OK. I emailed this to Super 8 over a week ago and haven't heard back. We're thinking about staying there in November (well, it's between them and Anaheim Plaza, I was leaning towards Anaheim Plaza, but DH wants to go with the cheaper of the two). My question is regarding the fridge/microwave. Their website says those are available, but doesn't list a price for them. My husband has medication that has to stay refrigerated, so having one is kinda a dealbreaker for me (but the cost of having one at Super 8 could make Anaheim Plaza a contender pricewise).

Also, does anybody have opinions on either hotel that would push one above the other (and talk DH out of Super 8 or me out of Anaheim Plaza)?

Thanks!

Edit: How about Quality Inn & Suites on Manchester?

We've stayed at the Super 8 twice and both times requested a fridge. I think it was maybe $10 extra/night? I'm not 100% sure since my MIL was paying but that sounds about right.

We needed a fridge because DS is unable to eat "regular" food and so I have to bring all his own food. We reserved the fridge by calling the hotel but when we got there they said we didn't have a fridge because someone else needed it for medicine. I can totally understand why someone else needed it but it would have been nice to have known ahead of time that our fridge wasn't actually reserved for us like we thought. I could have brought different food to accomodate DS. So we had to use our cooler and keep filling it with ice.

The next time we stayed there we again reserved a fridge (one for each of the 2 rooms our family was using) and we had 2 fridges with no problems. Both of our stays were during spring break so it was the same time of year for both visits.

So i guess i would be cautious about if they will actually reserve your fridge for you but I guess you can feel better about the fact that apparently they will take away someone else's fridge if one is needed for medicine, lol. But i think you should call instead of waiting for an e-mail.

I don't know anything about the microwave.

The good things about the Super 8 are the price, it's within walking distance (just barely), it's next to the gardenwalk, free parking (and they let us stay the day we checked out), free breakfast, seemed fairly clean (but not the same cleanliness feeling that say a hyatt would have).

The bad things were some cracks/holes in the walls, ceilings, breakfast is pretty basic and they have a "guard" to check what room you're in and make sure you don't get too much milk, the staff wasn't friendly the first year we went but were better the second year.

We stayed there last March. It cost $8 per day to reserve a fridge and microwave. We love the Garden Walk so many great stores and great deals. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is right next door. So yummy! The 2 queen rooms are a lot bigger than a room with just a king bed. Ventilation in the bathrooms are non exsistant and the bathrooms are very small. Our room was kept clean and we always felt safe walking to Disney from the hotel. If you don't want to walk you can ride ART, we just went to one of the hotels next door and purchased the tickets there since Super 8 doesn't offer the ART tix.
Breakfast is basic pastries, coffee, milk or juice we skipped it most days and just ate at the park. Pool and hot tub were clean as well. Hope this helps.:bride:

We reserved the Quality Inn on Manchester and all the rooms have fridges without an extra fee. It looks like it is less of a walk to the parks than the Super 8? I've always stayed out of walking distance so this is a new one for me. :)

Anaheim Plaza is where my family of 6 like to stay. Because they are an older hotel they don't skimp on space. Plenty of room for the whole family and their stuff!!! Fridge and microwave included in price. They are clean and very hospitable not to mention really close to the parks.

I'm glad to hear you like them! I had emailed them as well (crickets)...But since you've stayed there, maybe you can answer my question. Elevators, do they have them? I could disassemble DH's scooter and carry it piece-by-piece upstairs each night if I had to, but I would really rather not...So, elevators (or a guarantee of a first-floor room) are also a dealbreaker for me.

They do have Elevators and stairs but when you make a reservation just ask for a first floor room. We have strollers so we asked for a first floor room and got it no problem. The rooms are very roomy and both times I stayed there I have had 2 friges, one a little bigger then the other, and a microwave at no extra cost. If we don't stay at a Timeshare then we stay at the Anaheim Plaza. Nice easy walk as well.

Anaheim plaza is only two floors and in the back (where you would park) they have ramps that lead up to the top floor as well as the stairs. The kids loved the ramp!!!
Hope that helps and have a magical trip!!

Hmm...that one hadn't been on my radar. Looks like its prices fall between the two (especially after resort and parking fees), but perhaps the breakfast is better (reviews on Travelocity mentioned waffles, hard-boiled eggs and yogurt). According to the yellow/green walking distance map, the QI should be about as close as Anaheim Plaza. It seems to get mixed reviews here, but so do the other two I'm looking at...Anybody know if Quality Inn has elevators, or if they have 2 queen, non-smoking rooms on the first floor?

I have stayed at Quality Inn twice. The 1st time I got a low rate from my Credit Card. The secone time I got a rock bottom rate from Last Minute Travel (I knew it was the QI before I booked). I believe the QI is a longer walk that the Anaheim Plaza, Anaheim Plaza and HoJo are reported to be about the same distance and QI is a little farther than HoJo. I can walk from QI to the DL security check in about 10 minutes in the morning but it takes me about 15-20 minutes at night when I am dragging butt.

I don't think the QI has rooms with 2 queens though. I know they have doubles... which I would have an issue sharing or rooms with 1 queen, or Queen and bunk beds or sofa bed (but those I think cost more and only can be reserved through their site). They DO NOT have elevators. The rooms with a single queen I believe are on the 1st floor as I have gotten them twice. I had a room with 2 doubles on the second floor.

The rooms do have a fridge/micro...

Which walking map are you guys looking at? I'm really happy to hear this because I read that their is a wall all around the Quality Inn that makes it tough to walk. But I figured it couldn't be that tough to walk around.

I have a theory on the mixed review for the Quality Inn. I think it is that people don't read about the resort fee and then flip out when they have to pay it and leave negative reviews. I have spoken to several people that have stayed here and they really like the place for a cheap option.

Fingers crossed! :)

Here is the map I was referring to: http://www.accommodationsneardisney.com/Disneyland/default.asp

Quality Inn and Anaheim Plaza are in green, while Super 8 is in yellow.

Resort fees always confuse me. If I'm required to pay it, why not be upfront and put it in the price?

We've stayed at the Super 8 the last 3 times we've gone simply b/c it's cheap. It's cheap and clean. No frills. We have 2 kids and a double stroller and the walk is not bad at all! Seriously - like 10min tops?

The fridge was an extra $5/night. We always take food/water, so a fridge is essential. We haven't needed a micro since my youngest took a bottle, so I can't comment on the cost of that.

We always get a floor level room too. And getting 2 Queen Beds for $50 a night - well to me, you can't beat that.

I (gasp) called them (I know, I know, I do some crazy things sometimes) and they said that they do have non-smoking rooms with 2 doubles on the first floor. We just need to request that with the reservation. So, I booked it with the Entertainment rate - $215 for 4 nights + $24 for "resort fee" and parking. Not too bad...

Can't wait to hear what you think of the place!!
