I recently got glasses because I cannot see as clearly far away. I don't need or wear the glasses for close up work, like being on the pc. (my rx is pretty mild, it's not a severe problem) Just for driving, watching tv etc Today, I have been experiencing something really strange, hoping maybe others can relate.

I was reading the DIS and suddenly my vision went from sharp to blurred. It was so sudden, I thought it was my pc so I called my DH over and he said it looked clear to him. Now it seems to come and go. It's not like I look away and then it is different, it is happening while I am looking at something. Freaky wierd.

I am not overly tired, don't have a head ache, feeling fine.

When I put my glasses on to see if it made a difference, it did for a while...then it started to happen again, even with the glasses. Can vision change that quickly...right in front of your eyes?

Any thoughts welcome...thanks in advance
**Edited to add, I haven't been reading alot today, just off and on..

I don't wear glasses (yet); however, I had this happen when I was severely hypothyroid. The lens inside your eye cannot focus properly, so whenever I looked at something I was constantly going in and out of focus.

There is some eye condition (due to the aging process) where the lens becomes brittle and starts having problems with focusing. That's what this sounds like. I would "watch" it for the next few days and if it doesn't change then I would call the eye doctor.

If you recently started having to wear glasses, your prescription may need to be changed often until your eyes stabilize. My mom got glasses at age 42 and it seems like in the beginning she was constantly having to get a new presscription.

Not to alarm you, but please call your doctor and let them know so you can be evaluated as soon as possible. Blurring vision is not to be taken lightly.

I sometimes have blurred vision related to my hypoglycemia. I agree with Tinks - it would be something I would get checked out.

Have your iron count checked too. My sister was experiencing this and she found out her iron count was way low and her dr said blurred vision is a sign of low iron.

This happens to me because of my MS, and also from migraine. Call your doctor and have him look at it. It could be a million things - maybe nothing serious and you need to put your mind at ease. :grouphug:

Check it out please. Can be a symptom of High Blood pressure, diabetes. dehydration and many other things.

Definitely GO SEE A DOCTOR!!

Not trying to scare you Pooh, but since this past Monday I have had to take my dd16 to an eye specialist due to an corneal ulcer forming in her left eye. It formed due to her not removing her contacts for 3 days:sad2:

They put her on Vitomox every 15 min the first day all day(NO SLEEP) because the infection was so bad. Her eye was buldging out, still sensitive to light, bloody red but not as painful as before.

At today's appt the dr said the swelling has gone down some, but their main concern is her vision. It was so bad we actually thought she was going to lose her eye. I thank GOD ALMIGHTY the infection didn't spread to the back of her eye. If that were the case her eyeball would have opened.

So take care and definitely get checked out

Wow, I never thought of anything other than it being related to recently getting glasses. The thing is, I only notice it when I am using the PC (reading something close). It doesn't happen all the time and it doesn't seem really bad or anything, just wierd. I am not having any physical problems or anything.

So, should I call my PCP or the opthamologist first? I am going to feel really stupid calling about something so wierd and dumb...

Thanks for the replies...

Go visit a doctor about it.

PAW, when I was having my focusing issues with the hypothyroidism (see post above)it was the same for me. I only noticed it if I was using the computer. I never noticed it if I was just looking around or talking with someone. I'm not sure if it happened with a book or newspaper.

I'm not one to run to the doctor and since you are only noticing this while using the computer, I wouldn't freak. But I would see how it goes for a few days and make notes on when you notice it. Then give your eye doctor a call if it hasn't gone away.

I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME NOW IT TAKES AWHILE IN BETWEEN CASES, BUT THEY SEEM TO COME IN BUNCHES THROUGH TIME. IT COMES ON SUDDENLY, THEN IS GONE WITHIN SECONDS. NEVERTHELESS, A SCAREY SITUATION! TWICE IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THAT WAS REAL SCAREY. MOST RECENTLY, IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS AT WORK, AND I HAD TO GRAB A COWORKERS ARM TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE. IT ONLY HAPPENS FOR MAYBE 30 SECONDS, BUT THAT IS A LONG TIME IN A SITUATION LIKE THIS ONE. IF YOU FIND ANYTHING OUT PLEASE LET ME KNOW BECAUSE PEOPLE THINK IM CRAZY! MAYBE I DID SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE IM NOT THE SAME PERSON AS ABOVE. JUST WANTED TO COMMENT

Wendy - when it happened to me it was diagnosed as a mini-stroke - not harmful in itself, but a precursor to a "big one." Please check it out ASAP.

I had something similar, but with a headache- thought I was having a stroke. For me, it was an ocular migraine. My vision changed so that it looked like I was looking through pieces of broken glass. Most ocular migraines involve this broken glass effect.

You do notice that this thread (PAW's original post) is well over a year old? I'm always amazed how someone can find these things to revive them?

This is not wierd or dumb. It may be something completely harmless or it could mean that you have migraine aura, high blood pressure, glucose intolerance, anemia or an eye problem as well as other things. It might just be that your prescription glasses is off a bit.I am a nurse and I can tell you that no doctor is going to think you are wierd calling about a symptom that needs to be checked out. It makes you a responsible patient since you know your body better than anyone else. Please call both your primary care and your eye doctor and have it checked out and let us know how you are doing! :wizard:

How did this turn out, PAW? I know it is over a year old, but hope all is well.

This is strange. I always login and click new posts and look for topics of interest. I did that today and this came up so I assumed it was a new issue.

Wow, all these old, old posts are being bumped up.....weird.
