well except patches on my face) or anything, just super itchy.

I am sure it's b/c the humdity has gone down to almost nothing here... I was fine up until this past week.


What is best for long and short term dry skin? Thanks in advance!

Why not check it out with a Dermatologist.... they say allergies can happen at any time, maybe that is what you are experiencing..

Now for what I use... I love Creme de la Mer, pricey, and Guerlain products....both have to be bought at a department store.. They just work for me, I have tried everything..

There is also a Tourmaline Cream by Aveda that is good for dry skin...

Anyone else?

Jurlique Hand Cream. I've NEVER found anything even close to as moisturizing, and all natural

And drink 100 ounces of WATER a day. Not diet soda, not iced tea--water.

After you get out of the shower, while you are still wet, lather up with a lotion you like. I think Cetaphil works best. Good luck. Drink plenty of water. The less you shower or bathe the better- for the dry skin, not for other things.

Oh, and try Cetaphil soap, too. It's very gentle.

Eucerin is a nice heavy cream that would probably give you a lot of relief. It is hypoallergenic and can be bought over the counter. They suggested I use it for my sons eczema. I have also found anything with 'Shea' in it to be good for dry skin. Good luck.

Our docs would say that either Cetaphil or Wellskin lotion would be best. I personally love Cetaphil, and the price! You can buy Cetaphil over the counter, but Wellskin (which is $37, ugh!) is only available at dermatologist offices.

ETA:

The bumps may be Keratosis Pilaris, aka KP. Almost everyone in the world has or has had them at some point of time. You'll beed a lotion with glycolic acid in it to help them out. Glytone and Hydrolac (again, only at the derm office) would help those out. Again, I'm not a doc, but you should do just a regular check up at a derm office

The best lotion I've found so far is Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Healing. Has worked better than anything else I've tried.

You could also put baby oil on as soon as you step out of the shower, prior to drying off.

I use bath and body work's body cream. I have lots of allergies, and I can use the majority of their fragranced stuff with no reaction (florals are a bad idea for me).

Eucerin is excellent, but I feel like I'm suffocating my skin when I use it.

I have to do something. Right now my hands itch like mad. I wonder if it's b/c (well duh who wouldn't) wash them after using the bathroom plus the weather change. They haven't changed the soap at work... I itch all over but my hands are the worst ATM. My sides/back are second worst. I couldn't believe when I felt the bumps this morning.


I got tested (ha!) for allergies two years ago and the doctor said I had ZERO! My son had some but didn't NEED meds and my husband is allergic to just about everything. Out of the 3 of us, I seem to have the most "real" symptoms... sinus issues like you would not believe. Plus breathing issues I asked my doctor and she is treating me for a sinus infection... if that doesn't work I will go back in.

Honestly, the Vaseline works better than anything else. I've tried Aveeno and couldn't stand the smell, but it didn't work as well anyway.

The B&BW stuff only worked for about an hour.

Try the Vaseline and/or the baby oil post-shower and see how it works. It's cheap enough that if it doesn't work for you, you're not out a ton of money.

Also, maybe straight plain old vaseline jelly at night...

Take some Benadryl. I know that's not good for dry skin, but I would guess that you are suffering some kind of allergic response. I'm itchy just reading your posts.

Take some Benadryl to stop the itching.. I get hives all the time and that is what I use to stop the itching..

I like Lubriderm lotion for extra dry skin. Thick lotion, but seems to do the trick.

It sounds more like excema then dry skin to me. It wouldn't hurt to try some over the counter allergy meds for a couple weeks and see if that helps your skin.

I really like the Body Shop's Body Butter. I get dry skin in the winter, and applying that stuff right after I'm out of the shower really helps. I use the coconut one. Eucerin's also really good, and it's cheaper.

I sort of understand how dry it is in Arizona. I visited there for a week in November a couple of years ago and it felt like the moisture was evaporating out of my skin! It was very noticeable to me, and I don't live in a humid area. I drank a lot more water when I was in AZ than I usually do at home, and that helped a lot.

Oh, and in the winter we run a humidifier. Do you use one?

I use Curel all the time...it work's wonders and isn't greasy at all. (I don't like the Eucerin because it never feels like it's absorbed) DD's have excema something wicked in the winter and I use this all the time for them too...it's the only one I can use on DD5's skin (that she can scratch raw sometimes)that doesn't sting when I put it on.

I do too, but it's about $15 each. Walmart makes a knock-off (container even looks the same) for $3 that I like even better.

I went to an Arbonne party and bought some lotion. Oh wow! It really does make a huge difference. I've had a spot on the heel of my hand that has been so dry it is peeling. I've tried all sorts of lotions from the store and none of them worked. This Arbonne lotion is finally clearing it up. It is great!

I too have VERY dry skin and I have never found anything better than Keri. I've tried several of the ones mentioned here and they didn't come close. My kids pediatrician recommended it to me for my son when he was lil and I've had no need to try any brand since.

My son has bad eczema that gets really itchy. I've tried so many different creams and lotions, and the one thing that works is Aquafor. It's works quickly and clears up his red patches almost overnight. I also use Dove Sensitive Skin soap, because anything with dyes or perfumes seem to aggravate his problem.
