I know the dining plan allows substitution of soup or salad for dessert..
My question is, how sad is the cup of soup or salad?
Is is a cup of their house soup or more like the kids menu chicken noodle?

For example, California Grill has on their menu, Beer and Cheese Soup -- if you substituted, is that the soup you would get?

You have to ask your server IF there is an option and what that is

some restaurants have a cheese plate on the dessert menu you can order that and have it served as your appetizer

Thank you... For some reason, I thought Disney had officially codified the salad/soup substitution but apparently not.

Substitution is entirely up to the restaurant, possibly the server. It's never been policy since the appetizer course was eliminated from the standard Dining Plan.

And before that change, it was never necessary.
