stupid hotel question

O.K...I am surfing thru and trying to find a sweet deal on a room for our offsite(no choice..way 2 broke to stay on site) hotel..and I just happened to check one of the "hotel policies" buttons..it said that a major credit card OR cash deposit may be reqiured for "incidentals"......I have ALWAYS just used my visa check card to get my rooms....but have only stayed in FLA once...is this common?if soo..i am screwed..or is it just a "warning" maybe to not mess up the rooms?HELP!!!!

It might be a Florida thing because they wanted $50 or a credit card imprint for incidentals on South Beach a couple of weeks ago. I guess alot of people simply leave and don't check out. This will pay for movie rentals, phone calls, etc....

I live in Florida & can tell you that *most* hotels take an inprint of your card for those *incidentals*.
I will also tell you that I *only* have a check card, & this has never been turned down for being a check card & not a "credit card"
Plus, as long as you pay the bill on the way out, they won't charge anything to the card.

Last year when we arrived from the uk they wanted a cc imprint which we didn't have we handed over $40 which we got back at end of vacation as room was ok and I think it may not just be a florida thing as when we went to spain this year it was the same deal

It is not a "Florida" thing. Most hotel chains do this with cash customers. I have traveled in 27 states and it is quite common.
