Subbing an Appetizer for an Entree?

I'm pretty sure at some point in our 9 days of free dining that I just won't feel like a big steak or chicken entree. Am I allowed to just order a salad or soup instead of entree or will I still need to pay OOP for the appetizer even tho I don't have an entree?

I believe that I have read that most TS restaurants will let you order an app as your meal. I think that my DD did that a few years ago at Kona. She wanted something that was an app as her meal.

Depending upon the dynamics of your traveling group you could consider paying out of pocket for an appetizer meal or two and then using the extra credits to eat at a signature meal one night.

For example, if it is you and your friend, boyfriend, husband etc., if you had an appetizer meal out of pocket twice, you could use 4 credits one night for a signature dinner.:goodvibes

Hope that made sense?

Good idea

Mama Melrose would not let us substitute the calamari appetizer for an adult's dinner this week, nor would Yak and Yeti let us substitute the wonton soup and white rice for an adult's entree.

And Chefs de France would not let an adult member of my party (vegetarian) have the $4 cheese puffed pastry from the kids menu as her dinner and told her she had to order wither the vegetarian lasagna or the macaroni and cheese.

Just my experience. Hope you have better luck.

The Chefs de France thing strikes me as really funny. I must be tired because it gave me quite a chuckle :goodvibes. We have two more credits booked than we will have on the DP. In the case you described, I would have paid the $4 OOP and saved that credit for my next meal. I understand its policy, and they have to stick to it, but that's just crazy :).

Unfortunately, the Chefs de France server didn't give me the option to pay out of pocket :confused3 (which I would have preferred). By the time we ate at Yak and Yeti a few days later, I got wise and asked, and was able to pay for the soup and rice without using a credit.

I hope you know I wasn't laughing at you. I was laughing at Disney.

I totally get it that you wouldn't realize how to work it at first. The DDP is extremely confusing the first time. I understand it well now, but it took a while :goodvibes.

Uh oh! I'll be on the DxDDP in Sept and had planned on ordering two appetizers for my meal. It seems strange that they'd rather I order just an appetizer and dessert and not use the entree portion of my meal credit.:confused3

I read on another post - think it was at Kona? That someone ordered the crab cake appetizer as their entree and they upper the size and added a size. Guess it depends on the restaurant.

You may not have any problem doing this, since you're entitled to three courses at each sit-down meal on the DxDDP - although, having said that, I can just see someone trying to order no 'meal' and just get three desserts :rotfl2: Anyway, ask: "I have the Deluxe Dining Plan and I'd like to order X as my appetizer, and then Y as my entree". Worst case, they say no.

True :)
On the other hand, while many Disney restaurants will both allow appetizer as entree and upsize it, many won't. Some will do both, some one or the other, some neither. Same advice as given to aubriee, above: Ask.

Thanks! I don't want my second appetizer upsized, I would just rather have two appetizers at Chef's de France, than an appetizer and entree.

We just came back from a week at the World and my son got the calamari appetizer at Ragland Road subbed for his entree. I asked and our accomodating waitperson obliged. Not sure if it was a bigger portion or not, though.

So we had success!
