We are thinking of staying at the GF on our next trip in the Lodge concierge (Sugar Loaf). I want to know all about it! Who had a really good experience there?

We usually stay at the Poly concierge. Anyone stayed at both and have an opinion on which is better? :confused3

Sugar Loaf at the GF is considered "light" concierge. There are a few noticeable differences in this level of service. First, there is no alcohol served in the lodge building, so no wine/beer or cordials. The foodservice is basically the same as that of the main building, but it does end earlier and there is no extensive late night dessert offering.

A few of the less noticeable differences are the view and lounge setup. Views are limited to garden or marina. You might be able to see the fireworks from a marina view room, but not the castle. A nice plus though if you are travelling with 4 or less people in your group, is that you can request a larger lodge tower room. These come with a small seating area and a second tv. All have garden views. There's no additional charge for this room at the lodge concierge level and it can't be guaranteed, you can request this style though. The lounge is located on the lobby floor of the building. It has a very cozy setup and reminds me of a bed & breakfast, with couches and coffee tables, a few tables and chairs and no television. The concierge staff have their desks located here also.

When are you planning on trying it?

I believe the plan is that Sugar Loaf will be upgrading to full consierge fairly soon and that through to Jan 1st it will be at the previous $$ rate.

Once this is officially announced, I think there will be a lot of interest in the Sugar Loaf full consierge service (at lower cost). By booking now you should get a good choice of dates before the crush. If it doesn't come about and the slighter lower level of food and bev services bother your group you always have the option of moving to a different resort or room type.

From what I can gather the consierge at GF is something special and even if the Sugar Loaf service at that time is not 100% of the RP food+bev services I'm certain you are going to find it is extremely well run.

We've stayed in Sugar Loaf twice and in Polynesian concierge a number of times. We've had great stays at both.

Preplanning is the same good service although I actually make most or all of our ADRs. We've also had good service from both staffs at the resorts. Sugar Loaf is full service in those respects and in fact I don't believe WDW refers to SL as light at all. That was some terminology that found a life on this board a way back. I always imagine the concierge staff at SL cringing at that description! ;) Not picking on you though, Tammi. :grouphug:

Breakfast is very similar. The only difference I can remember is in some of the pastries.

Afternoon tea is different as are the evening appetizers. SL offers a little more at tea time....scones, sometimes brownies, etc.. Hawaii has "heartier" appetizers at 5:00 pm. And as Tammi pointed out, SL doesn't have extensive dessert offerings....in fact no dessert service at all when we were there but that may have changed. And again, no wine, beer or cordials.

We haven't stayed in SL for two years but way back then there was no pop out for children but you could request it. Lemonade and ice tea are available all afternoon and coffee and tea into the evening...until 10pm as I recall.

It will be interesting if the changes do occur that Jana mentions.

Have fun!

You are absolutely right. I've never seen WDW use the terminology "light". They always refer to Sugar Loaf as lodge concierge. It's a little difficult to describe the 2 levels of service though. They are nearly identical in most aspects, with only a few tangible differences and then the rest is just a certain feel. We too had a nice stay there and enjoyed the coziness.
