UUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I HATE THESE THINGS! and I hate them more when the clerk forgets to take them off!

I always double check as they are ringing things up- but DH picked up a couple of Lands End pullovers for gifts today, and he just came downstairs and said that 1 has the ink tag still on it. We went to a mall 1.5 hours north today, and tomorrow I was planning on going to a mall 2 hours south...hopefully with the reciept etc.. they will be able to pull the tag off. All price tags are still intact, and since its only going to be less than 24 hours later, they should do it I HOPE!

Last time this happened was the day before our trip to WDW, I bought a new pair of Capri's and some how it made it into the bag with the ink tag on...I was able to go to a local store, they pulled it off as good as they could, then I used needle nose clippers to finish it off, since there was no time to go back ot Sears before we left....

I sure hope its an easy deal tomorrow!

I'm sorry. :( I hope they are able to take care of it for you.

It should be easy if you have a receipt with you. Just don't do it yourself---it will be next to impossible to clean.

Hey, this happened to me too! I had my receipt also and the other mall removed them with no problems.

This happens to me all the time at Macy's. It doesn't matter which one I go to, the buzzer always beeps as I am leaving the store. We have quite a streak going on as to how many times it has happened.

This happend to me at Old Navy. Of course we couldn't find the reciept so they refused to remove the tag!!
I complained to the manager who said "sorry" store policy. So I bought another one walked out and walked back in 10 minutes later and said I wanted to return it. The manager refused untill I threatened to call the attorney general as they weren't honoring their return policy and she had no way to PROVE it wasn't the same one. On the way in I discovered their anti shoplifting system only worked on the way IN to the store..not OUT.. So I told her I was going to stand by her door and tell every teenager that walked in. Thought she was going to freak.

WELL I work in retail and I never say the P word you dont say policy you just do it
Im glad she was freaking it was 1 item she should have just done it

Why Alex you devious little bugger- I like the way you think!! ::yes:: ::yes::

I know I freaked out when I had mine on my jeans. I called the manager the next day, because I was leaving town on a cruise or something before the store opened and it was going to be some time before I would be able to get back to the store. I took down his name and everything. When I was able to go to the store, the sale's clerk was very nice and told me it happened all the time.

Well, it's a busy shopping weekend and we all make mistakes! The cashier probably wasn't stupid, just harried and busy!

With the recipt, it shouldn't be a problem for the other branch of the same store to remove the tag.

Yes, it has happened often.

One time I forgot the receipt. Imagine, asking a clerk to remove the tags without a receipt. Now I did pay by credit card and they were able to look up the purchase that way. (don't ask me how)
I had 2 items. One of the items was listed and one was not. She removed the tag for that one. She said I HAD TO COME BACK with the receipt to remove the other tag. So here I am walking out of the store with a tag on an item. I felt really wierd.
Luckily I did find the receipt at home.

This happen to me when I took my DN out shopping for something to wear to her Dad's wake/funeral last May. To say we were furious would be an understatement.

I got to my MIL house and DH was yelling that I should have made sure the store took off the security tag on DN's pants. MIL lives 45 minutes from our house and of course, I bought the pants at the mall by us. The receipt was at home. I called the store manager who told me we had two choices, either my neice wore them with the tag or we had to come back to the store. I told the manager we didn't have the receipt, the manager told me she would verify my purchase on my charge and get back to us. 15 minutes later, when she still didn't return my call, my DN & I headed up to the mall closest to my MIL's. At this point, we were late for her father's wake. We ran through the parking lot, into the store, up to a cashier and asked for a manager. The cashier called the manager and then asked what this was in regards to. I said we had spoke to the manager about the tag being on the pants still and needed her to authorize it being taken off. The cashier said "oh, that's all you need" took the pants, never questioned where they were purchased or anything, removed the tag and handed them to DN, who went into the dressing room, put them out and we proceeded to walk out of the store.

