We went on a 3 night Dream cruise last year. There were never any toppings for sundaes. Only the ice cream. My kids kepts asking because the spots were there for toppings but none were ever put out. The other night my son asked me about it. We have a Fantasy cruise scheduled for April. Any chance of sundaes or still just ice cream only?

Thanks!

I don't think there's ever been toppings on either the Dream or Fantasy. They must have changed their minds. The signs even still say there are toppings...they should probably change that!!

On the Fantasy they had some. But you had to ask for them, they don't put them out for the taking. Apparently there was some problem with having them out for self-service.

They only had cones on the Fantasy. If you watch some kids around the machines, you will know why they don't put the toppings out.

If you want a cup instead of a cone, go to the drink station and grab a paper cup there!! :thumbsup2

Never thought to ask the attendant behind the ice cream counter for toppings! We did ask for ice cream cups though and they would happily oblige.

Cups can also have soda in them and then ice cream. Made a few ice cream sodas on the Fantasy this past summer.

The sign also says "so many flavors, it's scary." Four does not count to me as scary.

We went through an exercise to see if you could make a banana split on the Fantasy. We didn't do it, just to see if we could find the ingredients.

Ice cream - from the self serve station.

Bananas - from Cabanas

Strawberry sauce - from Cabanas breakfast with the waffles

Whipped Cream - Cabanas with the waffles.

Pineapple - not a sauce, but you could get pineapple at Cabanas.

cherry - I'm sure you could ask at a bar.

The hardest thing to find was the chocolate sauce. There is the place next to the ice cream machine where you can get smoothies - one of the choices was chocolate sauce. We didn't go as far as to ask if we could borrow it. (This was a theoretical discussion.)

So, the answer is yes, you can do a banana split on the Fantasy.

We did grab two cookies from the fast food station and make an ice cream sandwich. The ice cream was a bit soft, but that worked. Not theory, but actual practice!

Yes, but they do not have the cups there like on the Magic/Wonder where the handles are higher up and not as easily accessible to young kids. With
just having cones they are not making toppings something that would be readily added to a cone. We use to pack a box of cones for the kids. Nice to not have to do that now. We have made ice cream soada since our first cruise. Possible they want to discourage the toppings due to the fact that the station is more in the open and not in a corner, so could affect the walkway.

We've done a lot of Magic cruising, and I've never seen a MESS like the kids were making on the Fantasy. on the Magic, they put out a couple containers of sauces--usually chocolate and butterscotch--and it never seems to turn into a disaster area. On the Fantasy I just looked at the mess and decided I didn't need ice cream THAT badly. The CM just couldn't keep up with the situation.

Note--this could have improved; my last Fantasy experience was last spring

If I recall correctly, years ago, on the Magic and Wonder, they had M&M type topings, as well as other items. At that time, people were going and getting cups full of the candies to take to the movie theater, room, etc..... so since there was "over use" of these items, they removed them.
I'm sure that Chocolate or other flavor syrup could cause quite a mess if left to little ones to use, hence the removal of those items. :(

I think you are right about the candies, etc....I seem to remember these as well. Celebrity still has them at their ice cream location! Yummy.

I remember those candies and what you said is exactly right. I remember going to the movie one afternoon and a dad brought all his kids with cups from the ice cream station with no ice cream but filled with candies.

My husband and I get the larger paper cup in the morning at the breakfast buffet. We put a few nuts it in and save it until night time and go fill them with ice cream. Yummy. I prefer this over many of the dessert offerings at dinner.

Me too! Just because a 4 yo CAN reach the lever of the ice cream or the spoon on the buffet doesn't mean that they SHOULD be allowed to touch them and serve themselves -- especially considering what else they are doing with that hand while waiting in line to get to it. On the MV there were open straws at the drink stations. I told the kids to use the cups/lids for coffee so they didn't need to use a straw. I mentioned it to an officer who was roaming the pool deck one day talking to guests. He wasn't aware of that being done, and when he saw it for himself he promised me it would be changed ASAP. That afternoon there were wrapped straws at the drink stations.

They took away the toppings because they were afraid that this was another way to pass germs from one guest to another -- and not just the kids. We sat near the ice cream station one afternoon and decided we never needed to use any toppings they had ever again on any ship after watching several adults, especially one man (much older, definately should have known better). He used the butterscotch topping and when he was finished and lifted the bottle, some syrup ran down the cap, bottle and his hand. He proceeded to clean up all three by licking up the excess syrup and then replacing the bottle on the counter like nothing was amiss. (Yes, we did get that bottle -- wrapped in a wipe because I wasn't touching it -- to a cast member; didn't see toppings out the rest of that cruise!)

I know on the Fantasy a couple of months ago, there was a cast member in the area to keep it much cleaner and to help the children so they weren't serving themselves as much (but one cast member can't control all the machines). So it's probably better than it was but short of not letting any serve themselves, I don't know if it will ever be a great set-up.
