Sorry guys.. I'm afraid I have a pretty silly question for you all. Hubby and I and 7yr old daughter heading for 2wks beginning of July. Wondering what footwear we should have? I hate feet to the best of times so I apologise in advance!!!

Just, would you recommend 'worn in' trainers (which might be too warm)? Or sandal types shoes?

Many apologies for such a daft question but I'm just one of those people who lie in bed at night thinking too much!! :lmao:

Many thanks

When we go next year, we will be taking well worn Crocs and trainers. I don't care what my feet look like, so long as they don't hurt! :)

Not a stupid question at all - the wrong shoes could totally ruin your holiday :scared1:

I will be going with crocs, well worn trainers and a large quantity of plasters just in case! Water shoes are also a must for discovery cove - and even the water parks depending on how hot the floor is.

Whatever you do don't take "new" shoes that might give you blisters...

I swear by the 1000 mile trail socks, realy comfy with trainers and the wash ot and dry pretty much overnight.

I've also heard that you can buy 'moleskin' (I think) plasters over there if you get blisters.

Not silly at all, what one person finds comfortable and other person might not....I would sugest that anything you have should be well broken in....I will be taking trainers and a pair of Moshulu sandles

On our last trip my feet caused me no end of trouble and I didn't fing crocs comfortable....learn't my lesson the hard way

Thanks everyone. Have heard 'crocs' def the best. Hubby has great sandally shoes so not gonna worry bout him! Just me and wee woman. Saying that haven't seen many places that do adult size crocs unless on hols in warm climates!xx

Thanks everyone for being so kind to reply to my message. New to the site and am overwelmed at how kind, friendly and helpful everyone is!!

Just as a matter of interest... On a general big day out.. how far do you reckon you walk? Still trying to work out best foot wear for daughter!!x

Thanks again guys.

Fiona..xx

I just got a pair similar to these:

(sorry I can't post links yet, so just copy and paste)

from Bass shoes.

I really like them so far. They feel like sneakers, but have mesh ventilation and drainage holes in the bottom. Much cooler than sneakers. I find I get blisters fairly easily in a sandal and these seem to have solved that problem.

Thanks so much Soxfan et all!! Very kind replies. Will have a hunt on internet. How far do you walk on an average day?? Dear Daughter wanting to know!!

I think the best answer to that question is you walk until you've done everything you want to or your feet give up the fight!

It really depends what park you are at - I found Busch Gardens the most tiring as it is HUGE. There were bits of it we didn't even see!

I've converted to fitflops over the last 6 months. I got a pair of boots in November, and they have barely been off my feet since, I find them that comfortable.

I have a pair of fitflop sandals that I have started wearing with the nice weather, and they are so comfy that I would not hesitate to wear them round the theme parks.

I went to Berlin in March, and took my worn in trainers, and wished I had taken my fitflops, my feet and legs were killing me after walking around all day.

Must warn though that fitflops are on the expensive side.

Trainers and croc capri flip flops for me. You will probably walk for miles!! Whatever you decide on make sure that they are well worn in - nothing worse than sore feet on holiday!

as someone noted, whatever you choose, make sure they're broken in and comfortable for YOU!!
what's comfortable for one person isn't necessarily for another..

for example, DD once wore crocs through the day of a lot of walking and the next day couldn't walk due to excruciating foot pain..
when she went to the orthopedist, he told he she can't wear crocs..
that for her kind of feet, crocs do not provide sufficient support...

so she never wears crocs and that pain has never come back..

personally, i find crocs terribly uncomfortable...
on the other hand, DS totally loves his crocs and wears them all the time..

i love my birkenstock sandals and that's what i wear at WDW....
DH also wears birkenstock sandals..
and DD wears either a good pair of running shoes or her source sandals...

anything is ok if it's good for you....and broken in...

Comfiest things I've ever worn are Pavers Sandals. Special springy footbed and neoprene straps so don't rub even if they get wet.:) They have a website and if you have Sky they have their own channel.

My husband swears by running shoes with the gel soles and the kids all wear well worn skate shoes.

after reading so many comments on here about fitflops I bought myself a pair and have to say they are very comfortable. I've usually worn Birkinstocks and Ecco sandals and haven't yet had a blister. The key is to definitely make sure the shoes are well worn. We're all wearing new sandals now ready for our August trip.

Another vote here for crocs (Mary Jane style) and fitflops!!
I switched to fitflops and was concerned as I don't usually get on with things that go between your toes, but I hardly took these off last trip, so comfy and energise your legs so you don't get that lead like feeling after 11 + hours walking round parks!
if you want something more secure, fitflop now do a back strap version for extra shoe security, I might treat myself for our next trip :)

This has to be a personal choice as everyone is different, Nikki wears various Fitflops and I find that by far the comfiest thing for me is Nike Air Rifts:

Never had problems with my feet with them and are perfect for me in the parks. Got a few pairs that I take, not everyones cup of tea obviously

Birkenstocks for me with a pair of trainers in reserve although they are rarely worn as i can't stand my feet getting hot. DW wears comfy sandals of no particular brand and along with DD and DS - generic flip flops:scared1: which I couldn't think of myself. And yet our feet problems have been rare so it seems to prove that everyone will have different requirements.