It just amazed me that it happens enough that they should make it a habit to automatically assume the tags are on each and every item. I could be more understanding if when this happened with my DN, it was a busy time of the day, but it wasn't. We were in the mall in May, on a weeknight around 6:30 in the evening. They were not busy. And, to top it off, that night we walked in and out of JC Penney at least 6 times and no one stopped us. Apparently, not all tags have sensors for the security system in them. Some just have the ink which will ruin an item.

That happened to me too, on a shirt I bought at our nearest JC Penney, 45 minutes' drive from our home. I didn't notice the ink tag was still on till the next day, and I was pretty frustrated about having to go back to get it removed.
Luckily I had the receipt.
I always check all my purchases before I leave the counter now.

I think if stores are going to refuse to remove a tag without a receipt they need to put some big warning signs at their checkout counters that say something like, "It's your responsibility to make sure all security devices are removed from your purchases before you leave the store."

This happened to me too, funeral related like cgcw.

I took a rare shopping break for the specific purpose of getting something to wear to my Mom's funeral once she passed. (It was a Hospice situation and we knew that time was short.) I bought an outfit at Filene's.

I was spending most of my time at her house and I was furious when I discovered that the tag was left on the jacket just as I was getting ready to go back to be with my Mom. She doesn't have a Filene's nearby.

Luckily, my DD was home and she was able to get the tag removed.

What's the sense of putting the stupid things on if they don't work?

The sensor tags are the same for every store. They will work with any machine. Now that I am an assistant manager, I don't ring up people on a regular basis anymore, but when I did, I have left the tags on a time or two, I apologize. If you bought it out of town or a a store you visit less often due to distance, I suggest calling a store nearby, not even the same chain and explaining the problem. More than likely they will be happy to help you out and remove the tag.

If it makes you feel any better retailer hate the tags as much as the customers.

Actually, no they are not. In our own store we have about 4 different types of sensor tags. We have three ways, or machines to remove them.
It's a pain, I know. But yeah, I would agree to make sure the tags are removed before you leave the counter. It is the cashier's responsibility, but so many are new, and with the busy season upon us, it doesn't hurt to double check. It will save you a trip back too.

Btw, with most charge cards, a lot of stores can find your receipt. That little bar code on the receipt tells the computers a lot. :)

This happened to my dh with a suit he bought at JC Penny for his Christmas party a few years ago. We didn't realize it until he went to put the suit on the night of the party. I had him wear the suit and we ran into Penney's and had them remove the tag after I called a manager and explained the situation and the fact that we didnt have the reciept for it. If they had questioned us I would have simply told them to look at their recordings of people coming into the store because they would have seen dh come in wearing the suit. Luckily we had no problem and the manager I had talked to was there and told the sales clerk to take off the tag for us.

This happened to us one time. DH had bought some jeans while in Orlando, and when I went to remove the price and several other tags, I found the "security tag". I had the receipt, but that particular store didn't have another store near us and we weren't going to drive 3.5 hours to get it removed. I figured that I would try to remove it... I pulled on it (it gave a little bit), twisted it many times and just when I was ready to use the wire cutter, the metal pin finally broke. The whole thing made me wonder how effective those "security tags" really are...

Weird, this happened to me at Penney's too. Only, it was my own darn fault. I didn't have my card because I never shop there, so the clerk was looking it up. I was being nice and taking the clothing off the hanger and folding it nicely in a pile with the price sticking out so she'd just have to scan it. So of course she didn't think to check for ink tags because I had already folded the clothes. Get home, pulling off tags, see this big ink tag at the back of the neck. Drat! The store I had bought it at was 40 mins away. The sweater was actually for my mom who did not try it on at the store. So, she tries it on and turns out it doesn't even fit and she wants to just return it. And guess who can't find the receipt? Penney's was really good about it though and took it back with no problem at a different store.

The older style sensors are not worth it anyway
you can pull them off with a penny
I have seen thieves do it and they pop off to easy
The newer sensors are harder but you can order sensors removers online and they just bring them to the store and use them there
