Summer Discount Public - Monday?

If I book a hotel or hotel and tickets through Orbitz can I add a dining plan later?

I tried to modify my existing reservation at CBR in July, and nothing was available. We are a party of 5, so somewhat limited in where we can stay. Nothing at POR or WL, and AOA was $900 more expensive. It's frustrating that I was on the phone exactly at 6am CST, and still nothing available. It seems like very few rooms were available at the mods for this promotion.

There was pretty limited availability across the board even when it was restricted to the Visa discount. We're at the Wilderness Lodge and there was only 1 view available with the Visa discount and as of this morning, nothing but club level. This tells me they're booked pretty solid to limit the discounts this much- it's been a long time since I've seen such limited availability. I checked Orbitz, and the WL is not included at all.

I'm trying to change to a split stay - still on hold with Disney (45 min thusfar) as my TA hasn't gotten back to me yet. Looks like the way Orbitz would have worked for me would have been to book my stay 6/11-6/16 with the extra 15% and then book the 6/16-6/21 on Orbitz later with the extra 15% once the summer code came out. Well, I guess I know now for next time. Still frustrating as I feel like the deal I got with my current TA doesn't do much; the magical agency saves me about $400 without changing my reservation into a split stay and orbitz might have saved me $600 by booking the split stay. Probably won't be able to make a continuing reservation with my current room as none of those offers are available.

Contemplating spending a little more and upgrading to AKL for the second half of the stay (first half is at POR), and it's only about $30 more a night to go to AKL.

Well, I tried calling, but I can't wait on hold that long so had to hang up. Work is getting in the way! I checked on Orbitz for my dates, June 29-July7 and used the code Takeabreak. I got a quote of $1771.84 for a standard room at POR. I then went on Undercovertourist to get a quote for 8 day park hoppers, which is what we currently have on our existing reservation and I am only seeing a savings of $40 total. Not sure that is worth rebooking everything! This is so frustrating. Am I doing something wrong on Orbitz? Seems I am reading others are seeing a bit more savings when they tried Orbitz. I tried for a royal room, standard view, on Orbitz as well and that will cost me $90 more than my current reservation. I am really surprised by the lack of availability for standard rooms with this discount. I was hoping that I would have more luck today than I did when I called for the early Visa promotion the other day. My friend says to "Let it Go"!!! I am still determined. Any more suggestions here?

Update: figured out how much our original booking was, itemized. We had POR until 6/16 @ 191.71/night and 6/16-6/20 at 239.64/night (with tax) Our tickets are also about $100 cheaper than they would have been had we purchased them now, plus we get 1 day free.

I thought I could save money by switching or upgrading, but totally forgot about taxes added to the discount rate. Boo. I thought that upgrading to a royal room would save me $188, but alas it would cost me $15 extra. The only way to save is to switch to CSR standard room. :(

Are you putting in only 2 adults and leaving off any kids? If not that what is wrong. You need to only have 2 people then call Orbitz to have Disney add the other members of he group. Orbitz charges for more then 2 but Disney doesn't.

If you book though Orbitz can you still book dining @ 180 days and fast passes @ 60 days?

Thanks so much to everyone here who helped convince me to try Orbitz. I have only ever booked through Disney so was VERY hesitant. It could not have been easier!! I layered the Disney discount with Orbit 15%. I then called Orbitz and a very sweet and helpful man added my kids and gave me the code to link to MDE. He even reminded me not to forget to do that. I then booked my tickets through Undercover Tourist and saved $44. All in all 10 nights POP standard room with 6 day base adult tickets came out to $2550. When I tried to book the exact same package today on the Disney website with their new summer specials I was quoted $2805. We are Canadian and pay about a 30% exchange rate so my savings with exchange is about $330 Can.

Absolutely, as long as you are staying on Disney property it does not matter with who you booked your hotel and tickets. You will be given a hotel code from Orbitz to put into your MDE account and voila, you are now an on site guest with all the benefits. You cannot purchase the dining plan but regular adrs can be made by anyone.

So, if we have 3 adults in our party, I should only book for 2 with Orbitz and then call Disney and add the other adult? Or, does this only work with adding kids?

Thanks.

To be 100% honest I'm not positive. But I would think it applies to adults too. Does does Disney charge extra for adults? If not then yes it applies to adults too.

ETA - found the old thread about booking with Orbitz (can't figure out how to post the link on my phone) and it looks like it does apply to adults.

You can book with Orbitz add the 3rd person link to Disney THEN cancel your existing reservation.

Thank you. Since we don't have an existing reservation that part doesn't apply to us, would it?

I would book for 2 adults through Orbitz, then call Disney and add 3rd adult to our reservation we booked through Orbitz and we are done? This would be cheaper than booking 3 adults with Orbitz?

You need to call Orbitz and they will all Disney and add the 3rd person. Since Orbitzs owns the reservation they need to call Disney.

Make sure you link the reservation to MDE and change the address for magic bands.

Nope if you don't have a reservation yet you don't need to cancel.

Thank you very much. I hope Orbitz doesn't try and add the cost of the 3rd person when I call them back. Have you heard of them trying to do this?

No I haven't heard of that. But I did have to call a 2nd time because the first person didn't understand what I was asking. So just hang up and call back if the person seems clueless. I had no issues (so far). Trip is in 5 weeks.

Thank you so much for your help and patience. I really do appreciate it. Just running some quick numbers, this could save my family around $300 for a week vacation at a moderate resort with park hopper tickets.

No problem! Make sure to use the Orbitz code TAKEABREAK for an extra 15% off!

Is anyone else shocked how many rooms at the moderates are already sold out? I'm off this week so I have been watching so I will be ready in the Fall. I see that Orbitz still have lots of rooms, so is this the direction disney is going to in the future where we have to go thru orbitz? JW about thoughts.
