Just curious, does Subaru negotiate their vehicle pricing? I'm just curious if anyone can share their experience!

Thanks!

Sure their dealers negotiate just like any other car. I got a Forester a few years ago. I was going to buy it from Costco but then another dealer offered to beat their price so I bought it from them.

I like the car and would buy one again. It works great in snow and ice. I love the all wheel drive as I can just keep going while everyone else is chaining up on the approaches to the mountain passes during snowstorms.

Yes, they will negotiate like any other dealer. Although they are pretty popular right now that they might not wiggle too much. We bought our Forester through Costco, which was painless. We bought right after the Tsunami hit Japan and parts were hard to come by and inventory was low so we felt the Costco deal was the best they were going to give us.

Advice is to work a deal on the tires. We had Yakihoma on when we bought and slid on the snow. One had a flat so all 4 had to be replaced and we were glad. We went with a much better tire and now no sliding. My sister bought an Outback last year and she had them upgrade the tires to start with.

My husband bought one of the new type Foresters this past spring. There was NO negotiation, but that was for 2 reasons - it was a new vehicle with high demand, and Subaru dealers are few and far between.

What we did instead was negotiate for other things, such as the dealer throwing in all-weather mats, cargo cover, a certain number of oil changes, etc. They may not negotiate on the price, but they should on the dealer options.

Also, it helps if you go in pre-approved for financing somewhere else. The dealer wants your financing through them, so you may be able to negotiate a better deal in that manner.

Good luck! My DH loves his Subaru, and has been enjoying it tremendously in this horrid, snowy winter. It is a good car.

Thanks everyone-I would have never thought to go through Costco, and the comments related to tires is a good one as well! We are in Wisconsin, also suffering through a winter that has had way too much snow.

I was sort of afraid that there might not be a lot of wiggle room, and that is what I was trying to figure out.

Not sure if I will break out of my Ford habit. But my Escape is in the 160,000 range, so it is time to start looking at something different. We've gotten very good at negotiating Ford vehicles throughout the years.

When my sister bought her Forester last summer it was to replace her Ford Escape. She loves the new things on the Forester.

Of course you can negotiate. And of course, regional demand is going to impact how much a dealer is going to discount. But since Subaru is offering 0% financing right now, I suspect demand isn't as high as they like, and they have a lot of unsold cars. A couple I know bought one, I don't know the exact amount they got off sticker price, but they implied it was a couple thousand.

Agree with this. 0% financing indicates excess inventory and the dealers are probably willing to negotiate prices to move product. Check Edmunds.com for a starting point on "real market price".

I just bought my spouse a forester a month ago. Contrary to what you might read or hear, dealers are negotiating. Believe you me, if you are willing to haggle, you can beat costco by a mile any day. Most people nowadays dont want to bother with haggling so they just pay the costco price.
